Im not a drummer at all, but it is best to kinda go by sound. I have never even been behind a drum set, but if you can train yourself to stomp right as you hear the previous one, you can go pretty fast easily. But then you have to be able physically, not only mentally.

I have had an electric drum set (Fuck, they are QUEER) and i can likely do double bass some 10 times a second, just not for long. I do the same while drumming, though i can't really explain what im thinking :P.

lol then when it actually gets to the part that requires double bass, ur not even consistent... i had this problem in the beginning.. just make up some exercises to make your double bass smoother..
