  • BEST! styx song JY was the heart of the band!

  • @sjdss What? T-Shaw first, then. JY in my opinion.

  • @DannyGrogg yeh deyoung is a wussy!

  • It seems there are no more statements. Just folks looking "for my fair share". Too sad...

  • The guitar work in this song is truly amazing.

  • Hell Yeah!!!

  • lot of truth to this song-woman who live and die by beauty usually end of shallow-they dont know who to trust cause of their looks

  • "turn that shit up" X 2

  • JY - You're awesome. I wish more people at my school listened to this kind of stuff!

  • turn that shit up!

  • much like I am

  • ur dad was drunk

  • reminds me a bit of 'Locomotive Breath'

  • @preluki No shit, music suffers these days, have to search for good stuff?

  • I'm an old guy (class of '78) but I remember this 8-track (!!!) on the stereo of my Cobra Jet Gran Torino (IDENTICAL to Clint eastwood's in the movie) as we sat on the gravel bar of a river outside of town, just me and my friends smokin' weed and talking bullshit to the girls there with us. No cops, no trouble, just carefree times....

  • @cmac9able class of '78 myself n remember those days also,, awesome times :)

  • i have a confession. when i was a really small child, my brothers played STYX over adn over again to a point where i was sick and tired of hearing it. Now i am older and changed my mind, but my friends hate STYX, i tried to play them songs like this WITHOUT THE INTRO and they still hate it but This is really good. I remember seeing Solo albums-tommy shaw girls with guns-in cut out sections of stores and one dollar used bins. BUT THIS STUFF RULES!!!

  • @MichaelHansenFUN A friend of mine told me that classic rock sucks. He ended up with a broken nose.

  • @fraroc And I would guess 2 black eyes...lol

  • @Bunkerlab19 YES SIR!!

  • @Bunkerlab19 *Bunkerlab19 * Best comment ever =]

  • @Bunkerlab19 Great story! Growing up with a cool dad must have been fabulous.

  • @Bunkerlab19

    Man,

You made my day with your comment!!!

  • @Bunkerlab19 Damnit Man I Said LOUDER!!!!! lol

  • @Bunkerlab19 thats fucking badass!!!!

  • @Bunkerlab19 Your dad's a badass.

  • We can all thank Tommy Shaw for the killer rhythm guitar on this particular piece of music. It's easy to see him working that Gibson Explorer in the studio to make this one of the finest Styx tunes ever (musical and socially!).

  • Download link plz?

  • In my world,Caren Cobb, you ARE MISS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!! please contact me!!!???

  • Love the fuzzy guitar.

  • That would be great styxreo,...i'd love to see it! VIVA 1980'S MTV VIDEOS!! :)

  • Probably one of the catchiest Guitar rifts in Rock 'n Roll history!

  • If anyone wants the original 1977 video, I'll send you a link. Youtube took my copy down due to copyright infringement, but I don't see anyone offering it up for sale. email me at styxreo at yahoo d0t c0m.

  • OK, I just had to comment this. When I was about 9 years old, me and my brothers used to think it says "F*CK You! Miss America!"

  • I love the subtle way Jy comments on America in this song. Think of the word miss in Miss aerica as a verb... Not you Miss America..can;t happen here..Won't you miss America..when its gone...Don't you miss america...maybe its already gone. Judges reading between the lines..cage at the human zoo. Wonderfully deep social commentary using the imagery of a beauty pageant. And one hell of a kick ass song. Best guitar tone I can imagine. They don't make em like this anymore.

  • Jy's voice is fucking badass on this song!!!!!

  • One of the best Styx songs! I like Castle Walls a little better, and Little Fugue in G/Father OSA

  • Fantastic piece of music....sadly he did not have the same voice on the live 1996 DVD...we all get old I guess......

  • @TheGDAE This is an album track that can't be topped live, one of styx's best and most unique recordings!

  • 3 people were miss america runner-ups

  • @Cr0ssb0w18 they still would of loved the song :)

  • The 70's will never be duplicated, the music, the drugs, the whole fucking vibe.... If you weren't there ..... 2 fuckin bad

  • A very good friend of mine was an exceptional artist. She did a copy of this album cover for a school art project. She won a blue ribbon. Sadly, a year after she graduated, she was killed in an automobile accident while coming back from her honeymoon in Mexico. Every time I see this album cover, I think of her.

  • @Judy111965 when i was younger, some friend s of the family had given me some art project, the STYX logo engraved and varnised and 'laqured' in wood...LAMINATED that is the word i am looking for. we cut it up and used it for firewood MY DUMB ASS because years later, i met a girl online who is totally obsessed with STYX, especally Tommy Shaw (this was around the time of the last Star Wars prequil) ALso in 1980 or so my brother bought a STYX NECKLACE at tower records. wish I could find it.

  • @Judy111965 sucky and badass all at once, I love Styx

  • @ayethen420white I know right! The Guitar just fucking pawns, but Dennis is a witsy bit overwrought.

  • @Judy111965 Every-time I see the art, I think of many my lady. 2006 I had the privilege to watch these fine men do this very song again? Flawlessly I might add?

  • @Judy111965 ......that is so tragic Judy

  • @Judy111965 aww that is tragic, God bless her soul... :O(

  • @Judy111965 God bless her. From what I understand she lived a very good life :(

  • @Judy111965 eye wundr how mutch she fartid

  • Still Love it!

  • No one remembers the monsters these guys were in America. What the hell happened....I was just a kid but all my older brothers listened to was Zeppelin,Kiss,Rush and Styx.

  • styx the best ever.

  • One of my favs - used to smoke bong hits and listen to this LP - my fav song off of this album!

  • cant....stop....the....headbanging!!

  • @mrjibbo44

  • never follow the sheep

  • @mrjibbo44 I actually just bought this on vinyl a couple days ago. It's great.

  • no,this is pretty much how it is

  • i hear no drumming

  • @Syzygy60 What?

  • @mrjibbo44 Oddly enough, it sounds more pure on vinyl.

  • love it.

  • well its true, just take a look, the cover sometimes makes the book

  • Forgive me for sounding like a total Styx noob, but is JY singing on this one? It doesn't sound like Tommy or Dennis.

  • @ThrashTillYouCrash Never mind, I found my answer. This song kicks ass.

  • I can play every note,is not me ur trying to convince

  • i heard someone say Styxx didn't rock

  • Classic,...................

  • in ur place at the human zoo they all stop 2 look @ u

  • a disease for which there is no cure

  • rockone\baybayyyyyy

  • STYX's best song all time - if you like it rockin

Styx = also a river in hades

  • Funny, I've always liked STYX, but never made it to one of their shows, I've seen countless bands, I've got this one, Equinox, Cornerstone and kinda stopped after that. But tonight my wife's brother and I are going to see STYX in Austin...with Backstage passes. Can't wait. Can anyone explain why STYX castrated themselves?

  • @flatblackcat68 Why does any man self destruct? Pussy and cash!

  • First Styx album I bought, based on seeing them on Old Grey Whistle Test doing Fooling Yourself. Saw them at Liverpool Empire, 78 I think, brilliant...

  • Best Styx evah! 10,000 thumbs up!!

  • that is such an insane synth solo in the middle.

  • First time I heard this was at the old Summit in Houston. Styx opened for KISS! Great show for it's day!

  • Lol Its awesome how some of the Styx songs are all soft in the begenin and then it gets rock hard latter. LoL

  • This album was my first concert, one i will never forget.

  • Grand Illusion was my first concert. As how i will never forget.

  • @labgrunt1961 That was a lucky album for Styx. Saw them at Junefest in 2001 (see my previous comment).

  • Great song. Did not know that The Grand Illusion was Styx' 7th album, released on 7/7/77 as stated by labgrunt1961. Saw these guys at Junefest in 2001 along with Journey, Bad Company, Night Ranger, Molly Hatchet and Billy Squier. Great show.

  • This is their heaviest & best song......LOVE IT !!!

  • @05271963 Me too. Styx Rocks!!!

  • I bought this casette in 1978 to play in my '68 camaro while in the Navy. Oh to be young again.

  • STYX---"MISS AMERICA"

  • Lets c any1 now match that !.....we aint got chit now .....glad its in tracks for us.....IN STONE for us 2 rok on!!! \m/

  • Still Fucking cool after all these years

  • I didn't get introduced to Styx until Mr. Roboto when I was a kid. After listening to this song and Snowblind, I might need to explore the real music they made before falling prey to radio pop. This has a killer riff!

  • My winterguard is doing this song and it is fucking awesome! Can't wait til our first comp!

  • RIP JP

  • JY's songs do kick ass..... Cornerstones Eddie is a killer tune, just saw them on Grand Illusion Peices of Eight tour, it was great!!! However I still miss Dennis Deyoung, just not the same without him?

  • I love John Panozza drumming

  • STYX---"MISS AMERICA"

  • I just love all of JYs tunes. They just kick ass.

  • My favorite Styx tune! Killer riff!!

  • @cckeach7 agreed. hasn't lost it's effect after all these years.

  • Absolute classic. Saw it before the record came out at Busch Stadium St.Louis. It was called Superjam. They were unveiling the Grand Illusion record and the crowd loved it. I squeezed my way through 50, 000 people to the tenth row. First time was the greatest.

  • @vascmana I went to 3 Superjams at Busch Stadium. So cool to read your post! Here was our routine: Start the party @ 8 am. Leave the house @ 10 am. Get settled in at Busch by 11 am (one year we were 4-peeps-deep from the stage). Be completely ROCK and ROLLED by 5 kickass bands for 8-10 hours! Leave around midnight (foggy on this stat)...Great times.

  • damn i ran outta itunes money can someone email this track? i don't like to download music from p2p bullshit.. don't want a virus and don't want to be the root cause of destroying the industry.

  • @kjeezy101 hey go on mp3bee bro... and use download helper just google it yeah thats how i get my music for free thx and btw styx is awesome and they grew up in my neighborhood!!!!

  • @sheephider82 - I remember others in H.S. talking about it but who knows why I never heard the whole album. It's interesting to see how many Styx fans there are; it's too bad the originals broke up.

  • saw them oct 29 @ baltimore...amazing

grand illusion and pieces of eight cover to cover

  • Comment removed

  • @bevil4aday No it wasn't. It's quite possible you are confusing it with another song from Styx II, but this was definitely from GI.

  • @StyxFan93 You made me look it up and you are right... it was Father O.S.A. that is on Styx II. My mistake. I retract my earlier comment.

  • @bevil4aday That's alright, no worries. We all make mistakes.

  • wish they had done a video for this song. someone with editing talents should come up with one.

  • great song. great band.

saw them while on tour with reo speedwagon
