Anyone in this world that dare to even think that a drummer is not a musician is a fuckin stupid idiot piece of shit!!! the begginings of the music were in a percussive way something that's called Rythm the first human beings that started to emulate the sounds of nature did with percussive instruments they built because there wasn't any music knowledge until Pitagoras discovered 7 sounds that became the music notes please read a lil bit
The audience is just sitting there looking so bored. WTF? Antonio is flipping amazing and they are just sittiing like a bunch of zombies. Are they paid to sit there? He is amazing!
I still maintain 95% of drummers aren't musicians, because no one wants to think melodically. He is among the exceptions who transcend the instrument.
Maintain THIS. Where did you pull that figure out of? Your ass? 95% are not musicians? Melody isn't about THINKING, it is about listening. Any good music teacher starts getting the drummer to LISTEN to the melody when playing in a jazz band class. Then when each player gets their solo the drummer is supposed to play melodically. Furthermore, drums are part of the rhythm section NOT the melody section, jerk. Antonio is very great but there are plenty of great drummers out there who are musicians.
He was a couple of years ahead of me at Berklee. Aside from learning whatever the curriculum would hurl at me I took from him outside of school. He was ridiculous. It literally got to the point where I'd pay to watch him play instead, and all that time I never saw where he parked his UFO.
Antonio Sanchez is one of my favorite drummers of today. He basically just articulated my whole approach to both spoken language and music when learning a new language. I try to learn the accents, grammar, etc. Brilliant.
Yeah lol better than Peart not a ton of people better than Antonio haha. This guy blew my mind with the gathering sky thing I saw him play with pat metheny on TV "Austin City Limits" it was when we first got Tivo lol and that performance was on the tivo until we had to get a new box then i couldnt watch it anymore i was sad but damn is he amazing
He's absolutely right, dynamics is something too often lost on rock musicians altogether. They don't realize the power & application of dynamics. Also notice that his forearms are rarely ever on an angle upwards, his kit is easily accessible to him.
It's not a matter of where the artist is from or how famous they were, it's about artistic skills, about sensibility. Leo Acosta was a very good drummer, he reminded me a litle of Big Sid Cattlet, you all shoul watch him, although there are not many nor very good videos here on youtube, but I think it wouldn't harm a bit of research before saying how good or bad he was at drumming.
The tune he's plating is called One For Antonio, by Chick Corea, you can find it in Antonio's album Migration, that's a tune Chick composed for Antonio. And I think that he's playing triplets on bass and toms around 3:05, he only doubles the last triplet on the air tom.
they're too busy nodding sagely and overanalyzing his performance while not really understanding what's going on. It's a drumming masterclass, what do you expect.
