ur daughter is too cute! and @007newnew I was actually in ur daughters position. my hair used 2 b tht long and then i guess my dad secretly got me a perm but didnt keep it up...guess where tht hair went:( but this gave me sum ideas:), im in highschool now so if u hav like hairstyles for older teens tht wuld help alot thnx
@detsdaniel My older daughter had natural hair down to her waist when she was 6. I took her to a Dominican salon and they told me to perm her hair and told me to cut it because it was too long. Mind you, their little nieces were running around outside with hair down to their butts. It upset me so much. Take this situation into your own hands. Evaluate if she truly needs 1 proper cut to clean the ends and then you find someone you trust. Next, you keep up with the trims yourself. HTH
This is a great video. I have twin girls with curly wild hair and the detangling process is... A process. I am trying to find the right conditioners and moisturizers for their hair. Can you suggest something suitable for toddlers?
@Darlyon3 Thanks Love! TWINS!!! Double Blessings ;o) And double the hair!! I have a difficult time recommending products b/c everyone's hair responds differently to different products. The one thing that has been constant in assisting in moisturizing and some detangling the 3 of us is the kimmaytube moisture recipe (search on here if you haven't seen that video yet). I like ALL NATURAL products on my daughters hair as a leave in. Giovanni works well.
@MegaLasmith I shampoo her hair 1Xweekly or the longest I go is 10days to 2 weeks. In between, I will co-wash. Her hair is typically in small to medium sized two strand twists, so it is never a problem to wet it, and I think her hair thrives on the fact that it gets wet every 4 days! So, limiting the drying factor (shampoo), to approx every 10 days, her hair still gets moisture (WATER). Her length is definitely retaining now. HTH! thanx Love
@MegaLasmith I forgot the other question ;o) I use diluted baby shampoo. Also use anything natural. right now using taliah wajid shampoo for the kids (usually dilute too).
Sorry I was meant to write in England it is uncommon for children under 12 to get a relaxer they normally get their first relaxer when they begin high school.
@RIYAHH21 So their "rite of passage" allows them to go through puberty at least!! In the US it would be a guess, but from what I've witnessed, these girls often get the relaxer done by 2nd grade (7 or 8 years old)!!! That's ridiculous. I was a part of that foolishness. But I was ignorant. I just didn't know any better. Now I know. Thanks for sharing Love!
It's amazing how they learn to love their hair both my daughters age 7 and 11 have no intrest in relaxers at all they love their hair just the way it is. Your little girl's hair is going to grow even longer, she has the same hair as my 7 year old and wow the older she got the more the hair became longer and fuller I am just learning to let her hair dry naturally because over the years I have been blow drying it and she had lost her coil patten a little so now I just leave the girl's hair to dry
after watching this video i want to use kimmaytubes leave in and a shaeloe mix as moisturizers after washes and to use to style but i was wondering Is it possible to over-moisturize your hair?
Gorgeous hair, and love, love, love the message you're putting out there. One thing you mentioned that I'm curious about is the aloe vera gel. What brand are you using? I picked one up recently thinking it was pure but it had seed weed for thickening and a mold inhibitor listed in the ingredients.
@007newnew, what is your take on girls' hair texture changing from infant to possibly 5 yrs of age? I found my daughter's haiir just seem "different" prior to her turn 5 and I heard the "difference" is her "true" texture starting to grow out. So, I cut the ends that were of her old texture b/c it's growth just halt. But I will start spraying water on her hair instead of styling drying hair.
Ooo I might have to still some of those protective styles for me and my daughter. I like them because they look simple and have a unique style thank you :)
Thank you!I've got a schedule &that' making it easier . My 8 year old has taken a big interest in doing her own hair.Aloe vera gel works excellent on her hair even though she is mostly relaxed !I've thrown away the relaxer& plan on just plaiting her hair through the transition because she's still a little girl! The aloe vera gel forms a film & holds in the moisture.I was using the spray but the gel is better! She was so mad at me for relaxing her hair and I was ashamed because I knew better!
@jdarkangel11 'sup darkangel ;0) IDK when she had time to get all that hair. But me and you will catch up with her little self LOL. Thanks for the message Love!
@LongHairLashae Hey sweetie! So what exactly you doing with that head of lots of hair you have? You transitioning? Well let me just say--if ur her hair twin you will have fun b/c her hair has loads of body but is still fine (I can't explain it--but I'll be putting it on video).
@007newnew I'm still transitioning..I don't think I'ma ever cut it off. I'm 18months into my transition now. I have fun with my hair now..even though its hard sometimes.
@humyname I bought an 8 ounce that seems to be mixed with veggie glycerin and I just put it on the hair by itself or as a refresher. It moisturizes and somehow it also defines the curls. You could use it pretty much anyway you want and it wont do you nothing but good. I was told that it is a perfect definer for braid outs!!! I haven't tried that yet but I will.
Her hair is gorgeous, I think society is changing slowly but surely, so many are now going natural.I think relaxed hair will become the minority soon.
@KLT828 I walk around and I don't know if it's b/c I'm loving natural hair now and never noticed it b4. But I see so many people with twists/fros/ EVERYTHING. And we are def a minority where I live, sooo It's wild. I looked up to see 2 girls looking at my hair the other day. My friend said the same thing (she's seeing lots of natural hair wearing now). The relaxer industry is definitely seeing a decline now (saw the data on that). They'll re-vamp I'm sure. you saw the Argon oil relaxer? Hahahaha
@007newnew I saw that( an argan oil relaxer) new tricks to get black women to continue relaxing their hair.lol
all I know is that if a woman really wants to continue to have straight hair she can buy a quality flatiron and get that. my hair striagthened looks relaxed still, people are surprised to know that most of my hair is now natural and the flatiron gets it that straight, Def. no more relaxers for me not even the new Argan oil one.) lol
@007newnew Girl I saw that, new gimmicks to get black women to continue relaxing their hair. I have been teaching black women now that they can still rock striaght hair with a quality flatiron if they still want straight hair. they can't believe that most of my hair is natural at this point and I just use a flat iron to straighten it out if I want ,def. a relaxer is no longer needed to achieve that look. Natural hair means versatility. Def.no more relaxer for me not even the new argan oil one.
She's so adorable! and her hair is beautiful.. i tend to find myself with the same problems that's why I have to keep my hair moisturize and I'm working on those sigle strand knots!! ugh!! lol but you're doing an amazing job with her hair as well as your own :)
@beautiful4days You're right--she does (never really thought about that b4).I hope no one takes that away from her... Everybody's vision of "beauty" is so different. Follows the fashion pages and is so fickle. Thanks my Love!
So luv this vid! Bless u for empowering ur baby girl early on. My father absolutely forbid my mother to relax my hair and I didn't relax until he passed away. I was an adult so I knew exactly what my hair was like in it's natural state, but didn't know how to manage the frizz n YES - I resorted to creamy crack, but I'm back to my senses now...lol Wish I could've figured it out a long time ago...good for you!
@Geechi28 Funny! All the time it's the Dads who don't want the relaxer on their baby girls hair! Hubby was so thrilled when I announced no more relaxer on our hair! AND when I relaxed the older daughter's hair he was sooooo mad! You know what? It's never to early or late to learn stuff ;0) Thanks for the message!
Your daughters are so fortunate to have a mommy like you to teach them to love their natural curlys and coils!! By the time your lil one gets to her older sisters age, she is going to be a pro at caring for her hair!!
@MsChanteJ72 Thanks hun ;0) It's a battle, though. Because the older daughter likes her hair only straight. So now the little one wants (guess what) straight hair! I'm still working on them ;0). But I think this will eventually be so the norm for BOTH of them. Lets keep hoping ;0)
what an awesome video. I don't have a daughter but my son is growing his hair out and believe me I know about the detangling wet and with his oils to keep a twist or coils..
@killakahl Thank You hunny ;0) I never thought about detangling with a boy. Probably b/c my dad kept my brother's hair real low (just so he wouldn't have to detangle) LOL. My nephew's growing out his hair and I told him to use conditioner b/c it seemed like he was just using shampoo and his hair was so dry. Gotta tell him to use the butters/oils! Thanks for the message.
