Lastly, I will say I am proud FOR manny pacquiao and charice but not "pinoy pride" because the entertainers SHOULD NOT be our source of national pride. We value the glitz and glamour over intellect. Collective Success - Man on the Moon, it's the work of the whole nation. American pride? YES!
Individual Success - Britney Spears that's it, her success is hers alone.
@thefirstnoelforever You are wrong. The topic is "pinoy pride" NOT Maria Aragon. I never said anything bad about her. In fact, I haven't said anything bad about Maria Aragon, Charice, Pacquiao or whoever made it big in other countries. I'm focusing on the filipinos constant usage of "PINOY PRIDE". All of my comments are about "pinoy pride" and examples of why it is so superficial to use. Why it should not be use to an individual alone.
@TheMrsWhiskers My excuse Mrs Whiskers, but i haven't said anything about u making bad comments about those Filipinos u mentioned. Now ur saying about "pinoy pride", so did i miss understood ur 1st comment? is that what ur saying? Please don't removed your comments. Let's be fair.
First, where is the INSULT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT? Make sure that you ANSWER the first question! Secondly, do you even know the difference between INDIVIDUAL success and COLLECTIVE SUCCESS? If you check Greyson Chance's video singing Papparazi NOT ONE of the commenters ever said "american pride, yey!" or britney spears video with "american pride!" why? because theirs is INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS. Clearly people of different nationality knows this.
@TheMrsWhiskers don't get so affected Mrs Whiskers, it's just a quote. okay, so what's ur question again? oh i forget, i'm dumb. sorry about that. INDIVIDUAL - COLLECTIVE.. that's too broad for me to absorb. ah! how about this, do u think Roger Federer celebrates alone? Swiss nationals not proud of him? Or 2010 world cup winner SPAIN? Spaniards, were u not proud? or how about u Mrs Whiskers? when u get promoted, u celebrate it alone? nobody's proud of u right? coz u do it alone eh?
@thefirstnoelforever You made a quote so I asked you about it and your funny answer is: don't get so affected? You clearly cannot stand by your words. I already made examples and clearly you still cannot tell the difference between Collective and Individual Success . You don't even know what I mean by: I am proud FOR Manny and Charice. It's no use to talk to you.
The truth is Pinoy pride only exists because we think ourselves to be inadequate. . – diokno
@TheMrsWhiskers because i find ur examples irrelevant or shall i say leading to another topic so i stated some examples which are more related to our discussion. but it's not acceptable to u then so be it. about that "man on the moon" of course, i agree. btw, what is the whole point?
u r entitled to ur own opinion Mrs Whiskers. no one is stopping u.
@TheMrsWhiskers yeah there's no use of talking to me. but thanks anyway. just an ordinary person with ordinary ideas and opinion. u r up there Mrs Whiskers. who knows one of these days, u will make us Filipinos proud of u also.. or if any of ur family members make it big up there, we are going to be proud of it. if i'm not around then, millions of Filipinos will be there.. Good day Mrs Whiskers! Make us proud!
U do have a point there. But not all Filipino's are like that so don't generalize us.. don't be selfish guys.. Credits to her parents, bro and sis.. and of course to her cousin who's taking her video and uploading it in youtube hoping that someday Maria will be notice... and it's happening right now.. because of u, me, them and all people watching her... and u should take credit for that... we are happy for her success... Don't be selfish... She's sharing her talent. We r sharing our support..
@thefirstnoelforever If I will go by your premise that means I should also take credit for the success of Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook, Steve Chen's YouTube, Bill Gate's Microsoft and Steve Job's Apple, after all they are sharing their talent in so many ways. How come I don't see Filipinos saying "It's YouTube Pinoy Pride, Yey!!! "?
@TheMrsWhiskers i'm sorry. i'm too dumb to understand what is your point. aren't you proud if your company won in a sports feast? or ur school in an inter-school competition? or ur community awarded as most of the most kkkkk? or etc.. etc.. i guess ur not. coz my examples are so lame, right? Whatever Mrs Whiskers.. whatever.. u can't stop the Filipinos for being proud of Maria.. it's already in my blood and Filipinos blood.
insult doesn't give u an edge... it's a sign of defeat.
@thefirstnoelforever more than 32 million viewed Greyson Chance's video. I went up to 51 page looking for "american pride" and I saw only ONE saying "you're parents must be so proud!". No racial issues whatsoever. These are entertainers and talent knows no nationality or race. Saying "Pinoy Pride" over this is just instilling false patriotism while if you look around us you see our country wallowing in mud and nobody even cares. I do not see a GENUINE "pinoy pride" in us.
Maria has a talent. THANKS TO HER PARENTS for nurturing that talent. Credit should go to Maria for her HARD WORK and to her parents for their SUPPORT. The Filipino community should never ever claim credit on her success BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!
I am a Filipino and I am realistic. We should NOT be proud of something WE have no contribution of! There's a big difference between INDIVIDUAL and COLLECTIVE SUCCESS. Let's just be happy for her and HER ALONE!!!
After all this hoopla in about a month's time (give or take), her "15 minutes of fame" will all be forgotten. Then she can be a regular kid again and grow up to finish her studies.

@YannaStengos I agree with you. I don't understand why a lot of my fellowmen cannot understand the logic behind this. It's just sad.

@TheMrsWhiskers Maria Aragon - that's the topic. I'd like to focus on that. So no further comments on your 2nd statement. That's another issue.
