  • oh no ....u lot 10 Soldiers.........OMG........surrender as soon as possible you European pussies....

  • Kind of makes me wish we'dleft Belgium to the Nazis..... seeing as how they don't care when it's happening to someone else.

  • @chinary8 there were no nazi's in world war I...and you shouldn't say such things. It's rude. Every country has it's mistakes during history.

  • @Liveke uh... Belgium was also invaded in WW2, when there WERE Nazis.

  • @Liveke The Nazis weren't even as evil as propagandists the media makes them out to be. They were trying the Liberate themselves and Germany from the clutches of vile Jewish bankers and freemasons, just like the Occupy Wallstreet movement is against the Jewish bankers who control the Federal reserve and Wall Street Jews.

  • @jettrink60 YOU ARE RIGHT!

  • @jettrink60 no offense but last I can remember, Nazis were white. slavery during the 19th century in the U.S was conducted by white men. racial violence and discrimination in the U.S was conducted by white men. & colonialism was violent as well for what i can remember, and most countries with imperialist goals were European. go educate yourself. the human race is the only violent race i can think of.

  • @sjabouin "Nazis were white."

No they weren't all white. The SS Waffen and the Wehrmacht was FULL of Black, Arab, Asian and Indian National Socialists all of them perfectly willing to fight with the Germans againsts the Communists in Russia.

  • We all have the potential to do this, it's like original sin, it's in all of us, even if we weren't born when this happened we're still responsible because we are humans and this is human nature. Human nature to make this happen and human nature to let this happen.

  • @jettrink60 wow thats iggnorant. Are you trying to be racist or what? :(

  • why cant we have a peaceful world, its so sad when these things that make no sense occur.

  • what a ridiculous excuse "take over by the devil"... go fuck yourself, inhumane swine

  • Miss Albright! IF you disagreed with your instructions why didnt you reseign from your overpayed job to demonstrate how strongly you felt about pulling out?

  • The UN could have stopped this, with the help of the USA and other western nations...period! People listen to the words used by UN staff and politicians "all people who want to leave are out" BOLLOXS!!!" I hope koffee and such cant sleep at night for the blood on their hands! The french and Belgium politicians who sent in troops to evacuate westerners but leave others to die!!! You people are as guilty as the people commiting the genocide!!!!

  • @TheMixedUpMusicNut Fuck off you little twat. Ten Belgians paras gave their life protecting the Prime minister. If the Belgian public opinion wanted to withdraw saving the lifes of their soldiers then it's their goddamn well right. I Hear a Nigerian ambassador talking about responsibility in this clip. Why didn't Nigerians get in and solved this issue. Europe and the .West empathises too godamn much with the rest of the world, we shouldnt care so much and concentrate in protecting our own.

  • @TheMixedUpMusicNut well they saves their ppl at least, what did you do? watch hotel rwanda and call it a day? stfu armchair humanitarian

  • what kind of an army tells their men, "don't do shit" and let the killers capture you and kill you!!! honestly men, what kind of morons run the UN????

  • "Satan"-Black stupid monkeys! That's why white people made you slaves!

  • @Samyaza69 no mate you white people were lucky enough to exploit african yet we all know who the real devils are you fucking cracker

  • @ghanabanana he he, yes, and si good, and we don't give a fuck!

  • 9:44

    Yeah, sure... Satan...

  • i blame everyone

  • @9:45 No no no!, You dont get to hack innocent people up with a machete and then blame it all on some magical monster.

You did it and you're responsible. Don't make shit up just because you cant deal with the reality that you failed so miserably at being a good person.

  • @Cha4k exactly - this guy should be rotting in jail and everyone hutu who they can tie to these murders

  • Go to hell he said!God blesse Romeo!

  • albright was part of the government that killed 500 thousand iraqi children through sanctions. when asked if the end goal of getting saddam to go by killing as many iraqis as possible was worth it, she replied 'yes'. this woman is an evil child killer. her time will come.

  • @nem700 I agree with u she is an evil woman Karma's a B...H!

  • this is just like resident evil except instead of zombies u have extremist hutu with machetees

  • 5.05 WOW I never knew Carl Weathers ws a U.N troop.

  • Same story as Srebunica. the U.N are impotent cowards.

  • @patsyd80 The United Nations should be remained as the "Useless Nations". Seriously, NOTHING has changed since WW2 or Rwanda. It seems that atrocities like this are a modern occurence at least once every decade.

  • 800,000 killed, yet only 87,000 people viewed this special. Seems the world is still blind to this brutal time in history.

  • It is wrong to keep placing the blame on the United States, as convinient as it is. Unlike the UN, its stated objective is not to prevent war, even if that has been a consequence of its actions and is certainly an important consideration inherent in its foreign policy decisions. Its foreign political interests are almost identical in nature and basis to every sovreign nation on earth. If we ask why did America not intervene, it is only fair to ask - why didn't Sweden? or Portugal? or China?

  • @gilkra maybe because America always intervene but never whe is needed. If there was something from profit they will do that, but poor tutsi was not object of american interest. Strange how they like to be involved in every war in middle east.

  • @flakcannon1 You-Shut the fuck up, please. Not every war in the middle east is after profit, look at Afghanistan and Libya. There weren't injustices to the people of those countries going on there? My ass.

  • @Xerxes845 I see you are some kind of autistic creature :) Calm down boy. First Afghanistan must be attacket because of public opinion, 9/11 exct. Attack on Lybia is total injustice and when they remove Gadaffi it will be worst mess than now. Ok now if you are white South African go and continue to beg for food on the streets and if you are black South African continue to rob some old lady

  • @gilkra Although this is an old post, you raised a good point. But I'd also would like to point out that the U.S, Belgian, and French already had troops present in Rwanda in a rather large amount and yet did nothing to help. As you mentioned the following: Sweden, Portugal, and China didn't have troops present there and therefore couldn't respond fast enough even if they tried. And yet nations could have helped either way . . .

Hmmm, now you've given me something to ponder about . . .

  • I... hate... Madeleine Albright.

  • Weren't they rescuing US citizens, not whites. Maybe there were no black US citizens there? They were rescuing their own people.

If we, in the US, had a war within our country amongst our own people, would Rawandan armies come to the US and rescue Americans along with coming to rescue citizens of their country who are in the US at the time??? I doubt it.

  • You'd think that since the Belgians lost soldiers in Rwanda they would have a reason to intervene.

  • You better believe that if Rwanda had lots of oil the U.S. wouldn't sent in the troops !!

  • I won't call the belgians cowards. Had they not have all the UN red tape on Rules of Engagements they would have done a much better job.

  • The belgians are such cowards. They have elite paratroopers, with machine guns, hardware gear, and they were scared off by a bunch of thugs with machetes which simply have to kill a peanutfull of soldiers, and the belgians pull out.

Fucking cowards. I haven't heard a more pathetic story.

  • very pathetic story

  • so much more could have been done

  • Fuck the UN, Fuck Belgium, and Fuck King Leopold II

  • i swear by god that the un are cowards

  • i have never felt such an anger at my country in all my life

  • 7:05 Go to 7:05 -- I want that guy and I want him DEAD. DEAD and I mean a year-long miserably slow and horible death. And to anyone to raise a machete and kill a child (anyone for that matter but a child!) -- if you would be so kind as to share your name with me (and probable millions of others) and where I can find you we'll go..I'm 5'7" 170 -- a pretty small guy and I will be unarmed. You can use your machete if you want and if you kill me there will be someone else coming..bastard
  • Given Belgiums sordid bloodstain genocide ridden history in central Africa it REALLY lacked a leg to stand on when it wanted to run away like a little whimpering bitch

  • This must never be allowed to happen again like this. The U.N. must at least have established safe zones. This was done to before in iraq with the no fly zone. The U.N will never have respect if it doesn't flex its muscle doing times of crisises. They may not had the man power but they still have their helicopters and jets.

  • Madeline Albright thought it was worth it when 1000000 Iraqi children died under her watch due to sanctions, so fuck her-luciferian whore.

  • the soldiers (commanders) did the best they could considering what resources they had...shame on the UN.

  • Everyone blames the the USA, the Belgians and the UN. But the french actually supported the hutu extremists and yet people don't seem to blame them?

  • @VitreousCut Here's a better answer: take the French, the Belgians, the UN, and the US. And say fuck the West for not caring about a tiny country in Africa where people were being killed faster than the Jews at Auschwitz in 1944.

  • @HufflepuffTheGreat Why didn't Nigeria help they had an army, or why didn't China or India or Russia. Why blame just the west? Also how come everyone blames the West but they don't seem to focus on the Hutus, you know the people that actually did it.

  • @SuperBenzid Yes, but the Interhamwe eventually got what they deserved.

  • @HufflepuffTheGreat There were never any Jews ever killed in Auschwitz, it has been proven to be a hoax. The supposed "Death camps" that existed in Poland were built by the Soviets AFTER occupying Poland in 1945.

  • @LordMalice6d9 i hope they find a medicine for your mental disorder...i´m german and what you write is totally crazy ! we killed 6 million jew people and more than 20 million russian people...how can you say it doesn´t happen. people like you killed one million tutsi. or 6 million jews!

  • @VitreousCut this is so true ... and I laugh when we speak of this period ... this whole story has it influence in a colonialism.

  • even though the U.N. troops did pull out of Rwanda for their own safety, if they didn't, the Rwandan civil war would've been prolonged, and many more people would've died in the war

  • @puchy110 so...it's better that the genocidal maniacs got what they wanted simply because the Batutsi's who were 'the problem' died and the conflict was not "prolonged" as you say? I can't truly believe that you can make that argument logical to yourself....

  • @acceptanceisbliss u have to understand, Rwanda was in a state of civil war, the genoside was he government's extreme way of teaching the rebels a lesson, no matter how horrible it was, the UN troops were there to try to being a peaceful end to the war

  • @puchy110 i understand that it was NOT civil war until some decided to take extreme actions. I am not sure if u miss the implications of what u are saying or if u truly believe this. "Teach the rebels a lesson"? I am not even going to get into that, u can imagine why i have a problem with that statement. However, the UN, up to this point has only talked about human rights protection, it's about time they put their money where their mouth is! This was unacceptable. That is that!

  • @acceptanceisbliss Hutu extremists ran the country, and the Tutsis didn't want their people to be destroyed so they formed the Rwandan Patriotic Front, unless the UN staged a coup in the country, the genoside was inevetable

  • @puchy110 there's no such a thing as inevitable in history, and i know the history of the Rwandan genocide...all you seem to do is tell me the same thing over and over again. Sorry, but i don't see your point and i don't buy that UN intervention would have made anything worse than it was. We're going to disagree, so let's just leave it at that.

  • What a asshole. He blames his actions on the devil. Only religion can make a bullshit clam like that.

  • i hope you die of cancer albright, you selective scumbag

  • "everyone who wanted to leave had the chance to leave..." YEAH RIGHT.

  • it's not about someone in particular.. the whole world looked away from this situation. It was as if there was nothing going on there. unbelievable

  • Nobody did enough that's the whole point.

Blaming Belgians for bailing on, or not doing enough in, a conflict they should never have been involved with in the first place (UN policy doesn't allow peacekeepers of the ex-colonisers) is retarded. You can't really blame someone for not doing enough when your own country does NOTHING.

  • What did other African countries do to help???

  • Fuck I hate Clinton so much.

  • At least some lessons were learnt from this; the militias in sierra leone were stopped really after one short sharp shock by the British. I think one aggressive hit on the militias might have done the job.

The Americans will always serve their own economic interests whatever the human costs but the real villains here are the French - read about how they armed the Hutus and even created areas for the slaughter to take place.

  • @TheMixedUpMusicNut

You + those 10 people voted up for your post are the most stupid people . First of all, you need to think before posting, and if you cant do that, dont even post , just move on.

The Un got final orders to NOT engage, and 10 people died, why send more people when they cant even engage. Its different if the UN had some progress and few died, but when there is 0 progress plus not able to engage, why the hell want you send more people to a suicide missions.

  • people wondering why genocide allowed to happens again and a again. its the fucking NWO elites's will, its their way of population reduction. Bill clinton cant do anything until his masters lets him.

  • Sure, Belgians didn't do enough - but what kind of crap is it that America responded to their blah and "in retrospect, that wasn't the best thing to do"? If America wanted to stay in Rwanda they could've stayed. Why the hell would they pull out with the Belgians if they didn't want out on their own accord?

I think we need to stop shifting blame here. Stop blaming the Belgians, or the Americans, or the Rwandans or whoever - blame the whole freaking world for being so immensely stupid.

  • so belgians pulled out after 10 people died while 80000 died in rwanda?

  • Fuck the UN, they didn't help Rwanda because they didn't get anything of value. They evacuated their white people and left Rwanda to it;s own destruction. Isn't the Un supposed to preserve peace? What a fucking let down, 800,000 people, i'm not African but I cry everytime I think about it. Besides we all come from Africa anyway.

  • it was not clinton's fault, is the people that can't stomach a needless war. the best bet I assume was that they would sort it out themselves. what the heck happened to the neighboring countries of africa. UN is a joke. the whole security system is only good if the TV shows horrific pictures at the same time the government not being able to to hide it, they everyone becomes a hero. otherwise let them die cause our people are too busy watching tvs and worrying about their medicare.

  • @TheMixedUpMusicNut But they did more than anyone else.

You should watch shake hands with the devil.

On the effort of Belgians soldiers.

  • Clinton sure was quick to jump on board to save the white people in Yugoslavia but with black people in Africa it was simply addressed as a tribal problem that was different from the "real" genocide that was happening to the Muslims in Europe. What the hell were we (the Western countries) doing while this was happening and why are we sitting on our thumbs while it continues in Darfur?

  • the reason the peace keeping force failed was the UN would not let them to any thing

  • What gets me is that mass genoicide is going on in the world at this time and more people were concerned about Monica Lewinsky going down on Bill Clinton!!! Talk about priorities

  • Belgians are such bitches.

  • How rubbish and rot of that Belgian servicemen's folks to cry like dat!!! Did they even realize that a million Rwandans were goin thru????? European Rot forever!!!

  • @hunkyudi Africans stay away from Europe then!! That's ok with me. Because I get the impression they all love Europe!! We have to built walls to keep them out!!

  • @hunkyudi

They lost their family, dick, what do you expect them to do? Laugh?!

  • Look the tutsis did bad shit to the Hutus first and they wanted revenge for there country is that so bad ? its not there fault the tutsis did bad to them first, so they seek revenge...but yet there is no good or bad guys...Genocide shouldnt even be allowed why couldnt the world just be in peace and help eachother out for disasters like haiti and chile from earthquakes ??

  • You are a fucking moron!

You contradict yourself in your own comment

Your comment is ignorant and disgusting

  • Tutsis were placed in a position of power by the Belgian colonists simply because of the way they looked. When Rwanda gained independence in 1962, the Hutus took control and have been the majority ever since. What fucking evidence is there that the Tutsis, in there time of power ever mistreated the Hutus. Of course the Tutsis welcomed the benefits of better education, better jobs under Belgiums rule but it can never be said that the Tutsis deserved the genocide. You fucking bastard

  • Why didn't this Deleire guy save his troops? Why did he let them get sloughtered? They were under his command!

  • whadaya know April 15 is bad for rwandans too

  • wow, not only are you not funny you are intensly stupid too.

  • It's true and you know it! :P

  • The Belgians were smart, who the hell want's to die in some one elses war!?

  • If you'd want to occupy another person's land, you are morally and legally bound to fight another person's war!!!

  • It makes me angry that this could happen butt the Belgian soldiers were there without decent armory. Many manpower,... butt no tanks, artillery, helicopter, F16's,... Even a para-trooper can't win in that situation from the rage of many hundred thousand's of people. If the UN would have ordered to enforce peace, a better reaction could have been possible. How can you keep peace if there isn't peace? It was a giant mistake of Delare, Koffie Annan en the UN.

  • The limp wristed UN security forces are the antithesis of the brave marines who died in Somalia - when the marines learned that one of their choppers had been shot down, they went in there to bring those men out . They said no man left behind - on the other hand you have Delairre here walking past his Belgium troops who have been taken hostage and he doesn't even acknowlege this with the mongrel aggressors.

  • beautiful name valentina

  • And one more fundamental mistake is to fight for power, that is all the Hutu did. How can we say the interahamwe was wrong, if we do not oppose the spirit of the devil itself?

  • Comment removed

  • oh shut up with the religous bullshit. not everythings like in the movies. its not simply the forces of good fighting the forces of evil. war is often a complicated struggle for political power, there arent "goodies and baddies" grow up, fuck god and look at reality

  • okay but thats the mentality that stopped our country from being brave and going against the political system of checks and balances to say "This is just a matter of good and evil, lets fight them."

  • I mean what you said could have been muttered in the halls of washington to stop the emotional outpouring of allbright when really what was needed was more emotion and less removed statements like "war is often a complicated struggle for political power". THink about it.

  • This is what people mean when they say the devil is real. I hate liberal Americans who think they are smart just because they say they don't believe in the devil, because he is real, and we are at war with him, an it is worth fighting against the spirit of the devil.

  • how is a minority able to kill a majority? maybe that is how the minority was mad.

  • Comment removed

  • he will burn for it along with his cabinet

  • wow i thought bill clinton was a great president but my mistake. what a coward

  • clinton was good?

    *first wtc bombing

*al qaeda declares war on US in 1996

*3 usa embassies bombed at 10am in 3 diff african countries

    *uss cole bombed

    *saudi marine base bombed

*hundreds of iraq cease fire infractions with no penalty

i could go on and on...funny thing is clinton had 8 years to deal with al qaeda but he gets no blame for 9/11. how many attacks does it take before u kick the fat girl out of the oval office and start getting some work done?bush bashers fail to look at this.

  • @thatgoodlove

Yeah the president who raped women while biting their faces.

How could you ever think that scum was a good president? There has not been a moral president who had any respect for America or the constituion since Kennedy. They're all Wall-street puppets chosen for their complete lack of ethics.

  • @thatgoodlove why is it only bill clinton's responsibility? what about the other countries in the world and the international community as a whole? everyone turned a blind eye to this because they couldn't believe that something like this was happening and i'm sure had domestic problems at the time

  • @angelandbitch48 Because America and Americans never shut up about their god damn constitution and freedom and liberty and fairness for all.

But when it comes down to it America and its populace don't care about liberty, they don't care about freedom.

When the British Empire existed we had a thing called Pax Britannica, they'd step in where neccessary and usually did.

No such term has been applied to America, its a selfish nation full of selfish people.

  • @Jacada123

In many ways you are correct. As an American, I do see an attitude of disinterest in the rights and freedom. I also see a general thought of "Doesn't effect me, I don't live there!" amongst Americans.

However I think you fail to see the big picture. America is not the only world power. Every nation that knew what was going on should have done something, but they didn't. Regardless of the reasons, not interfering was a war crime in itself - allowing 800,000+ people to die.

  • @DrNick109g and thats why i dont only america but others. for example, france were helped by america n etc during WW2, they can help others + isreal they know how a genocide feels like. however, america has large influence around the world thats the difference between USA and say new zealand or fiji. USA has larger military, economy and diplomactic powers than most other nations.

  • @Jacada123 then why did ur "glorious" country not use Pax Bitannica dip shit

  • @leadfarmer13 Pax Britannica hasn't existed for near 100 years? I'm assuming you're American as you're nation is near the bottle of the league table when it comes to education standards.

  • @Jacada123 well then tell me how we "dumb" Americans defeated your "Smart" brits

  • @leadfarmer13 intelligence and power aren't directly correlated. and jacada, crast general statements like that are ignorant. Even if the whole world does view america as a nation of stupidity, naivety, obesity and over-religious idiots; that doesnt mean that its correct, or that any american you speak to fits tht description.

  • @leadfarmer13 The Americans played a minimal role in the war of independence. It was mostly the work of the French Imperial Navy that crushed the small garrison forces in the America's at the time. The loss of the wasteful and expensive Americas was a blessing for Britain as we soon branched out into places such as India which proved to be a far better way to expand our influence and power.

I seriously suggest you do some light reading around the subject.

  • @thatgoodlove not a coward... he just didn't give a fuck. No resources to annex = no U.S. troops.

  • @thatgoodlove All politicians are cowards..

  • @thatgoodlove Hello! Cheating on his wife and then lying about it to everyone... you didn't already know he was a coward?!

  • There is no point in insulting anybody

everybody had a part in this, everybody left these people to die, everyone had the resources to help but nobody did and know we have to live with the knowledge we didnt do anything.

  • FUCKIN HUUTU EXTREMISTS......FACE LIKE MONKEY....HEART LIKE ANIMAL.....KILLING HUMAN LIKE KILLING ANIMAL....just for the power and region....FUCKIN HUTU EXTREMIST....YOU ARE REALLY EVIL MONKEY...........

  • fuckin NATHAND8ok...FACE LIKE PIG...HEART LIKE ANIMAL....KILLING PEOPLE FOR GREED....JUST FOR GOLD AND DIAMONDS...FUCKING PIG...YOU REALLY ARE EVIL PIGS....YOU HONKEY.......

  • I hear your pain, and I am sorry for it.

  • i agree with dnbwhynot he makes since the oda guy is just abodumb

  • Fuck Clinton. Fuck Belgium. Maybe they didn't know..but they did exactly what the Hutu extremists wanted. Bagasora's plan worked out perfectly and there were marines at the border, if the marines knew this was happening they probably would have given the finger to their commanders and went rogue and stormed kigali and ended this disgrace. Clinton fucked up somalia and then proceded to fuck up rwanda, but who cares right? Its only Africa?....at least thats the way the administration saw it.

  • Im just gonna go out on a limb and say...

Had their been a giant oil rig dead smack in the center of Rwanda... we wouldnt be watching this documentary right now. Because this genocide wouldnt have happend... because the american government would have sold a story of liberty and justice and sent a division of american soldiers and marines to secure the oil fields.

Im just going out on a limb though...

  • Not to far out...

  • well your limb broke. wtf does oil have to do with anything? if your trying to refer to iraq, then why dont we have the oil? bush bashers can never explain this. if it was about oil, we would have it and our cars would run on 75 cents a gallon like it does in kuwait. was there oil in somalia? or france in WW2? or vietnam? guatemala? panama? need i go on?

  • Oil is a national interest my friend.

Having democratic allies is a national interest.

Back then we still owned the Panama cannal my friend...

    again another national interest.

The US does not get involved unless its to the benefit of so called "national interest"

Im not saying this is totally wrong... but this front of "Operation Just Cause" or "Operation Iraqi freedom" is bull shit.

Say it how it is, and then let the people decide if their should be blood to be lost.

  • Thats the way the world sees it.

  • thats mugambaji on 4:14 RPA For Life. Intwali Zatabaye!

  • to be the righteous savior of the world, the US should have spent less time over "genocide-rhetoric" and more time orchestrating an attack force. I mean, many of the interahamwe only had machetes, for goodness sake. What halted US intervention was the incident the yr b/4 in Mogadishu, and I do believe that racism had a lot to do with non-involvement. And yes, black people can be biased against other blacks, so Kofi Annan definately can share the blame...

  • Actually Belgium did have colonial power over Rwanda. They received it after WWI in the Treaty of Versailles from German. So yes, Belium does have a responsibility to Rwanda, but so does the international community. No country is a proverbial island. Imagine if Saudi Arabia stopped selling OIL to the US...the US would crumble, every government is inter-related. While I do think Belgium had a responsibility, so did the US, with hegemonic powers, fighting wars in the Persian Gulf and proclaiming

  • why the americans acted like pussies?

  • Because there was not money involved?

  • Human beings are supposed to be the best of creation on this earth.

But this is a perfect example of why we are also the worst of creation.

  • Yeah, Mr "Hutu farmer", blame all that chopping people into cutlets on being controlled by the Devil. That'll make you seem contrite.

  • Still it was very strange that normal everyday people( farmers!?) could commit such horrible acts... I think they've been brainwashed in one way or another.. But one thing is sure, it was not normal.. It was like they didn't see the Tutsi's as people but as a pest...

  • God bless the soldiers fromGhana, they were very brave

  • Yea, of course easier if your soldiers are released rather then murdered in cold blood like the Belgians were!

  • Well, that is the european mentallity because I bet that when Rwanda was a Belgian colony they killed more than 10 people, but since they were just black africans who really cares,

  • Probably, not really my fault, not those Belgian soldiers fault. Kinda lame dragging that in, it has nothing to do with the Belgian soldiers being sitting ducks. I mean what were we supposed to do, let them kill a few 100 if not 1000 of our troops so we would be even for colonial times. Don't be an ass.

Btw what affects you most; families crying at home or some thousand miles away.

  • well, they actually killed 800000 tutsis, and 10 belgians is not even 0.1% from all that number, and what is worst is that Belgians lobby the UN so they could get out of Rwanda. Now that is being an ass, it looks like for you belgians lifes are more valuable than Rwandan lifes.

  • So where was your country? It's easy to blame stuff on other people when you are not even willing to stick out your neck. Belgians got murdered and it was a weak UN mandate, what do you want us to do, sacrifice a few thousand of our own to possibly rescue a couple thousand tutsi's? We chose not to, you can blame us all you want but few choose to stay. My countrymen and women are more easier to identify with and others are easier to dehumanise. Those 800.000 are just a grim statistic.

  • This is not a debate. If belgians wanted to leave good for them, but they did not have to carry the UN with them, that was a shame. Belgians were not only cowards, but also rats

  • Well great, your country is so filled with cowards they won't even go! Rats, yea we pushed for a withdraw, do you honestly think any other country, especially the US, minded? They were just as glad to get out as we were.

At least we were willing to go in the first place while nobody else was, did Bolivia send soldiers..... NO, so stop blaming other people for something you weren't willing to do!

We let them die, so did you, the whole world did.

You sound like Dallaire. Blabla Belgians whine.

  • Dallaire is a hero who risked his life and the lives of his troops to save people from genocide. Unlike your cowardly generals, who ran home at the first sign of trouble.

  • What ever! Dallaire was never even shot at so I loath your 'he risked his life'. They didn't call to kill anyone but the Belgians on RTLM. They took ten Belgians and let the Ghanese and Togolese blue helmet go.

Ironically YOUR coward general was unwilling to do anything to save the Belgians.Let's recap, Rwandan army could 'arrest' Belgians quite easily, they just surrounded 20 or so UN soldiers. Then the general was unwilling to do anything to save them.

    That really builds confidence.

  • If you or your country are such heroes why then did we not get support from you when we tried to get a peacekeeping force into east congo last summer? Except for us and the French nobody was willing to send troops. Nobody was willing to send reinforcements to Rwanda as well.

All the UN did was send the Belgians the famous postcard with the kitten, "hang in there, baby".

We got our people out and the rest is speculation. We just don't know what would have happened if we had stayed.

  • Well Canadian soldiers are busy with the mission in Afghanistan. 117 soldiers have been killed so far.

Also, I would argue that countries in Europe (especially countries like Belgium that were passing around African countries like party joints) have a greater responsbility to African nations than a country like Canada.

  • I agree with you. But the fact is that Belgians only have that colonial connection with Congo.

So we only try to help Congo (they have massive amounts of resources), like last summer we were the ones wanting to send troops to East-Congo in Kivu province but nobody wanted to come because they make to much money 'stealing' copper etc from a warzone.

We never colonised a land ourselves as a matter of fact, Belgium never went to Africa to take land that belonged to the Africans.

  • In the here and now you are as responsible for Africa as us. I don't have anything to do with what happened during the colonial era. I don't feel responsible for that part of history. Why should I? Belgium was ruled by foreign rulers from 57 bc till 1830, I don't see us getting any support from them. But I guess that doesn't count because we aren't poor Africans.

The only reason Belgium was a colonial power is the royal family, so take it up with them if you have a problem.

  • You Canadians just don't get it. I guess that is a part of being a country without history.

Afghanistan has NOTHING to do with Rwanda. The fact that you compare those wars is weak. I can randomly choose two wars and compare them to make a point too, but it doesn't work that way.

By now you are as responisble, don't you subsidise your argiculture? Don't you consuming goods (containing) minerals from a warzone thus financing war? You choose not to see it and act like the good guy, lame!

  • Who said I was Canadian? It's sad that you can't make an argument without reducing it to insults. I also never compared the two wars at all. I just said that Canadian forces are engaged in a separate conflict. You will remember that the concept of UN peacekeeping came from a Canadian diplomat who won the Nobel Peace Prize. Canada has participated in almost every UN peacekeeping mission but its military is stretched to the limit.

  • It's pretty clear you are Canadian! Why else mention the Canadian forces in Afghanistan, why not the Brits or Americans.

If you weren't comparing the wars and amount of casualties then why do you mention the war?!!

It doesn't make sense to 'mention' that, it sounds more like one upmanship in casualty numbers and I'd gladly let you take the win.

I am not trying to insult anybody.

I am commenting on Rwanda, I don't know what you are doing.

  • I am not even making insults, I am just saying things which offend you. Like Canada has no history, you do but not even close to the way we have and that is just something you have to deal with.

Except for the point about colonies you are just saying things that, in your eyes, show the greatness of Canada. Good for you!

  • I mentioned Canada because you were talking to a Canadian earlier. I mentioned the war because you were asking why there weren't forces helping out in peacekeeping missions. Canadian forces are engaged in another war. Canada has a history of participating in peacekeeping missions so I imagine it would be there but its military is very limited and it is currently engaged. You didn't offend me at all, you just have a belligerent tone to your comments which take away from your argument.

  • I was talking about Darfur. There is no genocide in Afghanistan.

Canada's military is very limited? What do you think Belgium has got?! All I am talking about is Rwanda. I am not talking about peacekeeping in general, btw I wouldn't call Afghanistan a peacekeeping mission more like full on war.

I was talking about how people are still allowing genocide to happen despite several 'never agains'. That's on all of us not just one country.

I know I should adjust my tone, sorry.
