The bizarre aspect of music like Procol's is that it seems to have been overlooked by the younger masses of today. Quintissential English bands that crafted songs like this are a rare item; especially for apprentices in melody, which I feel a lot of present day music lacks.
@musicplateau1 - Excellent assessment. Exactly. From what I see there are talented younger masses out there trying their best -- but the creativity that was from bands and musicians like Procol Harum is just not there. The motivation, the drive, the urge to actually do something different from the rest -- just not there.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
Catching up on PH via the greatest medium since Gutenberg. hadn't heard hide nor hair of 'em since seeing them inconcert in St. Louyis, MO USA: 1972! Did get the Robin Trower solo album, tho'....
When I listen to this song, I always ask myself why PH is known only because of AWSoP. They were not only a one hit group, they wrote many wonderful songs and should deserve a much bigger audience and much more respect.
@Found4words They are touring the US in June, limited dates primarily in the Northeast states and one date in in IL. They have not done a large scale US tour since the 90's though.
Thank you for uploading this, free2ouch. I think Procol deserve to be rediscovered, they have always been amazingly creative and strangely under-rated. And they are still going strong!
In their current line-up (all fantastic musicians in their own right) Procol are touring again this year!!!
Wish they would tour the States, they were here in a limited fashion about 6 years ago but have not done a full blown tour since the mid 90's. Gary, come back to Capistrano!
Is there a stereo version of this? The only improvement I'd like over this version. Guess I'll have to release my tightwad wallet and actully buy the CD, hehe.
Salvo Records have been remastering all of Procol's studio albums and are getting rave reviews. They have released 9 with 3 left to go (including Exotic Fruit).
The sound clarity and separation is quite astonishing when you consider the shoddy quality of (almost all) the original master tapes! I bought a few from the fan site "Beyond the Pale" for $10.75 each which to me is very reasonable, for such quality. Highly recommended.
The studio version is good but the live one from Golders Green (22 March 1974) on the "Live at the BBC" CD is astonishingly perfect. Probably the best rendition of this track they have ever performed.
A fine example of an underrated band. Gary Brooker is awesome as always. And the pics are great, too. Thanks again for posting excellent R&R music, free2ouch.
Lovely music. Procol were not one hit wonders but deserved much more success.

They are playing Hagen (Germany) next week and then are booked for 2 gigs in Russia and one in Norway.
I'm sure they would love to do some US gigs, but there would have to be a lot of demand ...

My favorite song from this classic PH work. Procol Harum still stand, to my mind, as one of the best musical groups in history.
