  • Here from ponies, yeah you heard me right.

  • I have one of these and it sounds like complete crap... THAT IS WHY I LOVE IT... Dude is right, the only way to make it sound good is above the 12'th fret on the neck pickup... and if you use it with a Tube Screamer or a Blues Driver, it sounds like heaven (It's a "feel" thing... just one of those crazy sounds that inspires you). This pedal is a "one trick pony". Search for "John Mayer Black Cat" and you'll hear what this pedal sounds like...

  • @1:40 perfect tone for playing Blue Collar Man by Styx.

  • @BaneOfXistence4 nah you need to get a Hammond B3 to do that ;)

  • Is there any point in having a fuzz face if you have this octavio?

  • @Trakstar84 yeah you can use the fuzz face along with this pedal to get a more pronounced octave

  • @Trakstar84 I believe Hendrix used both together on solos like Purple haze

  • This or a fuzzface? What's the difference?

  • Roger Mayer invented the Octavio. He has said that the pedal in the Jimi Hendrix museum isnt Jimis Pedal. I own Jimi's Actual Octavia that he used at Band of gypsys concert. Its the only Octavia that Roger Mayer has ever documented as being Jimi Hendrixs pedal. Dunlop wasnt allowed to take the pedal apart. They made a mistake in the wiring. Chicgo Iron took apart Jimis real pedal and he has duplicated the tycobrahe Octavia really well. They are the only ones that know the layout of Jimis wiring

  • @ALBERTromano1965 you don't have to lie to be cool.

  • @ALBERTromano1965 yeah this is believable

  • @ALBERTromano1965 I checked out your channel.....nice playing but you owning Jimi's original pedal ???

Why would he not be one of your favourite musicians......Give it to someone who actually loves Jimi.. !!!

Please explain how you acquired it...love to hear the story !!

  • Whats the difference between a fuzzface and an octavio?

  • @SuperNesmaster octavio is a nastier fuzz with an octave up effect

  • im digging the fact that you guys are stooges fans, with no fun in this one and search and destroy in the swollen pickle vid

  • 3:27 oooh yeah :)

  • How does this compare to the Roger Mayer Octavia?

  • hahaha he keps pointing at it constantly lol

  • why is 'octavio' upside downio?

  • @KillYourTeeVee

uʍop ǝpısdn ǝq oʇ sǝʞıן "oıʌɐʇɔo" ǝɥʇ ǝqʎɐɯ

  • @alittleforgettable how did you type that. that's cool!

  • i know your supposed to use a neck single coil to get the most out of octavia type pedals, does a p90 work as well, since it is a single coil?

  • It sound great :)

  • would rather go buy a Fuzz face JH-F1

  • seriously this guy should play hendrix songs with hendrix pedal!

  • fuzz octive? foctive?

  • it would really help if you could just repeatedly point to what your talking about hahaha....

  • I have one and the instructions to get the Band of Gypsies sound, is too roll the fuzz all the way back and max the gain.

then you get that Who Knows Bell tone sound.

ofcourse standing in front of scafflolds filled with Marshalls would help.

This pedal has given me trouble, but when it works it does do what it says it will. that bell tone, outer space sound. the fuzz actually makes it sound like and ordinary fuzz, go it all about the gain. the fuzz drowns out the octave

  • @MayThisBeLurve run it off 9 v adapter.

  • @taariqtaariq

You can't. There's no space for an adapter. It's battery only.

  • I never knew what Octavio or Octavia pedals are? Whats the point of them and what do they do?

  • Hey PGS, would you recommend this pedal of the Fulltone OctaFuzz for classic rock and garage blues?

  • is this pedal true bypass?

  • this plus blue-box

  • what song is that before the video starts?

  • @Choji11 I've also been looking for it, but it's just some kind of jingle I think... but thats a bad ass riff!

  • authentic mahn!!!!

  • can this pedal be powered by an adpator or battery only?

  • you were hurting the pedal's feelings by pointing at it the way you did. wasnt the original that jimi used called the 'octavia'?

  • @nepalnt21 They were the same pedal, the circuit designs were changed throughout the years but they are basicly ther same.

  • Can you make this go down an octave like a guitar in seven nation army?

  • @MayThisBeLurve Do you turn the level knob all the way down until it clicks off? Even if it's unplugged, it still drains the battery. Worst design feature ever. I still forget to turn it off sometimes and I've had it for years.

  • sick!!!

  • hi whats the opening song in this video? like RIGHT at the start before you actually get into the video. it's got a sick dirty street sound to it

  • There are so many times in this video I went, "oh my gosh, that sound..."

  • I heard that the Octavio and all vintage and nos pedals sounds more original when you use Carbon Zinc batteries. Danelectro make some great carbon batteries.

  • where's tha soul? what you ain't got no soul mothafucka?

  • what the FUUUUZZZ !

  • I've always had a soft spot for wedge-shaped pedals.

  • now this pedal, and the other Hendrix pedals by Dunlop, sound fantastic. However, I feel like the chords I'm using for the Fuzz Face and Wah take away from the tone (since they are very cheap). What Cables (both longer and patch cables) would you recommend? Thanks

  • i want to know when he used this pedal? did he use it for 5 min and say "this sucks!" WTF I think his octave fuzz in Band Of Gypsies and it sounds a lot like the Fender Blender to me.

  • can you do the fender blender reissue??? please please please

  • Had one of these for 2 days before taking it back, total one trick pony. It is a faithful recreation but really is only good for some lead lines. the tone is pretty nasty sounding, completely poor for chord work, circuits were very basic and unrefined back then, but if you want to pay that much money for a few seconds of a solo then go for it.

  • PGSD now has (666) videos!

  • Hendrix made good use of one of these, but what if you do not have a Strat or a guitar with a neck pickup? Can you use it if youre guitar has just one pickup?

  • " i see your point"

  • Hi there people can anyone tell me if this petal comes with the fuzz and octave at the same time or you can use them seperate.

    thanks

  • Hi there people can anyone tell me if this petal comes with the fuzz and octave at the same time or you can use them seperate.

    thanks

  • @GiannisSta8hs The fuzz and octave are all part of the tone. You will not find clean octave up unless it's digital, like the POG

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Yes you can...check out the elite tone fillmore thunder, but it does not have a better fuzz tone than this :)

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

But the Fuzz in this Octavio is not the same as the Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face, right?

  • @RippedPantsBand The schematics are quite different. The fuzzface uses voltage feedback biasing, whereas the octavia's fuzz part has a fixed bias circuit. Also the octaving circuit adds it's own clipping distortion, although I don't know how much this contributes to the sound. If you don't know what this means, thats ok, I only know this because I diy-built an octavia :) In effect, the FuzzFace has a more mushy soft type distortion, whereas the octavia is harsher, more rigid.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos - Actually Now you can get both with the Elite Tone Fillmore Thunder.

  • @GiannisSta8hs you can likely mod the Octavio with a switch that switches the octave on / off. But you won't be able to get rid of the fuzz.

  • It's Jimi's tone! Right there!!! Holy shit, I am BUYING this pedal...

  • how do you put a pedal in front of an amp?

  • @guitarsalert I don't want to sound rude, but I don't anyone here is exactly sure what you're asking

  • @guitarsalert

Um, plug the guitar into the pedal, and then into the amp?

  • Andy your pointing is so funny :)

I have noticed that you have stopped pointing to the pedal so much , but i think you should bring it back just for one of your new videos :P

  • no fun by the stooges!! <3

  • I like the sound and I'm definatly thinking about purchasing it, but I don't know if I should purchase the Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face first, or this. Any suggestions?

  • juicy

  • What is that hard riff at the beginning of the video?

  • lol "chunky fuzz"

  • love this intro!!!

  • @TheMrPDSF me to.song?

  • the ugly's lokin' pedal ever, but also one of the best fuzz ever.

  • it lacks of sustain, i dont like that on a fuzz, sounds very dry, i prefer my big muff !!! those aree nice.

    BTW, nice review

  • looks like the pedal is talking o.O

  • Andy! its not polite to point

  • Can't you use the 9v battery connector that comes with the Godlyke Deluxe Power supply? (It has the 9v battery connector which then connects to your daisychain line to the power supply) Thanks

  • @cjagsmith yeah, as long as it connects to the battery connector then you should be fine.

  • i can do some money for nothin with that shit

  • wow that pedal LOOKs sooooooo sick

  • Andy always manages to make anything sound good

  • What about a demo with the octavio AND the fuzzface?

  • This is not that awesome i guess... in my opinion sounds like crap

  • what a beautiful fucking pedal

  • satch uses it on Professor Satchafunkilus and the musterion of rock

  • Thanks for pointing at the pedal every 10 seconds, I kept losing track of where it was

  • @Evinpar - Ha! No pointing in our newer videos, by the way. Strictly forbidden.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos thank you! mad disrepectful

  • @Evinpar

That's the POINTless thing i've ever heard

  • @Evinpar LMAO

  • @Evinpar Yeah - I think this is the same guy from the old Mr. Bill films on Saturday Night Live.

  • @Evinpar hahahahaha XD

  • lolol

  • @Evinpar Haaa haa haaaaa! Too funny.

  • @Evinpar LMAO :D :D :D your comment made me watch all of the video :D

  • can you turn the fuzz off and use it like a boost kinda like srv

  • Guyatone TZ-2 will blow this away!!!

  • He used this pedal for purple haze solo and that's pretty much it. Good pedal , i have it and i use it to get feed back and higher octave when want them

  • jimi didnt used dunlop products

  • In what songs did jimi used this?

  • @claudiodifazio14 "We Gotta Live Together" is the best example i can think of... he didn't start using much until the band of gypsies days

  • @claudiodifazio14 Off the top of my head i know he used it in Voodoo Chile Blues and House Burning Down. He really used the fuck out if it on those songs too. Classics..

  • i know you're using a g&l legacy into '65 amp soho. but would this sound great with a gibson les paul into a marshall stack?

  • Does this sound good on a tele neck pickup?

I have a year old Fender American Standard Tele.

  • What is the song in the beginning?

  • Got this one. Nice sound but the sustain is non-existent and that makes it really hard to play solo-parts with.

  • If you want octave up with this original design, sustain needs to come from other ways ( amp distortion or a pedal). That's just the nature of the old circuit.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Nothing like kicking on an octavia before an already screaming amp!

  • @waaaters If you want sustain octave try and EH POG and a comp

  • @waaaters funny with this effect, it really depends on the amp settings...I plugged my octavio in the shop and it sounded like this video, kinda disssapointed, bought it anyway, then took it home and SHHAZAAMMM! Balls out endless sustain, simply incredible. Really weird effect, but I love it..if I lost it, I'd buy one immediately to replace it...mine sounds like the gearmandude demo...endless sustain, but I know the issues you are dealing with sustain wise, but don't know why.

  • 2:30-2:45 NO FUN ,the stooges

  • stop pointing, we know the device is there...

  • hahhaha

  • get the Voodoo Lab Proctavia lf your looking for a true replica of Hendrixs main Octavia pedal, this dunlops a copy of one hendrix never even used and the octafuzz has different components. you wont regret lt

  • @loganbramhall1989 The Voodoo Lab Proctavia isn't a true replica of Hendrix main Octavia, it's also a replica of an octavia hendrix never used. You can mail Voodoo Lab to confirm this.

It's a great octavia nonetheless, but the only guy who might know what was inside of hendrix octavias is the guy who built and modified them: Roger Mayer

  • is this true bypass? if not has anyone moded it to be so?

  • im not sure but i think keeley has a mod... it may be true bypass...

  • which one is better, this or fulltone octafuzz?

  • I like the octafuzz more than this. it has a clearer octave and not such an trebly tone. But I personally prefer the fulltone ultimate octave.

  • this

  • the fuzz sounds awesome

  • reminds me of Big Sugar I wonder if they use this pedal.

  • the last quesion please, does this guitar gives you a feedback?

  • please, answer, i've got to know! i'm in love with that tone!

  • does jimi use this in the star spangled banner at woodstock

  • No, no octavia at Woodstock. That was just Fuzz, Univivbe and Wah.

  • Does it have a slot for a power supply? is there any manual how to make it yourself? i really love that, but i don't want to use it with batteries

  • battery power, just like the original

  • can you mod it? can you add a power supply?

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

What do you like more. the way huge swollen pickle or the octavio

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos 9v adapter to a power board?

  • @GaudyPersoneNonGrate you can take the battery pack and cut of the tip and then hook it up to the ed of a 9v

  • @GaudyPersoneNonGrate If you have a voodoo labs pedal power pack. You can use one of the battery clip adaptors to link it to the power pack. Saves you drilling into a classic pedal. :)

  • @GaudyPersoneNonGrate

I have one, I bought a 9v DC 400ma wall adapter and spliced on a 9v battery terminal, it's never hiccuped once, and it's saved me a ton of money, batteries go incredibly quick in this stupid thing

  • do u play fifths or single notes on 0:08-0:12?

  • most likely chords (fifths)

  • he could be doing both. probably single other octave.

  • oops. i mean single notes with the pedal sounding the other note to make the octave.

  • Great pedal. Anyone know a good fuzz pedal that works well when COMBINED with this one, i know Hendrix's fuzz face is an obvious choice but i've heard a lot of bad things about the new models anyone know any others?

  • The Hendrix Fuzz Face is way over-priced, you can DIY one for a lot less. The ZVex Fuzz Face would be a good one. Most Germanium fuzzes would sound good.

  • @ripcurl979 try the mjm london fuzz pedals.

  • hey can you give me an example of a jimi hendrix song where he uses any octave pedal.

if u have a live vid for it too with jimi please send me as well

  • @Mkamalid Purple Haze solo and the Band of Gypsys album

  • Hi Andy!!

I'm gonna buy a strat from PGS and I can't decide to choose one with maple fretboard or rosewood?

Does it make any difference to the sound or the feel?

    Thanks.

  • When all factors are taken into account the fretboard wood makes very little difference in tone. It's mostly a feel thing. Purely a personal preference.

  • personaly i love solid maple to me it looks better what makes the big difference it the varnish some like heavy varnish and some like very little varnish

  • @Nimrod9458 i would have to disagree...rosewood is warmer, more mellow....and maple is brighter, more pronounced and punchier.....maple is also a smoother wood so sliding around the neck is easier....like PGS said its a little difference...but still a difference....thats why guitarists will have the same guitar with diff fretboard woods...

  • i no this pedal only works with single coils like on strats, but would this pedal work with P90s????

  • Is this pedal 100% true bypass?

  • i need more pedals all i have is the hendrix wah but this and a fuzz face would be awesome

  • does this sound just as good with a les paul? its either this or a wah for xmas!

  • I got me both... they are both shit! :D

  • this pedal has my name on it lol thats awesome

  • i love that pointing finger. haha

  • Comment removed

  • No.-

  • This or the Big Muff....Opinions?

  • both!

    this first

  • i own a big muff. the fuzz on it resembles a rat distortion box with a little more fuzz. my distinct tone is wild and crazy, not robotish or gainish. this is no gain pedal! this is a fuzz octave pedal. in my opinion, this is WAY better thatn the big muff in terms of fuzz. plus, its just way more fun to play with =)

  • So what you're saying is that your muff is big and fuzzy? ROFL

  • get the big muff, its the perfect pedal, you dont wanna be a copy of the most popular guitarist ever, anyway!

  • I like the pointy finger. In case you weren't sure what we're looking at...

  • any one know the dimensions (width and length) on this??

  • Almost the same as a Crybaby wah wah pedal.. The length is a bit smaller but the width is a bit bigger.

  • Did I hear 'Man on the Silver Mountain' in there?

  • wooah that intro was sweeeet!

  • "the first knob is fuzz, which gives you that fuzz"

  • hehehehe

  • lol hahahahaha

  • what`s the on/off switch for? :)

  • You're smile seems to indicate that you really know what it is for-

    You sly fox, you!

  • @punkdude543 He does say Fuzz with that upper octave effect, though

  • Ah man, the HBE UFO is the best deal for a fuzz octave pedal. Superior fuzz on it's own with an octave above that works across the entire fretboard. Sells for less than the one trick Octavio!

  • Im lookin for a good octave fuzz to use strictly as a boost and $170 seems kinda steep (considering it will just be a boost pedal). can someone recommend another octave fuzz?

  • the voodoo labs proctavia sounds pretty good, and its about $130

  • I dunno, just look around music shops and ebay and what not. I just put this pedal on lay-buy at a Shmitt's Music store, it was NEW, on sale for $99. Next to it was a Hendrix fuzz face new for 109. If you're patient you can find good deals

  • hey guys just wondering what would this pedal sound with a les paul? and the jimi fuzz face sound with a lp i read it doesnt sound to good?? can someone help me? thanks
