  • By the way, it is good to see a real man. Even if he never drank, he would still be a real man. Not like more and more men are not today.

  • Excellent interviewer, he came well prepared and knowledgeable as to details. It was probably a joy for Lee Marvin compared to most Hollywood interviewers.

Mr, Marvin is a class act and a war hero.

  • The Guy who Interviewed Lee Marvin on these Clips, Knows His Stuff, I take my hat off to him.

    James.

  • The studios never had to manufacture Marvin into what he became in the fashion of lets say Duke Wayne who,s persona at least was a manufactured product. Marvin was what he was nothing more nothing less and he prospered by being just that, himself. The granite face the gravel voice combined to make him the heavys heavy one might say so utterley believable in his roles and all done so easily or at least thats how it came over, an icon the like of which we will never see again.

  • Glad that fuckin' old fart is dead!

  • @essanay45 What makes you say stuff like that?

  • He comes across as a real nice guy.....easy going....no BS.

Well done Lee.....all the fame and money never got to you......

Lee would have most likely been exactly this way had he decided to be a brick layer over an actor....

  • OK-ok, nevermind: I just found out the original title was "Emperor of the North POLE," since the hobo's of the day declared that whoever was the kingpin train-hopper during the depression would be the ruler of a vast wasfeland, a la the North Pole.

  • Why does everyone, including this interviewer, insist on adding the word "Pole" to the movie title, "Emperor of the North?" It was and is a great movie: let's not confuse the issue by misquoting the title. Make it easier for people to find this vid, or DVD and rent it, so we can ALL enjoy what good filmmaking is.

  • Boy he looks OLD...tough guy yes, but boy, smoking and hard drinking KILLS you...he's only like 60 here...looks 80!!!

  • unique talent. no one remotely like this dude

  • they dont make actors like this anymore

  • The Hunted is one of my all time favorite movies....Lee Marvin & Charles Bronson were great in the film.

  • thanks for this a real man who became an actor

  • Thank you Ira H. Gallen Video Resources, I look forward to seeing 'Attack!' and 'Emperor of the North Pole'. Two of the best from two of the greatest. Especially Aldrich - what a marvel was his cannon, some of the best ever in my eyes: ' Ulzana's Raid' ' Emperor of the North Pole ' 'The Legend of Lylah Clare ' ' What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?' 'The Last Sunset' 'Vera Cruz' 'Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte' ' Kiss Me Deadly' 'Hustle' 'The Grissom Gang' ' The Flight of the Phoenix' unique
  • one of the best ACTORS ever!

  • Attack was a superb film. Probably Aldrich's best war movie.

  • Why is everyone putting down "The Dirty Dozen"? It's a great movie, who cares if everyone was too old. I saw it at the drive in when I was was 11 years old and it blew me away. It may not be Aldrich's best movie of all time, but it's damn good, and deserves some respect here from you pussy's.

  • EMPEROR OF THE NORTH POLE is one of the best movies of the 70ies, one you can watch every few years and be thrilled by everything: the actors, their acting, the script, the music, the scenery, the photography, the tight direction, ...

This is a true classic! Aldrich made many great movies, this might be his best ever.

A pity Mr. Marvin doesn´t talk about this one for a lengthy time, I would have many questions about this classic.

  • It was much better than The Dirty Dozen.

  • Absolutely!

I do like THE DIRTY DOZEN, but in the Aldrich-oevre there are a handful even better movies, EMPEROR, LONGEST YARD, ULZANA´S RIAD, TOO LATE THE HERO and FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX.

Aldrich was in his movie-making prime in the first half of the 60ies, a wise old man doing what he can do best. :-) I give the above ones either a 9 or even a 10 in the IMDB-rating-scale, DIRTY DOZEN I give a 7 to 8.

  • I found out recently that Marvin himself didn't care taht much for The Dirty Dozen, he joked about a middle-aged group of men going off to war. I like to watch Emperor of the North about twice a year, it's quite a beautifully shot film and a great allegory for the time in which it was set.

  • "I'm only in dummies. The Dirty Dozen was a dummy moneymaker, and baby, if you want a moneymaker, get a dummy."

EMPEROR is indeed much more than meets the eye, one of the best scripts Aldrich ever had. Peckinpah was involved in the story-development, but I don´t think he could have made more of it.

The other must-see picture on the depression era is HARD TIMES aka STREET FIGHTER, with Bronson in his most zen-like acting style, just plain wonderful. I seee each of them app. 1/year.

  • he blew my mind in ship of fools.

    legend.

  • Aldrich was amazing, i have every film of his on dvd

  • peterfirthfan-- i never hear you pick on sissy boys like jack black or brad pitt or ben affleck--who recently did a gay scene in a movie he did about a george reeves -who played superman on tv

  • Tarantino would have LOVED working with Marvin !

  • Wish it was him instead of Pitt in BAsterds

  • The only guy who could have played Quint in Jaws.

"Sometimes they'd go away......sometimes they wouldn't go away....."

  • ? Lee Marvin was not in Jaws...

  • sorry, the only OTHER guy

  • robert shaw was the guy that played quint however Lee Marvin was spielberg's first choice

  • da shit

  • The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and The Dirty Dozen should be showed to all American school children in the 9th grade.

  • Yeah, but sadly they wouldn't pay any attention

Look at the movies out nowadays

  • The Dirty Dozen is overlong and dated, and all the actors were too old. Marvin himself hated the film.

  • Robert Aldrich was a kick ass director who told it like it was (Ulzana's Raid). He Directed 5 different actors in Oscar-nominated performances: Victor Buono, Bette Davis, Agnes Moorehead, Ian Bannen and John Cassavetes. He wasnt about glamourizing American Myths...he was about exploding them, and revealing what really matters.

  • For you kids out there who have never heard of Lee Marvin,

This is a "REAL MAN ALERT".

Lee was a WWII hero, knocked out of action via injury on Saipan, was well known to have the ability to kick about anyone's ass with his bare hands, and was one of the greatest actors ever. The stars of that generation were authentic ringers, not like the pussy actors and wanna be gangstas of today.

  • Fucking A!! Happy birthday Lee Marvin! I'll might go watch "Monte Walsh" or "The Spikes Gang"...

  • Damn right. Just imagine: Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Jude Law, plus Russell Crowe, at their ages today, vs. John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and Lee Marvin IN THEIR EFFING 60's. It would be no contest. The "real men" would crush the girlie-actors, whether at movie-making, fighting, drinking or, uh, amour. Although I do believe the old stars would let Crowe mix their drinks. But they'd be so disgusted by the other three girlie-boys that they wouldn't permit them in their presence.

  • @wheelinthesky300 Just saw Point Blank yesterday.

  • how many cigs does he smoke in this entire interview? Fucking badass

  • Pity he didn't get cancer of the larynx.

  • @JohnRogersly Why is that a pity? Why would SAY something like that? I simply don't understand what would motivate you. I mean, it's the same thing as someone saying to you, "Hey, you're such an asshole, it's a pity you don't get rectal cancer." See? Simply mean-spirited and pointless.

  • poor guy was struggling to breath in this interview gets thats what smoking does!!

  • You pussy! Smoking really isn't that bad. Look at Marvin, he's OLD and he's a smoker!

  • He wasn't old.

  • Mr MARVIN remind's me of my late father

a man of diffent age you will not see his

like's again rest in peace sir

  • Wow.....14 days to shoot the fight in Emperor of the North. It was worth it. "Shack....Your fights up here"

  • Lee was beautiful!!!!

  • Stupid fuckin cigs!!!
