  • Jesus, I wish I had done this with my Poppy....yours seems like he was a really really great guy!! I'm so sorry for you loss...you're so lucky to have this documentry...the war stories are somethin; too...and beautiufl touch with Iron and Wine...

  • thanks! Yeah, it was a "lucky" situation where his mind was always sharp even when his body was failing him so I had a good opportunity to do something like this. The music is some Iron and Wine, some Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon), also there are a few Sufjan Stevens songs in there too.

    I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • I really did enjoy it. I think your Poppy would have liked my Poppy, haha...mine was born in 1926 in Newfoundland...he never did go to war, but his brothers did, and being in Newfoundland, he experienced the "brace" for German invasion. Mine also passed a year ago, and like yours was sharp and witty as a tack. Such age and character is so easy to miss. I love Sufjan...

He never did go to war, but his brothers did..and being in Newfoundland experienced the "brace" for German invasion during the war. The stories are great. And much like yours, mine was witty and sharp as a tack, long after his body had given up on him. Its so easy to miss dearly such age and character.

  • Very well done...McKeesport men are great to listen to, especially about WWII.

He truly was a nice guy.
