  • Dave really liked Warren and Warren once said Dave and his show was one of best things to ever happen to his music. I believe Warren and Dave were real friends not fake hollywood stuff. RIP Warren......

  • @jemason3 -I believe that also. Mutual respect what real friends are about.

  • Wonderful tribute.

    Thanks for posting....love Warren!!

  • Every song that Warren wrote told a story. Allot of them referred to his own life, experiences, and his fallibilities. Not many rock and roll writers, and performers were ever as honest, and forthright as Zevon. Warren did not have a monsterous ego. He was a down-to-earth lyricist, writing about "everyday trials, and tribulations". We will all miss "The Real Deal".

  • enjoy EVERY sandwich

  • happy birthday wz.thx for the tunes

  • . . . 2morrow is the date of your birth and my shitz fucked upped also Warren

  • Enjoy every sandwich. RIP Warren

  • I can remember in the 90s, Letterman would always go on about this guy Warren Zevon. I had always known Werewolves of London, but not much else. It is because of David Letterman that I would eventually become a fan of Warren Zevon's work. The way Dave explains the music and the lyrics, it is exactly the same feelings I have always had. Warren was such a talent, and the best part was that he was not afraid to be different than the rest of the rock n roll world...that is what made him so cool.

  • Love you Warren. You are sorely missed.

  • When I was little my Dad took me to see Warren... Always enjoyed his work. He is missed. RIP WZ... My prayers are with you.

  • Wonderful and touching.

  • First and foremost "Thank You" Warren Zevon addict! I was blessed to see him live one time, carefree Theatre in West Palm Beach, Fl. It's mentioned in the book on page 311. Also I'm from Youngstown,Ohio so Boom-Boom Mancini has a special place in my heart along with Warren! (actually I'm from Warren Oh, How ironic is that! Be BLESSED my Zevon Brothers and sisters!!1

  • Great Video! Warren inspires me so much. I am so thankful that I have a great father who took the time to introduce me to the Zeeve! Love and miss you,Warren! you will never be forgotten!

  • Think I'll pour myself a stiff drink, kick back, and turn the radio dial to Mohammed's Radio. Luv ya Warren

  • remember - enjoy every sandwich.

    RIP Warren

  • I have mixed emotions about Zevon's death. In most respects I wish he wasn't dead, but it took the hoopla around his death before I heard anything of his but "Werewolves of London" at Halloween.

I'm sad he is dead, but very grateful I now know his "Genius"

  • warren was in a very special class of singer songwriter, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Neil Young, Springsteen - am I missing anyone? Maybe throw in Lyle Lovett

  • @scottay69 Tom Petty

  • I saw Warren twice as a solo act; once in Newark DE at the Deer Park Tavern in early 90's and once in Chicago before that at a time and place I don't recall any more, kinda like he doesn't recall doing his Stand in the Fire Live album. Enjoyed both shows but I have always wished I would have watched him at least once with a whole band, preferably with his long time bud Waddy Watchtel on guitar. Good stuff, not tailored for mass consumption by the idiots.

  • THANK YOU for this! I always Loved Zevon on Letterman. What a great piece of history! RIP Warren!

  • One of my biggest regrets is that I never was able to see Zevon live.

  • @archer1949 Me too. I'll just have to try to content myself with watching the live performances on YT.

  • @archer1949 I'm sorry for you. I was lucky enough to see him at least a dozen times over the years. Usually at the front of the stage. Now I can hardly listen to him without crying. I suddenly remind me of my mom listening to Nat King Cole.

  • I'll tell you what it was, Warren Zevon was not just an Entertainer, he was a man who told stories about warriors and hell raisers, That man was a pistol! He wasnt politically correct or liberal and by enjoying a sandwich its to savor every moment in life! EVERY Moment! Nothing's gauranteed gang..Life's a bitch, But it can be a hell of a fine lady if you do it right and treat it right!

  • yes just great.!

  • somehwere out there, along some mountain range that isnt particularly cared about they should make a memorial like Mt Rushmore to all the greatest rockers of the ages, and call it MT ROCKMORE!

  • Kudos to Letterman for being such an upfront and upstanding guy!

  • I'm sorry to hear that; I just heard it, just now. Bummer. Great musician and lyricist! Check out my music and activism at Musicians4Freedom(dot)com. Peace, Ven

  • I grew up loving Warren, saw him perform live without a band at phoenix hill in Louisville KY in 1987. To this day it is one of the best shows I have ever seen. Warren understood the plight and struggles of the working man and it came through in his lyrics. I wish he had enjoyed more commercial success but I am sure that was exactly why he was so great. RIP Warren

  • Yea those sandwichs and bullets and round wire rim glasses will be part of my life forever until my arrives as well. I think I hear the sound of an engine running outside my front door...

  • My introduction to Warren was through Carmelita - I was 14 and thought what a beautiful song...and it still is - in that amazingly twisted Warren-way. Now that I'm (much) older, I can appreciate the lines like..."the county won't give me no more methadone and they cut off your welfare check". Miss & love you Warren - yeah = I drank up all the money too.

  • Allways rememberd to enjoy every sandwich...very wise words...........enjoy the little things each day..

  • Thanks for posting this, Alain. I watched this show the night it was broadcast. A very lovely tribute to an amazing person.

  • "b praised my lord thru sister death." -st francis of assisi

    Godspeed Warren Zevon

  • A great, heartfelt tribute to a rare kind of genius. Read 'I'll Sleep When I'm Dead' by Crystal Zevon for a no-holds-barred biography, encouraged by Warren himself before he died.

  • this is why you write music/poetry for feeling and release.

  • screw the r@r hof IF YOU BELEAVE IN FOREVER THAN LIFE IS JUST ONE NIGHT STAND AND THEN WARREN STRIKES UP THE BAND

    WHEN

WARREN STRIKES UP THE BAND YEAH !!!!!!!!!!

  • David Letterman with Paul Shafer gave a good running eulogy of Warren Zevon, who as is said was a good friend of Letterman's and Shafer's, who Warren Zevon filled in for on the show on several occasions, and dedicated quite a lot of time to Warren's memory explaining some Warren Zevon's history in this video, which only goes to show you that Messrs Letterman and Shafer are decent men who don't forget their friends. Very good. Rest easy, Warren Zevon

  • The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sounds impressive, but it's a joke. A complete and utterly worthless joke. I can't believe that someone as wickedly intelligent, sardonic and subversive as Warren Zevon would have a problem not being included there.

  • Enjoy Every Sandwich.

  • I think we're lucky that Warren got to see his grandkids. From what I've read, the doctors gave him 6 months and he lasted more than a year.

    RIP, Mr. Bad Example.

  • Warren might not get as many hits as some of these newcomers, but he sure deserves to be appreciated. On a side note this is exactly why Dave Letterman and Paul Shaffer are 2 of the best in their calling in life.

  • Brings tears to my eyes. They don't make 'em like Zevon anymore.

  • "Eventually the heavens will sweep down over earth and collect every soul and once again we will be reunited in eternal happiness"

  • It was very respectful for David to tribute Warren this way.Warren was loved so much more than he could have ever realized.

  • My whole family mom and dad my sona nd me lu that song

  • I loed werewoles of london

  • I want Letterman to eulogize me.

    Zevon was GREAT.

  • Sure miss that guy.

  • Very moving indeed. That must have been hard for Dave, he's a pro's pro too. If I heard right Warren gave Dave his guitar which is a very old and cherished music tradition.

  • Dude, thank you so much for posting this. I woke up from emergency surgery to this. I had lost 17 units of blood in the course of 18 hours and I somehow knew that by the time I was released from the hospital, he'd be gone. I was 18 years old at the time.. what a way to spend the summer after graduating high school, eh? I had never cried over the passing of a "star" or whatever you'd call Warren... but my God.... when I heard he was gone, I sobbed like a Goddamned baby. Thanks again for this, man

  • @davidlabelle361 My man, I was introduced to Warren when I was 18 in 1986. I was fortunate to meet him and ask him a question. I think he'd want you to be strong. Tears are rolling at all the good memories Z brought me. His music is without reproach.

  • thank u, alain, for so many great warren videos...i had been dreading to watch this particular one...david paid a great tribute..rest in peace, warren, u r still greatly missed and loved by many.

  • warren zevon, ages like good wine and cheese.

  • Alain, you totally rock. Thank you for so many good Warren memories.

  • The man needs to be in the R&R Hall of Fame.

Listen to The Hockey Song, you can hear Letterman in the background, pretty cool

  • Thanks for sharing Alain. This was a great tribute. I know it is hard to say good-bye to a special friend but David Letterman did it in a very moving way. Warren Zevon was a great musician.

  • Wonderful tribute show for Warren. :) Glad that Letterman honored him. Janet

  • Gone...

    The King is dead.

    Long live the King.

  • No one beats Letterman when paying tribute.... This and his tribute to Johnny Carson and Paul Newman when they died are examples of what am saying :)

    Long live Dave...

  • tragic news! a great musician. peace2u! eric
