  • ive got the same mac and its well slow.gonna do this man. nice 1

  • u gonna smoke some dooby after ya done this?

  • Thanks BigCat for the great info! I just ordered a mid-2009 MacBook Pro and was planning to have dual OS after installing 8GB ram, but after hearing what u said about the freeze and slowdowns I've changed my mind about doing that

  • @raptor750r No I was referring to the dual boot or bootcamp. Unless you have a huge processor or you have tons of ram and at least a 1tb HD I would not run dual operating systems. I've played around with one that ran snow leopard and windows 7. It was sooo slow and it froze for like a min several times.

  • @tougejohnnydrift You can't run a 5300 & 6300 at the same time. One or the other they have to be the same speed. Both 5300, and if I recall correctly I think that MacBook I had would only run 5300. Good luck!

  • crucial do some crazy deals, just for anyone looking for a cheap ram upgrade

  • Also the PNY is 2gb DDR2 5300 (667MHz) and both Kingstons are 2gb DDR2 6400 (800MHz) but compatible with 5300 (667MHz)

  • Ok, I have the same MacBook same specs. 2.1ghz core 2 duo processor, 3gb ram, 250gb HD. I have 1gb Kingston ram in the left slot and 2gb Kingston in the right slot. When I take the 1gb out of the left and place a 2gb of kingston 6400ram that is compatible with 5300 my computer wont boot. If I place a 2gb PNY 5300 ram in the same slot my computer wont boot. Still wont boot if I switch them around too. Im running snow leopard 32bit... Whats the problem, why cant I achieve 4gb of ram?

  • @BigCat1165 i know its been over a year but have you figured out the problem? i just went through the same thing!

  • can i have a link please?

  • im buying a white macbook 2.1ghz 2gb ram

does anyone know if running windows in bootcamp will make the computer half as fast

my friend told me that it will cut preformance in half because ur running 2 computers

he might be retarded but im a tech noob

  • @thewaldoishere Running bootcamp won't slow down the computer because when you use bootcamp its ONLY running windows. If you use a program called "Parallels" this will slow things down because it runs WIndows in a seperate window as if its a program while in OSX. Only advantage to using parallels is that its quicker going from OS to OS. From my experience bootcamp is better because its already built in, free, faster and seems to have less problems (with drivers and such).

  • @thewaldoishere I could be wrong but what ive heard from friends that have used bootcamp is that you have to partition your harddrive so you will have less space on your macintosh side and you have to partition your memory which will slow down the performance. Ive never used bootcamp on my macs so i could be wrong

  • How do you make it so when you put your mouse over an icon in your dock it kinda zooms in? My 2010 iMac doesn't do that :/

  • @Fatal548 I'm not completely sure off the top of my head...i'm using a PC now (didnt have much of a choice at the time) but if i remember correctly you can click on the apple icon at the top left and open of dock prefernces or something like that. You should be able to find the setting that makes it magnify...for some reason this is turned off at first.

  • @raptor750r i actually already found out a bit ago but yes, it was as you said so thank you anyway :D

  • @Fatal548 open dock prefrences... damn noob lol

  • @xXalteranXx ... i already it out and lol?

    You're a Mac user.. you're a noob too lmao..

I've been on PC for my whole life but have to use a Mac for my work now as that's what the department runs on.

  • @Fatal548 Meh just trolling mate mac noob then >:D

  • @Fatal548

go to the place were u change u backgrounf.......i think system prefrences and click on dock and there is a option called magnify

  • @thewaldoishere Ok well thanks a lot mate but I've said like 3 times that I already figured this out :D

  • @Fatal548 go to system preferences, dock, then click magnification.

  • @KeviNguyeniSexy yeah ive already found out but thanks..

  • @Fatal548 Turn on Magnification on your dock settings.

  • @shaun2312 i found out 5 months ago lol..

  • look like flickering black line

  • i realize this video was posted quite a while ago, but i had a question on the price of the RAM chips. Did they cost a total of 95 dollars, or individually 95 each, adding to almost 200 dollars?

  • @joshnessmonster it was $95 total...got a GOOD deal, should be no problem finding a deal like that today. maybe try amazon if you cant in stores

  • @raptor750r today they cost just 20 dollars (11euro)

  • my computer specs say that it accepts ram with 333mhz. is it okay to install a bigger ram with bigger mhz? or does the mhz have to match 333?

  • @gcon92 I don't know a whole lot on that end but i'd advise you to not exceed the recommended Mhz. I'm pretty sure if you do then thats considered overclocking the CPU possibly? (someone correct me if i'm wrong). But trust me its not worth risking.

  • do you recommend getting this if I play alot of 3D games on my Mac?

  • wow that is a quick i have a macbook black its 1gb at the moment gonna get 4gb upgrade soon, as i use garage band alot and it crashes and lags badddd.. macs are really quick at opening things compared to PCs already with 4gb ram thats superfast..

  • Hi, I'm thinking of doing the same ram upgrade, I have an early 2006 white macbook 2.16 GHz, Apple says it is expandable to a maximum of 2GB RAM, I read it actually will use a maximum of 3.2GB RAM, everything sill working ok with your upgrade? Cheers.

  • this video made my christmas present a perfect choice!

I have the exact same model of your macbook and tomorrow (thanks to this vid) i'll go and purchase 4 GB of RAM! =)

I Love speed in macs so, this should do great!

Thanks a lot man! Good Job!

  • your ram and CPU is fine for games its just the GPU that lets you down. intels integrated graphics suck balls.

  • avoid CELERON at all costs, its horrible on battery life amongst other things. You might wanna look into higer end Sony's or Toshiba;s a decent gaming laptop should cost $800+.

  • no, prolly not even at the lowest settings.

where are you looking and what is your price range?

  • no not even close/

  • sorry just seen its 10.5.5

  • excellent video. parkinson hands but im worse hahaha. what version os came with this mac???

  • This guy needs to learn how to handle a camera !!

  • i know! who is this guy?? it looks like michael J. fox is the camera man

  • that was very helpful

    thanks in advance

  • im upgrading to 4gb tomorrow

    i have a 2.4ghz 2gb ram macbook unibody,

it good, but i have about 5 apps open at a time and it kinda laggy and slow,

so hopefully that will be good

and soon will be buying windows & when it comes out,

  • It sucks that it doesn't just come with one !gb ram in there =/

  • my gf has the exact same macbook im goin to upgrade her memory from 1gb to 2gb thats all she needs!

  • i have the 2.0ghz white macbook with 80gb hd and 4gb ram and boots up and shuts down faster than that!!!!! and not to mention i have 6.48gb of hd left.....

  • i think since he changed the hardware the macbook is trying to see what it is and stuff which is why it is taking longer

  • Can you actually put more than 4 GB Ram into a white MacBook?

I have a white MacBook with 2.4 Ghz and 250 GB and 4 GB Ram....

  • nooo only the 2.1, 2.2, 2.4ghz can go up to 4gb of ram

  • i have a macbook with 2.4 ghz. it already has 2gb ram. if i bought the 2gb would it be a 4gb ram. Also apple sells the 4gb for 300 dollars and other places sell for almost around 50 dollars. would there be a difference in quality

  • the once from apple is unbuffered.

why the hell do you need 4GB of ram. it doesnt make your computer any faster, only profession video/photo editors need more than 1GB. if you need it to play games, the biggest video card you can fit in a macbook without severely overheating is probably 512, but thats risky.

  • I have a totally same MacBook, and it starts up in about the same long time.

  • I got mine brand new for $35.00 on eBay. I have a similar setup to yours, except that I am running Windows Vista Ultimate. I have 4gb DDR2 RAM, 2109 mhz (2.1ghz) AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor, and an integrated Nvidia Video Card.

As you can tell, it is the video card holding me back, but when I upgrade it, I will also have to upgrade the power supply. Also, a faster processor wouldn't hurt.

  • can u notice the differnece once you upgrade?

  • there is a noticeable difference however not as much as i expected. but as i mention in the video it really does speed up the choppy graphics that you see when running many programs. i mean the CPU is only so fast, but the upgrade did help. but at the same time its also not worth the $300 that apple asks for so i stress spending time looking for the best deal. (i got mine at radioshack for $95)

  • Great video, this really helped!
