Ancient Greeks believed that dancing was invented by the Gods and therefore they had associated it with their religious and worshipping ceremonies. They believed that the Gods offered this gift to some select mortals only, who in turn taught dancing to their fellow-men.
Greek mythology attributes the origin of dancing to Rea who taught this art to Kourites in Crete. Kronos had dethroned his father Uranus. Since he was afraid that he might also be dethroned by his own children, he was eating them as soon as they were born. His wife Rea, however, deceived Kronos when their last child Zeus was born.
Well, it's Greek Cyprus to be more specific, so evidentially it is still Greek- but that would be more of a generalisation so you're probably correct in narrowing it down to Cyprus.
Are we legends or what!!!!! Tell me!!! Greece for ever!!!

I don't know if it's Greek... it was used in Michael Flatley's "Lord of the Dance" which was based on Irish dancing.

Absolutely true. It's Irish !

I just realized that he said "welcome to the stage... Mr. Staveros Flatley!" haha, it's a total takeoff on Lord of the Dance.

I think that's Cypriot dancing, not Greek dancing.
There's like a difference in the steps or something.

I think it's that the steps are 12 (or something around that) not 9 like in Greek dancing.
54John54Cena54 2 years ago
Yeah, you are probably right. I wouldn't have been able to pick that up :p
