  • My uncle is related to Rene

  • Never mind

  • Whats the song called

  • I ship out next week. I hope these men guide me.

  • very beautiful video!

  • BANZAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII...

  • 22,000 views, and this has been up for about 5 years. My pathetic generation.

  • I am related to Rene Gagnon. he was my great grandfather's cousin

  • @Crazychris1596 Rene Gagnon was my great great grandfather on my dad's side

  • @camman44 Wow. I am related to Rene on my dad's side aswell.

  • Comment removed

  • @Crazychris1596 cool were you surprised when you found out about if you don't mind me asking

  • @Crazychris1596 Cool by the way i think Rene fought valiantly at Iwo Jima.

  • Those who are demonstrated at military people's funerals should be charged with TREASON. There is a time when freedom of speech goes beyond it's meaning. GOD BLESS our TROOPS

  • I hate Marines but my friend got the CMH on Iwo. His name was Doug Jacobson. He killed about 82 japs.

    Rich O'Neill

    RHSC

  • I will gladly follow in their footsteps coming summer.

  • Great Video.. that guy top-center was my Uncle.. Rene' Gagnon..

  • @berkelusa You should be proud to have been related to Rene Gagnon who seemed to be the one who watched out for Ira Hayes when he was troubled with the "war demons" after the war. God bless to all those who fought in WWII who are now leaving us to meet up with those who went before.

  • @berkelusa seriously??? ur uncle is rene?

  • @Douglas217 - Yes Sir.. Was my Grandmothers Cousin.. a second Uncle if you will.. Met him once when I was about 11/12..

  • "We wern't heros there was a flag going up and we just happend to be there" -John Bradley USN

  • @Eddyisrich403 Very true, most of em agreed with this. They just "happened to be there".

  • I am related to Franklin Sousley, I always do research about him. He is my distant cousin.

  • So military segregation back then didn't apply to Indians? Something I've wondered since learning of Ira.

  • Bravo! Great video. It choked me up. I wish more people were patriotic.

  • this is amazing and what is with Harlon Block's commemorance plate in Ira Hayes' picture gallery?

  • what is the name of the song?

  • some of these guys died right before the war ended.

  • Motorhead, Great job. I loved how you removed the flag raisers in the order of when they died. My dad, brother and I just rode 4 hours yesterday to visit Franklin Sousleys grave. It was an awesome ride and a humbling memorial. Thanks.

  • What happened in Hiroshima & Nagasaki wasnt nice, i dont see any reason to be proud of this.

  • @fiscornioman You obviously have done no homework on the subject. An invasion of mainland Japan would have cost possibly hundreds of thousands American lives.

  • ... and the fact that the mainland Japan invasion wasnt done, costed the japanese side other hundreds of thousands of Japanese lives.

    INNOCENT lives, mostly.

  • @fiscornioman Like I said, do some research. There's a great book that you should read called"The Rape of Nanking" I believe someone like yourself, who is concerned with destroying innocent lives, would find this very interesting.

  • The Nanking event was atrocious and very sad, but still, it doesnt justify the death of millions of innocent people.

The bombings made by the US army arent a thing to be proud of.

A lot of Japanese people that died that day, were against his own government, and children, women and men were punished for no reason.

Can you really approve what happened? are you really, REALLY proud of what happened that day?

  • @fiscornioman They were warned. Then they ignored the first bomb so we dropped a second. Am I proud? War in general isn't something to be proud of. But when it comes down to my team or the other team, I root for the Home team. You want to talk about innocent lives? Do we start with the bombing of Pearl Harbor? How about the Holocaust? Lenningrad? All innocent people. Dropping those bombs saved American lives and shortened the war. Plain and simple.

  • If the germans finally could have bombed the US with nuclear weapons, that would have been one of the most tragic and savage episodes in human history.

But... the bombings in Japan were just a way to "shorten" the war and end the problem from the root.

    The victor writes the story.

  • Comment removed

  • Im not a military expert, i dont know what could have been done to end that situation, but the thing i know is that the US had a far superior strategic advantage in that moment, and maybe the war would have been longer, but that innocent people wouldnt have died for no reason.

The thing i hate about all this is the "Hip Hip Hurrah, we are the good boys" feeling that America loves to experience all the time, while they did what they did.

There is no excuse at all to feel proud of this.

  • Comment removed

  • You are so fanatic that just cant separate a GOVERNMENT from a POPULATION.

You look at Japanese people like Germans looked at Jews.

ALL are ugly, scary and with bad intentions.

    God Bless America?

The bombings of H and N were a mass murder, a war crime.

The imposition of fascist dictatorships in South America during the cold war to fight the leftist movements brought millions of deaths.

All ex-nazi scientists worked for the US when Germany lost.

    Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan...

  • @fiscornioman Now I'm starting to see your true color. Was it your great grandfather, Won Sum Cock, that was killed or are you just an Nip with a big imagination? HA HA

  • No, im not, i have no relation at all with the japanese, im from spain, but your comment shows no respect at all for the innocent people who died that day.

Youre the kind of American that makes America what is today:

    A fucking piece of crap.

  • @fiscornioman Spain!?! Are you kidding me? You guys are the biggest pussies on the planet. You didn't help in WW1 or WW2. What a load of bullshit. Your country does NOTHING, then you judge others. Fuck You.

  • Unfortunately, Spain legitimate government was overthrown by fascism (Franco) and also he couldnt "help" in WW2 because the country was fucked up due to the civil war.

Why the US army didnt liberated Spain?

Because they saw a potential strategic ally for the upcoming cold war, we still have american airfields here.

Lots of people died assasinated and tortured by Franco's regime, with the passivity of the Allies (US included).

More things to be ashamed of.

  • @fiscornioman I'd be ashamed to if I was from Spain. Now your knocking us because we didn't fight your battles. Dude, you are messed up.

  • It was their duty, the Allies liberated the whole european territory from the fascists, and left spain alone due to potential strategic resources.

Anyway, i will be always thankful to the american, english, irish and many other volunteers that joined the Republican international brigades to defend freedom and failed.

They are the real heroes for me.

  • some of the pictures of them are the same pictures shown in the book "Flags of our Fathers"

  • Just been to Washington and saw this memorial in real live. So this clip was very nice to see. I even got à bit emotional when I saw it... Very well done!

  • Most very well done!

  • These are the kinda men that have kept our nation free from dictatership and lets not forget the ones that died for us so we can live our happy lives

    Wonderful tribute.

    Semper Fi

  • Semper Fi!

  • God Bless them all who had fought in this war.

  • This video should be shown every year.... in every school..... in every grade. There isn't enough history taught about the soldiers who shed their blood on foreign soil so that we can have the freedom that so many take for granted.

  • @dwctek actually no i never served...yet i am joining the marine corps pretty soon though and the name comes from the movie and the blackhawks hockey team kinda made this name blackhawk used to be my favorite movie

  • @Blackhawk5656 --- I am a veteran. I served our country in US Army I use to fly in Blackhawks, Kiowas and Chinooks :-) When you join the Marines and you just happen to get the chance to take a field trip to Iwo Jima (because I believe you will get the chance to if you join the Marines) think of me. Because I wish I could join you. I would love to visit Iwo Jima.

  • I have the original Iwo Jima poaster in my room, "NOW... ALL TOGETHER!" That picture inspires me every time I see it:)

  • i know a 1st div raider who was there at iwo, still alive looking for his buddies if any still alive, god bless them all

  • oh god... why this bullshit country music.

  • Because the song goes well with the pictures. I have the pics in sync with the lyrics as in a way to tell a story.

  • Garth is just another paper-hanging liberal that voted a certain way in 2008.

He represents Dixie just as much as a McDonald's hamburger represents Texas.

    It doesn't.

  • I should think any misconceptions would clear up if you read "Flags of Our Fathers" .. by James Bradley - son of the corpsman. Both flags had significance but the first was the one everyone there recognized and the cheers went up all around. Posed photos were made. The replacement flag was not posed and it was just a very very lucky shot. The lucky composition took it to history.

  • 'The Federalist Papers' would clear even that up.

Don't ask the authors for their consent, for they are dead!

    Madison

    Jay

    Hamilton

Heroes of MY republic. Enemies of yours.

    God Bless America!

  • truemarine...I know the truth and where did you get your information anyway? The first flag was raised during the battle, but it was too small, so they asked (the Brass) for a larger one put up, so that where Six Marines took part in doing and you see the results, read your History.

  • Actually that picture was taken awhile after. The island was already occupied by the U.S. They took it just to make it seem more dramatic. The real picture is just a guy sticking it in the ground, you can look this up too if you wish. None the less, god bless the brave men and woman who serve or served.

  • My birthday shares the same day when we dropped the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima. August 6th.

  • My birthday is August 6th too! What year? I was born in 1983

  • good images, but not nuts about song track.

  • Joe took this picture within seconds as they raised the flag, someone said "Joe you are going to miss it" and Joe took the picture without seeing if he had taken a clear good shot, even he found out what he took after it became famous.

  • Its funny how the media messed this up they got names mixed up plus this ints the first flag raising the first one was about a day before. this was to replace the origanal flag with one from pearl harbor that survived

  • Great, moving, tribute to a few good men. "From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered- We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition;"

  • My favorite flagraiser is John Bradley. I just enlisted in the Navy and Im going to be what he was during the war: an (HM) Hospital Corpsman, I cant wait until I ship out!

  • This is a really great video. You did an excellent job on it. It's a tear jerker too.

  • That was beautiful.

  • The young Harlon Block picture looks like the kid who played the young Forrest Gump in the movie. (That guy actually served in the U.S. Army when he grew up)

  • without a doubt, true heroes right there, as well as all the soldiers in that war

  • that was just sad.. the ending.. the slowly fading of the flag raisers...

  • Small island occupied by small dicked Japs.

  • marineskickyoass???? Looking at your SN and comments I see another "wannabe" Marine running your sewer over a very humbling video. Ignorance at its best.

  • As i have commented in one of your other vids.

I just read in my local paper, One of the 1st flag raisers that lived in my city passed away

  • This was very very well done. Thank god for those boys that gave sooo much. Jon Bradley was a real american hero for what he did on that island,as they all were.

  • cool man

  • Super memory for the six menn !! whauuuu very nice, I now know the name of the six menn of the second reising of the Flag from rosenthals famos picture, but how about the ordinery first 6 menn

  • Simply wonderfully done! Ira Hayes and ALL veterans of ALL generations make me grateful and proud to be an American!

  • Garth Brooks-The Dance

It was played at a few different Nascar drivers funerals, including Dale Earnhardt Jr. Some of the people featured in the original video were Dr.Martin Luther King Jr, and John F. Kennedy.

  • thanks for giving me the name.

  • this is a great video. thanks for posting. who is the singer?

  • very well done...its a tearjerker watching them disappear in the order that they died...

  • As an American citizen I am very proud of these and ALL our soldiers who fought in WWII for US. God Bless you guys!!!!

  • AWESOME WELL DONE !!!!

  • Very well done and a fitting tribute. As the Iwo Jima memorial says "Uncommon valor was a common virtue."

  • Ira hayes is my hero I'm native american

  • Ira Hayes should be every Americans hero, Indian or not.

  • what the fuck does being a native have to do with it motherfucker!

  • strank is my hero 2. my username is navyseal, but thats cause someone took marines. usa usa usa usa

  • Strank was a true Marine.

    He fought until the end.

Sadly his life ended by our mistake.

I can truly say he is my hero.

  • Micheal Strank was born in Conemaugh Township in Johnstown, PA. He is well known by the people that live here and he is considered one of the bravest of the brave. He gave it his all and sacrificed his life to save his comrades. My grand father actually knew him so that gives me a clear indication he was special to everyone.

  • YOUR GRANDFATHER KNEW HIM!!! THAT IS AWESOME!I would have loved to know Mike Strank.Like actually see him. My grandfather fought in the same war. He got shot six times and survived. He NEVER talked about the war in his lifetime. only at 911 and it was 1 sentance. And now hes gone. i wish he would have told me more.

  • actually CivilWar1863 Mike Strank was born in jarabenia, Czechoslavakia

  • You are correct.

  • Not true. He was born somewhere in Europe. His brother has a vid on here. They moved to Penn when he was three. He was and still is one of my heroes.

  • Micheal Strank is my hero. When I go in the marines I want to be like he was. He was the best of the best. I don't understand why he had to die though.

  • For our freedoms.

  • Moving, i've sent you a personal message cos it was too long to fit here!!!

  • awesome...

  • Very Well done!
