From a bit of basic research I've surmised that the MIDI implementation on the KP3 is full of bugs, or atleast that's what I hear. Many users, particularly on forums, have complained that the MIDI functin on the KP3 doesn't sync right with external units. Can anyone who has used this unit extensively confirm this? Aside from this quirk, I'm really considering getting this machine.
is so sad that i bought my kp3 for $400 at guitar center and the owners manual is shit! i mean it does shows the set up part but after that you left with the job of using it with out a clue of what you doing. the manual consist of about 89 pages in different languages, thanks to these folks at you tube you could get a good idea on how to operate it. i had learn to use the sampler and looping function but thats it. but is a nice piece of work with a good imagination you could do wonders.
is it fairly easy to sample in real time - i sing, use an electribe and synth at the same time - will this help me or make things more complicated??? thanks.
Im rockin an MPC2KXL. Im looking for an effects thing like this... Is this something I need or can I look for something else. I dont really need some of the features since ive already using a sampler.
They're completely different things. The KP3 is an effects pad with a basic sampler, the Kaossilator is basically a noise box with tons of dynamic sounds in it. The KP3 has some basic drum loops and synth sounds but nothing like you can get from the Kaossilator. It's really a DJ tool.
The problem with the Kaossilator is that it has no digital external connection so it only has limited use aside from playing around on.
The Kaossilator is portable but there is a portable version of the KP3 too.
That was a very helpful post thank you! Hmm. It seems like I am more interested in the Kaossilator. So basically what you are saying is that kp3 is used to alter music that was made on another source? And the Kaossilator is used to make the actual synths and sounds? So it would it be better to have a kaossilator and a mini pad or just a kp3?
Essentially yes. The problem with the Kaossilator is that you can't save any loops (once you turn the power off) and you can only record via phono (if you want to keep anything). It also difficult to recreate anything you produce. I've seen them used by some DJs for sound effects. Really fun to play with though. The KP3 is a more serious piece of kit (hence the price). I don't know about the mini-kp as I don't have one - it doesn't seem a KP3 replacement but is a compact/portable effects unit?
hey couldnt help but read your conversation. what im looking for is something that i can use to create music at one time and then save it and actually be able to use that live with my band, and then obivously be able to play around with it live. so im talking about something that i can use to create, save and alter (in real time) music. what would you recommend for these purposes? if you know anything that isnt korg thats obviously of interest as well.
"Big...sturdy....knobs..." rawr haha Voiceover lady loves those knobs!
But seriously, can someone tell me, how much better is this over a Kaossilator? I was thinking of getting one, but the KP3 seems to have a lot more features....
Are you able to record and loop the built in sounds by the KP3, much like the Kaossilator? Like use the drum feature and record it + loop it, then play samples etc. over top of it.
yeah i see..but can i compare it with mpc or mv or something?for making beats 4 example...never tried or seen the k pad ...am i able 2 rec whole tracks?or do i have 4 5 loops and only can mess around with them and put fx on it?

don't mean to sound ignorant, but since this is a sampler, doesn't it serve the same purpose as an akai MPC as far as sampling goes?

Can anyone tell me if you can put your own sounds on the KP3?
For example, can I connect it to a computer and create my own drum sounds etc?
glorplaxy 2 years ago
you can only rec 1 to 16 beat long loops. so basically you wont be able to do whole tracks with kp3 only.
