I just got one of these for Christmas. I am having mine professionally polished and sharpened. I love it! I'll be reviewing mine when it gets back from the shop.
I'm so glad you did this review. I am getting this knife for Christmas from my wife and this is the only video review I have seen on it. Your vid makes me want it even more.
Excellent Video. I have bought a KHHI Max xtream which is a bigger version of your American Eagle. Superb knife but heavy at 2lbs. As you say it chops like an axe. Also bought a Service No5 Ultimate and a Chukuri from Kukuri House Thamel. The only thing I would add is that if these are to be used think about getting them unpolished, they scratch less and the original temper is better maintained. Polishing does soften the edge a tad. Also got a show blade from KH Thamel, also fantastic.
I just became a Distributor for Khukuri House this year. I am in Texas.
If you ever need one, I can get them at a bit lower cost. I just sold my last Defender yesterday and have more coming in. Christmas hit me pretty hard with sales. These knives are solidly built and I am proud to represent them. I have pictures of them in Nepal making these.
Hey Spider, i love your videos, i was going to buy a kukri pretty soon and i'm stuck between this one (defender) and the 15' Victor. Any thoughts on this?
I just received my Defender and very happy with it. I'm not happy with the sheath as there isn't much retention. I think I'll be getting a custom kydex sheath for actual carry and saving the traditional sheath for display. I found a pic. on the web of a custom kydex sheath which also had two smaller sheaths attached to the front to which hold the sharpener and the smaller knife that come with it. I may have to post a video if I do so...
I like things that are made to work. Their real beauty is that they are built for work. So if they are not made for the show ring that is ok for me. I would rather have a dog who knows how to hunt not a dog who can win in the show ring.
is this thing to heavy for normal use like chopping small trees and branches??? because im thinking about getting the khhi victor kukri which is even heavier
I have large hands, just a tad larger than medium not massive and I was looking for a recomendation of which kukri to buy. I love the american eagle but the defender has a longer blade. I was looking for a good hunting knife that cuts through brush, vines, trees fairly well.
Which do you prefer? The defender or the american eagle?
I've just had my 15inch victor turned up. It's a brutal piece of steel! I'm a little disapointed with the finish though that was easly fixed. Money well spent
Cheers for the review mate, I'm waiting on a Defender for the last few days now with a cordura sheath, Khukuri House are a pleasure to deal with. Any hassle with customs getting this beast into the UK? I can imagine Irish customs will have a field-day with this one.
Great vid! Whats the name of the smaller khukri though ...the one you call 'you're fav all time knife' ...its gorgeous!! (...and where did u get it?) Thanx!
I just bought this blade a couple weeks ago and it is amazing. Ive taken it camping and found that it excells as an axe or a machete, though the weight makes prolonged chopping pretty tiresome.
As for the fit and finish you talked about, I did notice that the handle had slight burns and blemishes from the manufacturing process. But that gives the knife character more than anything. Overall ive found its a great outdoor tool and could indeed do some serious asskicking if the situation provided.
great video. Love the knife. Any thoughts on making a chopping demonstration video with the knife. I'm curious on how well it chops compared to your "freedom".
No I have not got hold of that one yet. Its on my list to buy. If its anything like the defender it will be a real beast. You need some real muscle to heft some of the big kukris. The big ones will take a head clean off.
Sorry for the horrid typographical errors XD Im thinking about getting that same model...i do alot of heavy chopping and my ex-army british golock has served me well but i need a step up teehee
Now that a knife! But I'd prefer a axe. that's just my opinion! Mainly because that's what Ive used for 30 years...haha! Great review man 5* for you :o)
Yer its always best to use what you know. Years ago I nearly took my leg out with one. I know kneel down if I am swinging an axe so if I miss it hits the ground not me.
For anyone who is put off by the large handle, you can ask KHHI to custom make you a smaller one, or just one with a smaller handle. KHHI makes excellent custom orders, they can do almost whatever you want.
I personally love the kukri but don't like the traditional handles much. I like the newer handles featured on the Victor, Max, and American Eagle kukris.

What would you think of having the Eagle handle on the Defender?
Aynarchist 1 year ago
The Defender model is made in Afghanistan. No Kauda (notch on the blade), dead give away. The other model is a Kukri House
DavidBeck1992 1 year ago
@DavidBeck1992 no its not. its just a different style blood dripper/notch. but its still a khhi product. they have other knives with a similar notch.

How much did that set you back?
codyfickes 1 year ago
@codyfickes Not much you can buy a Nepalese made one for around $50- $?00, but Cold Steel and other reproductions will cost maybe in the hundreds

I wouldn't be happy with that handle, just seems too slippery to keep hold of a 2kg piece of metal, especially with a sweaty hand.

For anyone who is put off by the large handle, you can ask KHHI to custom make you a smaller one, or just one with a smaller handle. KHHI makes excellent custom orders, they can do almost whatever you want.
