  • PS I live on Kangaroo Island off the southern coast of Australia, and our Paulownia loves it here! I think you can grow them anywhere. Brilliant tree, gorgeous flowers (honey bees love the flowers), fast-growing, and amazing leaves.

  • Did you know that kangaroos love eating the leaves and seed pods on these trees? My pet roos love them!

  • Hi, ilve in maui,Hawaii and i would like to plant some of these trees but i don,t know how to get them,do you know if there is in hawaii that kind of trees ?

  • one of the very best trees to grow and fast but 200 board feet in 5-6 years? 12 years atleast if you have the right soil/conditions, why do people that try and sell trees over estimate? to get 200 board feet in a tree it has to be about 19-20" wide at breast height. No tree will grow that fast in 6 years.

great tree though anyway, make sure you plant them in sandy loam, they don't like clay-to much water

  • Hi and many thanks for uploading this interesting video. Can you conform the sub-species?

    Is it Paulownia elongata?

Im toying with the idea of growing several hectares of these in the southern Philippines.

    Thanks in advance.

  • One resource I read suggested planting them in 20 foot by 20 foot square grid... but that doesn't seem to be a very efficient use of land to me--would making an isometric grid (equilateral triangles) work better? Would the trees suffer for it?

  • I have a question, my mother planted a Paulownia tree about 5 years ago in our back yard and its a giant fat tree by now, with huge big leaves and purple flowers. She would like to know if the big fat leaves are eatable allowing to make a cheap salad out of it since we literally see hundreds of them, also are the seeds eatable? Is this tree venomous to Human Health? We are looking information regarding this. Thanks.

  • I have 10 growing. 15-20' 2nd season. I have them close together and branches are coming out low on trunk. What kind of shape should I prune. Take all branches off 6' down???

  • How can I get my seeds to sprout? I have them in peat pellots in a greenhouse with a flourescent bulb above them with plenty of water. They still refuse to sprout.

  • Is possible growing this tree at over 2000 m over sea level ? What kind of paulownia?

Grettings and thanks a lot for your help

  • Do you sell seeds?

  • Great for removing CO2 from the atmosphere.

  • Skyler, Planting an introduced, highly potential invasive species in Hawaii, the most isolated land mass with one of the most threatened native habitats in the world is not environmentally stabilizing. If your plantation ever got loose, these trees are extremely competitive, leaching nutrients and moisture from soils at rates that native vegetation cannot keep up with. They are very difficult to kill as well. There is already a Paulownia species regarded as noxious in the South-eastern US.

  • If you want people to listen to your spelling/grammar corrections, spelling your own words correctly will better help to get your point across.

    TRULY

  • I live in Western Australia and have just planted 2,one out the front of my house and one out the back. There is no shade providing trees close to the house,so these (which have been planted in well thought out locations)should do the job just nicely.I like the fact that they are decidous trees,so they'll provide shade when it's needed most and drop their leaves in winter when more light is needed instead. Thanks for the info on the video!

  • Royal Empress Tree are not invasive everywhere they grow. Some places, admitably like Texas and Gulf states have a climate similar or better than China for growing these trees and they are invasive. But no everywhere. Only plant tree where trees used to be, and grass where grass grows. We have a paulownia, same as this tree. Let people make their own decisions, and not force your ideas and beleifs upon them.

  • I am only trying to share something sustainable not trying to tell you where or how to plant.I also feel that resource drives economy and we are harvesting a hectare per second as we speak for lumber and I don't see hectares of trees planted per second. I feel there is a need for renewable resources every where and if you think you are in a good area and want to grow sustainably while restoring over worked land please do it plant the planet

  • I am in a terrible place to grow paulownias, maybe the worst except antartica! Kansas is very inhospitable.

  • This guy in the video is in Huwaii. Considering all the problems they already have caused to this island, this is just disqusting.

  • If you want people to truley listen, try spelling words correctly.

    Hawaii

    Disgusting

  • You can hear me? Nice fail

  • **** ***

  • If the poster is promoting responsible timber farming etc. Then the invasive aspect of this tree is under control & only the benefits are being reaped.

  • These trees are the 'greenest' tree to plant, they feed the soil, they protect us from the sun, the bark treats our dandruff and grey hair, and they make beautiful surfboards

  • I should point out, too, that the Empress Splendor variety is incapable of being invasive (unlike trolls) because it is a sterile hybrid.

  • Invasive where and why, [br]asshole? In disturbed areas, meaning it is pioneering, meaning it moves into places people damage, meaning you are railing against the wrong invasive species. Now go get yourself some social skills or, more preferably, dive headfirst into a running woodchipper.

  • interesting!

  • Was thinking about putting 2 paulownia in the front yard, after further investigation though, the roots on these things grow up to 40 feet searching for water. Decided no way after hearing that (with a septic system, and house within those 40 feet)

  • They actually search down 100 feet apparently.

  • @FancyPants559 I've been told that they avoid septic tanks because they are water sensitive--and those roots grow *down* not to the side.

  • The benefits he is talking about here does not out way the future destruction that these invasive species will cause. All for some quick money. SAD

  • The sale of these trees are destroying the ecosystem here in North America. You know damn well these are invasive trees. You are an ass hole.

  • I have 6 in my yard. They are 8 years old and are as big as 50 -60 year old oaks

  • These are invasive. We are about to take yet another big hit to our native environment because of the sales of these trees here in America. The benefits he is talking about here does not out way the future distruction of this invasive species.

  • Fuck off Nazi

  • Only a nazi would plant invasive trees and destroy the ecology like this.

  • better to have these than the other invasive species like cedar

  • That's a pretty bad excuse. There are some native cedars that are just fine.

  • not hear in texas were grass plains use to be there is woods full of nothing but cedar everware also these plants suckout water that plants really need especialy in our drought they dont grow like there northern cousins these grow short and extremely wide there leaves are like thorns and when there a brush fire these just burn like gasoline these trees are everyware and i mean everyware also we have the highest consentration of feral hogs wich ruin graslands and habitat

  • Yes I am from the grass lands of north Texas. Do not plant this tree. I fucking beg you. These trees can spread seed in the wind up to a half mile from the mother plant.

  • i bought a streile hybrid incapable of breeding so ill be fine

  • No such thing. If it is alive long enough to flower, it will seed. News paper mail order junk weed tree. Can't wait till they are illeagal. And any nursery that sells these really need to be ovoided or even prosicuted. (especially if they claim to have a "sterile hybrid".) We have enough problems as it is. Lets not make more.

  • You hate trees if you plant invasive trees like these.

  • Comment removed

  • Not in the plains. Plains animals get forced out then wood animals come in. The great plains is the most threatened biotope in North America. Get your facts kid.

  • Great work!!! Are you part of the Permaculture culture?!

  • test.

  • Yes! we have 12 of them in our garden, in 18 months they have grown huge!!

  • If you have been in business for 9 years, you must have milled large quantities of timber by now. Can you confirm the volume and quality of timber produced per tree after 6 years, and also how much it sells for? Please indicate where the markets and buyers for this timber are?

  • Hi, surfboards, boats, furniture, jewelry boxes, musical instruments. We sell paulownia wood for surfboard making, it finishes beautifully, and our children are after the scraps to make their toys.

  • cool video, I love the paulownia. I find it amazing how some people consider them a pest tree. How did you propagate those?

  • Excellent . thanks for the info. I will search out Pawlonia asap. Looks beautiful. How will it do on heavy clay and light rich soils here in the uk.
