Hey players! Do you think this piece is played too fast or too expressive? I don't think so. Many people (including me) try to play Buxtehude, and everybody who loves this music has his own way to play it. Every way is good, when it comes from heart, I think. But generally, the 1st part should be 'freely' played (I have no good word;D) and the fugue has to be "like a tank"- fast and with 'steady beat' (OMG, I have no word again!) This player loves Buxtehude's music and I can hear that. .
In addition, many people are used to play Baroque very strictly, even if it's like an improvisation. And where is a place for emotions? Baroque is very emotional music... ;D Sorry 4 my english.
You had all the right notes !! I felt you were rushing and blurring ...crisp execution with a moderate pulse would clarify the work. Give it a try .....wonderful ..Buxtehude didn't have a stable wind supply ..so let it breathe !!

Alot of people who play this piece just really murder it i think i saw that in the other recording... they make this piece really fast... im not saying its wrong maby im wrong.. i think the begining should be slower and bigger.. and i think the fugue was way to fast and not consistant, the grave sectuion was good.. the presto i think was alittle to presto...i think the jumping parts were way to jumpy. and the end i think should be grand and full.. not fast

I played it myself, but I would never play it that fast. The first part is quite nice, but the later, the more is it misunderstood (especially the adagios!). I don't like it.
Splendid performance. Pity about the heavy automatic volume control on the recording, though - it completely eliminates any dynamic contrast.

I played it myself, but I would never play it that fast. The first part is quite nice, but the later, the more is it misunderstood (especially the adagios!). I don't like it.

Yep, sehr schoen gespielt.
Normalerweise bevorzuge ich zwar Bach-Werke aber Herr Buxtehude hat auch einige sehr schoene Stuecke in seinem Repertoire, so wie dieses hier. :)
