Thanks for this beautiful and powerful reminder of all the things that play into our kids with behavior problems. Two of mine are diagnosed and it's a tough road for them, even with all we do to support!
@FlutterbyClownFairy OCD is thought to be due to a chemical imbalance whereas ODD they don't really know the cause. Genetics is said to play a role in anxiety and tourettes syndrome but the true cause is also unknown. I think, it is good to acknowledge the impact we have on others lives but it is pointless to get into blaming others or blaming ourselves. It is more about accepting responsibility and making changes that we can.
I have a son who is autistic, and along with that comes OCD, ODD, conduct disorder/behavioral disorder, depression, ADHD, anxiety, social skill delays, developmental delays, among other things. So, yes for high functioning autism or PDD-NOS (pervasive development disorder - not otherwise specified) autism, behavior is very much a contributing factor. It is usually the BIGGEST problem and the one that is the HARDEST to fix, and unfortunately is sometimes unfixable.
autism isn't a behaivioral disorder it is nuerological! Niether is ADHD or depression or bi polar! This much is WRONG! I have a son with a behaivioral disorder he has conduct disorder. Please look into it. Also look into ODD nice video

theres this boy in my class he never talks he uses sign language....
since he was little he never said a word he only moans
he acts like he has a disorder because he gets mad when he dosent get what he want he understands you tho is somehin run :O
