  • animals are GODS CREATURES, HUMANS don't be selfish, be a real CHRISTIAN SHOW YOUR COMPASSION!!

  • Something's wrong with people who leave their pets pehind..

  • I have read that many pet owners were not allowed to take their animals when rescued. What should be changed is that. The authorities must permit owners and pets to be rescued together.

  • @aviram12100 it was changed immediately after Katrina ..We have never evacuated an entire city before so the pet laws we have now "pets were food is, Pets on public transportation and ect, ect" interfered w/ that...Now those laws DO NOT apply to areas facing a disaster and that are being evacuated...If states do not comply to the evacuation of pets and their owners they face no funding from FEMA at ALL....At least we learned from our mistakes.....to bad it was a costly one tho....

  • For the people bashing the owners, a lot of the evacuation methods would not allow pets on. Google "Snowball, Hurricane Katrina". A lot of people evacuated were not given the choice to take their animals.

  • Bless these people for helping these poor forgotten dogs.

  • God bless these people for Climbing around this rubble and waste to give food and water to these helpless dogs !! YAY for them !!

  • so many years and these vidoes still make me cry more than ever !

  • I'm crying like a baby now

  • @candygirl050792 im crying with you :( i want to go squeeze my pendejo, thats my cat :)+++++++

  • I dislike how most of you are complaining that they should have saved the animals over the people.. No. They should have saved them both at the same time, there was no reason to leave them behind but to imply the other should have been left behind is stupid. And those that had to leave, some owners did the best they could to keep thier animals supplied till they could be rescued at a later date.

  • i dont think you guys understand that the rescuers told the people of Katrina their pets were not allowed on the boats. they had to use all available room to save humans. it was either stay and possibly die with your pets or leave them behind. personally would like to think I would have stayed but you have to understand most people don't think that way. I don't think you truly understand until you've been through that kind of situation.

  • i aint watching this i wanna be happy not sad :(!

  • @Indio156 You should have read up a little on Katrina before you posted impugning New Orleans pet owners. They were not allowed to take their pets with them upon rescue. Get it now?

A law was passed a few years ago so that they will be now be allowed to.

  • @songnight wow really?? I`m glad! It was so unfair,I could never leave my pets behind :(

  • @zeabolso Yep. From Wikipedia: The Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act (PETS) was a bi-partisan initiative in the United States House of Representatives to require states seeking Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance to accommodate pets and service animals in their plans for evacuating residents facing disasters.

It was signed into law 10/2006.

  • excellent work in horrible conditions. thank you.

  • I really want to rescue animals in disaster. But in my country, they don't care about pets, they just rescue people. I cried when i watched this video.

  • they should have rescued the animals first before the people.

  • my dog was almost 100 pds so we couldn't take her and shelter wouldn't and she had just 4 puppies we came back we couldn't find her or the puppies. :(

  • i'm sorry to hear that :( i experienced a similar tragedy after katrina...since that happened I've chosen to make animal rescue my career. It was the best decision I have ever made

  • waw that is dipressing

  • Hey Folks;

I'm about ready to drop out of a certain relief group over pet issues. They run shelters ... then tell people to leave the critters BEHIND. CRAZY :( :(

  • =( poor babies

  • All over the world, there are too many unwanted pets in shelters that are killed, if they don't find homes. Nobody should ever buy pets, until it's possible for every shelter pet to find a home, so no shelter pets will be killed. Everyone should ADOPT PETS and save a life that way.

  • There's no excuse for leaving pets behind in a disaster, and the relief groups that ask you not to bring your pets to a shelter should change their tune. Most pet owners consider their pet a part of the family ....

  • wb7ptr, if "most pet owners" considered their pet a part of the family, those who evacuated would have ALL taken their pets with them, just as they took their kids, husbands, wives, parents. It is SICKENING to be that anyone would leave a pet behind. I have 6 cats, and I take care of a Pitbull when his owner is away. NO WAY WOULD I LEAVE ANY OF THEM BEHIND. NO FUCKING WAY, NOT EVER. THEY DEPEND ON ADULTS, JUST AS INFANTS DO, WHO CANNOT SPEAK OR CALL FOR HELP.

  • @Indio156

The were forced to leave their pets behind b/c there wasn't enough room at the Astrodome and everywhere else they randomly sent the evacuees. They even split up families sending them to different shelters around the country. Get your facts straight before you criticize.

  • @Indio156

Good comment. I totally agree with you <3

  • @Indio156 a thousand thumbs up

  • @Indio156 In a disaster state, there are not always resources to allow the evacuation of animals. If the owners are going to a shelter, many do not allow pets. It becomes the burden of organizations like Muttshack to rescue who was left behind.

  • @Indio156 I agree 100%,

  • @Indio156

There are many circumstances that you are not taking into consideration

1.) Most residents had no means of evacuations or working vehicles due to the poverty of the city

2.) Basically all shelters & public transportation at the time banned pets

3.) Peoples judgements become hazed in the face of disaster

This doesn't justify all the pet owners in these situations; but counts for a large majority of these "pet owners". Most pets owners did not willingly allow this to happen

  • @MIAndreois305

I SORRY IM NOT LEAVING WITHOUT MY FAMILY AND THAT MEANS MY DOGS, CHILDREN,CATS AND HUSBAND

  • @scorpion20112

Oh I agree with that in personal situation. I have a Yorkie, Maltese, & a Persian. I wouldn't dare leave their side. However; this doesn't change the fact that not everyone has the abilities & the means we have available to protect our animals in the face of a disaster. I have a working car, connections, & a clear mind. You probably do too....Some people aren't as lucky.

  • I lived in Louisiana and the troopers were told arrest anyone who gives you trouble.

Most pets were removed from their owners at evacuation points.

We learned after this to openly lie about having a pet in the car.

To never tell them the truth about anything due to the pets safety.

Why because people lie to each other kill each other and are just horrorific to each other.

Pets are the support many of us rely on during the rough times in our lives.

  • i wish i could do more then what i did i adopted a katrena dog

  • Omg thats so sad. i hope they try and save some and not leave them there i love dogs so much i have 3 thats so sad hearing dogs under wood crying in pain god i wish i can help you know i wish i an save them all but im only 1 person

  • aw this is bad! people should care for the animals they buy!

  • I don't know how this American Govt could allow this to happen to the people and animals. This is like in a 3rd world country. Sickening.

  • Haven't you heard? The government didn't know what was happening. George Bush was in Crawford giving a birthday party for John McCain.

  • I am white, and American, and I believe they planned it. Racial cleansing. It was a very dangerous area before the storm. All black and very dangerous and very poor. So it was to the gov'ts benefit that the levee "accidentaly" broke and flooded their homes. And incase anyone was planning on coming back, just leave them for a week, with no food, water, bathrooms, ets. And THEN they will really go wherever the bus takes them. BUSH IS A PIG.
