I have not seen his most recent performances and I respect your comment and will look at them before I cast any judgement. I do want to say that I have ALWAYS thought he was one of the most talented singers of my era and any era for that matter. I guess I just hate to see the way his life has turned. To those commenting about his voice in this clip, George had agreed to perform on Idol for their charity night event and unfortunately, developed an illness prior to the show but despite battling symptoms that would probably have most others buried under their blankets, he refused to cancel. And yet, he still nailed it.
It is so sad to see him now from what he was. He truly blessed with an incredible voice and presence back in the 80s and early 90's. He is just a shell of his former self.....very depressing to watch.

@mrbarleymob I have seen GM in concert. Twice. He was brilliant, and sang this song to perfection. Sick or not, this was not a great performance equal to the ones I have seen in the past. Doesn't mean I don't still think he is awesome - he is! Just not a great performance. Calm down.

George is another one of our tortured geniuses. It seems the more musically talented someone is, the more demons they have to deal with. We should enjoy George while we have him, and not let him become another Michael Jackson in which we taunt, ridicule and hate him while he's alive, only to worship him when he's gone and it's too late.

Such a touching song that is so universal.. many feel this at some point.. the message is to keep hope in the darkest times.. and always pray regardless of circumstances.. that is the message I received. It's like an open prayer for all.. how amazing is that? How anyone else could have a problem with this song is beyond me.. it's pure genius.

Oh and I'm sorry zefrenchgirl, I know you were talking about George in general, but he got WAY more heat (VERY HATEFUL HEAT), for this song than any other and way above his sexual orientation. The very people that supported him turned their back on him when he released this and were x10 pissed when he sung this two years ago. More power to him.

I have not seen his most recent performances and I respect your comment and will look at them before I cast any judgement. I do want to say that I have ALWAYS thought he was one of the most talented singers of my era and any era for that matter. I guess I just hate to see the way his life has turned. Maybe that is a dumb statement but it is an honest one. In his hey dey, there were truly none better.

@timcpatrice Well, you've noticed that I'm a huge fan of the man. :-) Of course I don't agree with some of the "mistakes" he recently made in his priv. life but still it is what it is: his priv.life and anyway it's blown way out of proportion IMO. However,during his performances he's still way better than most other artists of his era and other's.Come on, he's only 47 yrs old, once he can sort himself out, and he's doing an effort at the moment, I believe he'll come back with great music.FAITH!

To those commenting about his voice in this clip, George had agreed to perform on Idol for their charity night event and unfortunately, developed an illness prior to the show but despite battling symptoms that would probably have most others buried under their blankets, he refused to cancel. And yet, he still nailed it.

It is so sad to see him now from what he was. He truly blessed with an incredible voice and presence back in the 80s and early 90's. He is just a shell of his former self.....very depressing to watch.

@timcpatrice Do you ever read which comments were given here before or do you ever look at video's of his 25 live tour recently (even after this perform) for that matter? Believe me he IS STILL VERY VERY GOOD and sounds perfect! George had a cold during his appearance here on A.I. As said here a few times "he still sounds way better than nearly any other artist on the planet".That will never change as long as he's alive and even longer. He's just one brilliant and extraordinary h.b. and artist!

@zefrenchgirl Don't listen to these pedants... George sounds still fabulous!!! Even IF his voice schould be a little less powerfull his is still far more better than those of others of his era. He can compete and even easily win from most singers in the business at this moment. So don't worry, maybe those critics have a slight hearingproblem to put it carefully ??? :-) ;-)

@zefrenchgirl They're not mean to HIM. They're mean to the message that this sends. The song is controversial because Humankind doesn't want to acknowledge just how evil it has become. We're so quick to excuse every behavior, every hatred, everything. And wha'ts worse these days? We tend to blame it on our predecessors because of their beliefs, etc. Instead of owning up to our own faults and our own failures. We as humans in2010? think we know it all. Why? @zefrenchgirl go youtube and see him singing Careless Whisper. Compare it to his voice from the 80s singing CW in concert. Then tell yourself if he's got the same voice as before. He can't reach those high notes no more. Too much drugs and cigarettes!

I miss the 80's and early 90's - best era in music industry (George, Madonna, Bryan Adams, Whitney Houston, Belinda Carlisle, Tina Turner, Sandra, Cher, Michael & Janet Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, A-HA, Paula Abdul, Laura Branigan, Depeche Mode, Enigma, Sade and many others).
