Very beautiful story, well written. I'm from a different culture and when I arrived in Egypt I was amazed at how close men were and how uncomfortable they were to relate to women. It is extremely sad what is happening in Saudi Arabia. Reading the book from an Eritrean immigrant point of view was so refreshing, You can feel its originality, nobody could have done it better. Congratulations!!

I lived in Jeddah around the same time, and went through Sudan to arrive to Jeddah around the same time with my family, went to school there also for a few years around the same time. I could relate so much to the story and the events and even had a blind imam come to our gilrls-only school...everything made sense to me...Wow! I could not put it down! Daring and couragious book! Beautiful!
Chosen as one of the books of the year by the New Statesman. Shortlisted for the prestigious Commonwealth prize. This novel is a brilliant subtle study of love, desire and sexuality in Saudi Arabia. The central love story is gripping, sensual. What I also loved about is that it masterly highlights the dire situation of immigrants in Saudi, as well as the budding homosexuality in a country that forbids contact between men and women when they are not married. Heartbreaking, Ironic and Kafkaesque!
woooooooow i just finished the book with three days of sinking in the beautifully crafted story of this awesome book ....i never dreamed such story ever happen in that black abbaya and white jelebiya world .
