  • jackson's music saved my life. literally. much love and respect and thanks.

  • What I wouldn't give for that rack full of guitars! Hell, I'd take half of 'em!

  • Not calling gay... but, there isn't anything funnier to me than a dude with a bouquet.

  • won free tickets to see him later this year:) i cant wait !!!:)

  • Billy crudup should play him a movie

  • just listening to his voice is nuff to bring tears to my eyes! still sounding so good after all these years! MUCH MUCH LOVE FROM ONE OF YOUR LOYAL FANS, MAY U BE BLESSED WITH MANY MANY MORE YEARS TO BRING US JOY LISTENING TO YOU!!

  • thank you! This brings back so many wonderful memories for me. Jackson Browne has a voice like silk. :)

  • Alright, so who's the pinhead who "dislikes" this one?

  • His voice has really hung in there...

  • Wow look at all the guitars. Saw the tour of '78

  • can not wait to see him this weekend wow 3 more days....

  • Wow he still has his brilliant voice.

  • Goose flesh; up one side of my spine and down the other.

  • Geez. would someone lend this guy a guitar or something. So sad to see such a great talent w/o an instrument to play.

  • His voice is flawless..it sounds the same as back in the 70's!

  • very powerful voice in this version i like that :)

  • Charlie Manson !! lol

  • JACKSON YOU STILL KNOW HOW TO ROCK THE WORLD......I AM ALL SMILES FOR THAT! YOU are still CUTE AS EVER.........I'M RUNNING ON FROM THE WORLD RIGHT NOW, BUT I'M GONNA VISIT THE BLVD, I need to get the hell out a this small town, WITH MY NIECES, DAUGHTER AND GRANDAUGHTER WHO ARE ALL GENERATION OF FANS OF YOURS.........BECAUSE I'M YOUR (something John Lovitz would say)...........cafesad

  • 2:25 is my favorite part. hearing the crowd provide the harmony and then see him crack a huge smile. just perfect. its moments like those that can make live performances border on the divine.

  • A gift. Jackson Browne proves music can live on. Thank you for posting!

  • what is it about this song that resonates with so many people??

  • @mattdonovan

    the title?

  • This must be a really tough song to sing for him. He wrote this in a really difficult period of his life. He was struggling as a musician and his wife committed suicide around this period. To sing it must evoke some powerful memories. Aaaaah, but listen to that reaction and connection with the crowd.

  • I find its funny that he has like 13 guitars lined up on stage. Jackson Brownie has had one of the best solo careers out there. Its sad to think that barely anyone under 20 know who he is.

  • @wesl3270 I'm 19 and have been listening to him pretty much all of my life. None of Jackson's music gets old...ever; it's just so hard to pick a favorite song, haha. Aside from my instructors, I'm probably the only person on campus who's even heard of Jackson Browne. I'd also like to mention that i'm a HUGE HUGE fan of Fats Domino ^_^ Can you imagine the looks I get when I'm blasting (okay not blasting...) "Blueberry Hill?"

  • Great performers keep the passion and voice the same from yesteryear. He's as good as he was back then....

  • he looks like the shroud of Turin....!

  • It just my eyes or does he have a mustache and maybe even a little beard?

  • @pattypence yes he has

  • He needs to have more guitars......Great song dude. This was the soundtrack to AOR radio in the late 1970's.

  • jesus, christ, you still have it, brother!

  • @MikeSwansonMusic: There is a lesson on YouTube. Do a search for: Jackson Browne-Running on Empty-the Right way!! This really is a great song.

  • how neat is this

  • in the words of swiss olympic ski jumper, GOLD MEDAL, YAAA!

  • My wife was also born in 1948.

  • thank you for posting this!!!!

  • hearing him and the crowd sing this brought tears to my eyes. In my top 5 songs EVER.

  • oh my god.. so many guitars..

  • Check out Ritchie Nevada

  • still sounds good

  • just wanted to say that im 34 and have loved this mans music since i was 14 yrs old! going to see him live in memphis on 12-4-09! i love heavy meatal but this is my roots that ill never forget! ill pass his music down to my grandchildren!

  • RIght on dude.. 38 yrs existance here.. Been a young fan for a long time... I have his entire collection right there with my Zeppelin, Ozzy & the Foo Fighters (among many others...) I'll be there at the Orpheum Friday night myself.. Looking forward to an evening with Jackson...

  • I have always loved his solo acoustic version of this song. Sounds like the audience was loving it, too.

  • Are you mad?

Who the fck are you to judge this man.

    Shame on you.

  • Nice vid/thanks for posting it.

  • Run Forest, run!!!

  • Super

  • Still sounds great.

  • He still sounds great!

  • wow ... 30 years later and he sounds the same! Awesome!

  • He's had a lot of exercise. Just ask Darryl Hannah.

  • What happens if he breaks a string?

  • I remember this from my parents cassette ! Tab.

  • oooh man that was a great saturday morning surprise - thank you!

  • anyone know what tuning he uses?

  • I think it's CGDGBD, give it a try. i'll do some investigating!

  • He's probably got a guitar tuned to every open key... look at all of those! lol

  • @jimBoRare That worked for me. Also, in case anyone was wondering, his acoustic version of "In The Shape of A Heart" is in Open Db.

  • @fortehlulz9999 I actually took the time to learn "In The Shape of a Heart" from the solo acoustic album, and I made it work by doing a simple Drop D, then capo-ing up one fret. The song is in Eb Major, but the first chord is a Cm7.

  • He uses open g tuning. dgdgbd. Low to high. He might play a little lower key though on the record but it is open G tuning the same tuning Kieth Richards is famous for. Ry Cooder showed Kieth in the late 60's. Great tuning, big sound.

  • @MikeSwansonMusic

hey mike i believe its open g tuning

  • Great performance. He does have a white beard and it has to add at least 10 years to his look. It doesn't do anything to his voice cause he still sounds great!

  • Does he have a white beard? It's hard to see for sure but it looks as if he does in this video; have never seen him with a beard before.... Jackson was a total musical idol and muse for me during the 80's. I loved his music so much that I learned to play some of his songs on the piano. Lot of it has a very bluesey kind of sound.

  • seriously jimBoRare You R A W K!!!

So don't be hatin' on me, k?
