  • jerry may have been a nice guy but he put his name on writing credits when he wrote nothing of it. eddie would look at a recored of his and c jerry's name on it and say whaat. he let it go tho cause they were good friends.

  • Hi, I recall being glued to the radio when this series aired. Was the original voice/narration heard in Canada, or was another voice dubbed in to satisfy content rules? In any case, an extremely well written and presented series, essential listening for anyone too young to have been there. Cheers

  • @charlyW34

this is the original audio and this is the real Jerry Capehart interviewed. I confirmed it with Glen Glenn, friend of Eddie Cochran

  • Totally fascinating bit of pop history.

  • Bill Drake is a legend of the radio!!!

  • Wes and I posted this video on our blog a while back. Now we are part of the "WHERE IS PETER JAMES?" party. We posted what Wes knows of Peter James, who recorded on Jerry Capeheart's private lable in the early 1960's. I was wondering if you might know, or if there is any mention on the documentary you wrote? Christine Trzyna.

  • the king

  • Eddie Cochran lives forever in out hearts

  • Jerry was my dad's cousin. He was a very nice man. We visited him at his home in Missouri. He is gone now, too.

  • You may keep that Elviscreature! Eddie Cochran is the true legend! Cochran 4 ever!

  • If any one musician was wasted by dying to soon it was definitely Eddie. Imagine what he could've done if he was only to live as long as Elvis Presley. He was very talented and it's just not fair that he had to go. Some things aren't meant to be.

  • Capehart's comment about Eddie "supposed to have been on the plane with Buddy Holly" is curious. Capehart must be speaking figuratively regarding Eddie's sadness at losing his friends Buddy and Richie. Eddie was not on the Winter Dance Party Tour in which Buddy Holly died. Buddy, Tommy Allsup, and Waylon Jennings were the original seat holders. Tommy lost his seat to Richie Valens on a coin toss. Waylon gave his seat to the Big Bopper, who had the flu from riding the un-heated bus.

  • No He was meant to go on the tour but left at the last minute as his saw the weather troubles coming and decided to stay in LA.

  • Eddie was lucky to live for another year. It just wasn't to be.

  • Yes, I do agree with you on that. As far as I know, Eddie was not supposed to go on the death flight. The coin game exactly involved those two guys named Tommy and Waylon who saved their lived. Who knows what Jerry Capehhart had in his mind when he made this announcement in the interview.

  • @AjaxEddiefan I think you will find Eddie was going to be on that tour,he was pulled off at the last minute I suppose that was what Jerry was getting, could it be possible that he would have flown with Buddy as they were such good friends. Just a thought. Read the book dont forget me by Darrel Higham andJulie Munday. Also Sharon Sheeley mentions the fact that Eddie was pulled off that show in the BBC prog Three Steps to Heaven

  • I remember when summertime blues came out, and I've always thought Eddie really had that "something special". Not just your ordinary rock and roller (if there's such a thing). I'm so touched that he wrote that song about another extremely special "rocker" Buddy Holly. Boy these guys had something going on here, I think, and it's so special to hear "Jerry Capehart", talking about the behind the scenes stuff. Marc Trainor.

  • great memories thanx

  • Hey -- I wrote this! The audio is lifted from the 52-hour "History of Rock 'n' Roll" which I wrote and co-produced in 1978. I also conducted the interview with the now late Jerry Capehart, who also write "Turn Around, Look At Me." You should hear Capehart's comments that DIDN'T make the show. The narrator heard here is Bill Drake. -- Gary Theroux

  • Thanks so much Gary,

this was the best comment ever!

    I love this interview

  • wow u wrote it u r famous! did u know eddie?

  • Where IS Bill Drake now...and when will "The

History of Rock and Roll" re-air?

  • >mirlimirli< thanks a lot for this tribute to this tooo young gone giant rocker EDDIE

  • The Mans a legend. 21yrs old. What a waste. Light years ahead of his time.
