  • @JLE102191 Christians are the ones who re-wrote the pledge of allegiance. Learn some history, or at least read what a lot of other people are saying here, that the pledge of allegiance originally didn't have "under god" in it, and it was added much later in the 1950's.

When I first learned the Pledge of Allegiance, "under God" wasn't in it.

  • I am solidly anti organized religion. Believe what you want in private, then it doesn't bother me. But I am a patriot and take offense to any altering of the Pledge. Their omission of "under god" doesn't bother me so much, but for some reason it still does a little, just because they altered it -- I hate revisionists.

    However, their omission of "INDIVISIBLE" -- now THAT's infuriating !! I would expect the entire team who was responsible for this be sent to the long unemployment line.

  • @TheOnePistol America was founded specifically as a secular democracy, not a "Christian nation". Those who claim otherwise have fallen for right-wing propaganda. The founders were from generally white, Christian, Anglo-Saxon backgrounds but took pains to prevent the nation from being based on that or any other religion, guaranteeing rather that all religions are equally protected by law from dominance by others. You do history a disservice by spreading the "Christian nation" lie.

It wasn't an issue until the Christian Rightists tried to use that as evidence that America is a "Christian nation" -- a historical falsehood. For that reason, we should go back to the original wording. Atheists are loyal Americans too.

  • The original pledge, written by Francis Bellamy in 1892 didn't include the words, "under God". They were added in 1954. Bellamy was a Christian socialist, who wanted to add the words "equality and fraternity", but that wouldn't have been accepted by the Christian leaders of education in that day who didn't support equality of women or African Americans. So, to summarize, the pledge is the work of a socialist who couldn't mention equality because religious leaders would have rejected it. Hmm.

  • They also cut out "indivisible". another important part of the pledge that says we will not let anything divide our country again. Yes, everyone has differences of opinion, but we won't let that tear the country apart, or other countries that may try it either. The pledge was changed to include "under God, indivisible" for a reason - that's who we are. Taking God out of our schools & country is only going to bring us down. Altering our national pledge of allegiance should be forbidden.

But beliefs, religions, are being forced on people, on children before they have the comprehension to understand what is going on(like the Pledge of Allegiance), often by parents who bring their very young children to church every Sunday, thus indoctrinating them to the church system. It is truly unfortunate. Churches are great, beacons of community. But shoving religion upon others is wrong.

    There is no more condemnable waste of time than prayer. It allows you to feel like you've done something to help someone, without actually doing anything, thus plenty of Americans readily perform it.

    Prove there is a God? With a creation there must b a creator. Look @ the world. Or just look @ my changed life. 1 Day Jesus said come and follow me (in my heart), and I did. My life is changed. Before that the goverments tries 2 change me, schools, parents. But it does come down 2 faith. When I look around, use logic and the like. I don't have enough faith 2 belive there is no God.
