I think you made a mistake at the beginning of the last verse;

you wrote "If one day you need me" witch translates to "si un dia (tu) me necesitas".

But in my opinion Carlos Valera meant it in a different way, "Si un dia me faltas" translates to "If one day I'm missing you" now I know that doesn't make much sense in english but " If one day you need me" just doesnt do it any justice.

"si un dia me faltas" to me means if one day you are gone as if she had left me or missing in my life(death).
