director does not have the hardest job....they dont have to wrap cables and pack a truck up. Intellectual work is a different thing but manual labor will always be more difficult. Director or ditch digger hmmmm?
Obviously there's much more to it and yes the sound was low but he's right about everything he said. ESPECIALLY COVERAGE! I just AD'd a 10 day shoot and I know we didn't get enough coverage but I was fighting a losing battle...

can you use a real police department in your film and have actors act as real police for that police department or would you need a permit first? same for a public high school, can you use a real public high school and display their logo and have actors act as students or would you need a permit?
Not sure I agree for an independent film. You need to have an idea of where and how you want something but I believe the main thing is moving along and not spending time on storyboards you may not use once you get to your location. Let your instincts take over once you are at your location. and build on the ideas you had in your head. Stay fresh.
Didn't bother watching most of the video. If you're giving advice on filmmaking, the video in which you do so should reflect your talent. If this reflects your talent, I don't want to take your advice.
i make movies all the time my latest i uploaded is "the christmas killer" its not wat it sounds like but yah its on my channel if anyone wants to give me feedback
thats it you dont have to its upto you to or not to lol. the world has changed forget about IMDB if was on there you want to believe him just because hes on a site.
are you currently in a project. because i am currently pursuing becoming a writer and I want to write a stroyline/script for the Cather in the Rye. If there are any directors up to the project please contact me.
I am pursuing to become a writer, do you have any projects you are working on, because I have an idea for a movie that i could right the script to. Would you consider it? We all have to start somewhere
You shouldn't direct an editor, at least not a half decent one, because quite often they see something that you do not... people who have used a good editor would know what i'm talking about. ...
true a good editor may see something that you do not but they also (left alone) might give your film a entirely different pace than what you originally intended, personally i either edit myself or sit in like martin does with thelma. lol
Rhett first thing surely is to understand the narrative and be able to exoress and explain that narrative vis shot selection etc yea? A bit like teaching, making sure you have at least some props or visuals to help guide those you're instructing..
You just strike me as somebody going through the motions, saying the right things but offering nothing, sorry.
Fie on both your houses... the toughest jobs on set are the miserable whipping boys that the main star, producer, and director always seem to have on hand for when their noses get out of joint!
but Rhett sounds like quite a foreign name. The name John is very western. And reiger? sounds even more foreign. Maybe he is related but it can't be very close. I understand where you're coming from, i was flicking through a magazine and there was a picture of a person that looked exactly like me. no relation though
He might be a cousin on the mother's side or something. I have a second cousin with a Chinese father and last name. But, since the guy hasn't responded by now, they are probably not related.
Great advice, thanks. I agree, the Director has the most difficult job on set..before he/she even steps on set a good director will know what he/she wants and how to get in a way that can pull the best from the actors and crew..not only that he or she should have all the grammer down for that same reason to understand everyones role so you can draw from there talent, you need patiants and a lot of coffee. Your so right hen it come to visualization, storyboards help me a lot and the shot list.

Glory for what? Producers give money to director to make a movie... and than the director put money in his pocket by distribuing the film... You wanna talk about a hard job getting no glory or money?; scenario writters
Never use the built in mic, sounds like s**t use a lavalier or a shotgun, you're teaching "how to make films" using a built in mic? nobody is gonna trust you.
The content of your videos and your intention of teaching are good,
but if you wanna be serious use a GOOD mic for god's sake, oh and attach the paper you are reading from, close to the lens of the camera (like a teleprompter)so when you read you are looking at the camera not down at your hands.
I want to be a director as well. I have been to college now and i am trying to get into film school. I have directed some small productions, and been a part of some big ones. Are you from UK?
The volume of this video needs to be increased.
