  • I'm pretty sure this song is about watching porn.

  • What city did that occur in? Since it's a true event, it gives me an NYC or Tokyo vibe.

  • Oh that really went down? Deep, dude..

  • this song makes me sit at a place , calm down, and then get , chuck the procrastination and achieve!

  • I fucking love this song.

  • 2 am, I come into a girl's apartment. Her room is lit by candle, her sheets all red, a view of the city out her window, and this song playing on her Ipad.

No, she means nothing to me.

  • @Tinashowa God damn.

  • @Tinashowa That's a heavy period.

  • @Tinashowa Dam.

  • @Tinashowa i dont get it.

  • @hanshanshansans It was tits is what I am trying to say.

  • @Tinashowa

My dude. Good imagery there, but maybe could have left out the ipad part. Totally get that ethereal, cityscape vibe, for sure. I could totally picture what you described, while gazing out upon a mega-city, like you'd find in an anime or dystopian novel/film.

She definitely means nothing when you live tonight through methadone highs.

  • @Mzral Suppose so. Just wanted to make sure it didnt come across as some sort of poetry to the point that it wouldnt sound like a true story, which it is.

  • Oh that's cool you're posting meshuggah in your tags because you want people to know you sound exactly like meshuggah and contribute nothing new to the table.

  • @lovewithanapparition hahahah what?

  • @lovewithanapparition

BS. People used heavy tunings before Meshuggah, and people used difficult rhythm-patterns before Meshuggah, Besides, this is pretty much a very melodic band, with a lot more singing.

They contribute much new to the table.

  • @lovewithanapparition If you think this sounds anything like Meshuggah you are retarded, even ignoring the vocals the instrumental style is completely different, so I'm going to assume you're trolling.

  • Tumblr brought me here, and fuck am I glad I couldn't sleep tonight..!

  • @Rodski10 TesseracT is life, manifested into music.

  • Those people who have disliked this are a bunch of fucking trolls

  • I love the funk bass, gives these guys a cool tone

  • Why do you have Meshuggah in the tags? Oh wait, its because you're tag stuffing and riding along on others success. Guess theres a reason why a shitty band like this isnt successful and Meshuggah is though.

  • @KreativE535 You are ignorant

  • ok i gotta ask what do you guys think is going on time signature wise 2:50 onwards

im hearing 6/8 then at 3:12 i get 2/2 then moving to 12/4

what do you guys think is going on, may of you will have a better knowledge of theory than me im sure ;)

  • @compoundguy Honestly, they can play around with the feel of it all the want, but technically i still hear it in a 6/8 if you bob your head on 1 and 4, you can see it still follows the same metre, but like i said they play with the feel of it a lot

  • This is terrific. Really atmospheric and menacingly heavy at the same time. The clean guitar playing is fantastic.

  • Thumbs Up if you smoke marijuana

  • @FinallyFlanders Poser.

  • @FiestyMclovin hahaha no just trying to make be friendly man

  • @FinallyFlanders Okay now I feel like a dick. xD

I apologize, nothing against you or smoking pot.

  • Ok... I'm starting to love this band x)

  • kinky

  • Love it, simply as that

  • This is a perfect song to be at the ending scene of a movie and then a 0:18 the credits start to roll!

  • WE GOT CUBES ON CUBES ON CUBES MAN

  • The Joseph Fritzl song :)

  • @BornOfTheCypher lolwut? :p

  • This video explains perfectly what i felt for someone who didnt care at all............. now i feel nothing... You mean nothing, nothing

No you mean nothing at all

I'll never say a word of this I swear, I swear

    Never...never

    I hope you know

I live tonight through methadone highs

    This life is over

    yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • This video went viral on Senegal

  • This song always touches me. Still one of their best songs in my opinion.

  • 2:20

  • These guys are sooooooooooooooo channeling Fredrik :D

  • Great song. Lyrics are a kinda creep. They're kinda going for the sexual innuendo's like Tool I think..

  • @EtherealWaves I don't think it's innuendo, the lyrics are way too dark for that. I think it's about sexually abusing somebody.

  • Are these lyrics about watching porn? Or rape? :o

  • @peghead84 i think these lyrics are about drug addiction

  • @nuoldschool duh, "i live tonight through methadone highs"

  • The huge sounding spacious part at 3:14 just freezes time for me everytime I hear it! It gives me chills, invades my brain and paralyses my whole body. It's fucking incredible that part...

  • @TheWeemaster Sounds like weed dude.

  • @Puchinbola No, sounds like decent music. Besides, I wouldn't touch that shit anyway! Give me a beer anyday...

  • XDXDXD DJENT PUNS R SO FUNNY

  • i really love the music but damn those lyrics are lame!

  • 36 people are out of their freaking minds!

  • Anyone out there have a song that no matter how many times you hear it, or how well you know it, it's just as exhilarating to hear it as it was the first time? That is this song.

  • @Rockyroopam No..

  • Djust listen to the song, shit!

  • @jmdb1994 *Djshit

  • @Rockyroopam phail

  • @Rockyroopam Fail, you only put a D in front of words that start with J, dumbass

  • @BeforeThePlagues Or a G dumbass.

  • @ParadigmProphet umm no

  • @BeforeThePlagues Gently is spelled with a G.

  • @ParadigmProphet it just sounds like the word thats why its funny jeezus

  • @XgiantXrectumX Lol, you obviously didn't read the rest of the convo..

  • @ParadigmProphet lol no i did that comment was meant for the other person my bad :p

  • @XgiantXrectumX Haha, no bigs. :D

  • @BeforeThePlagues you do know what djent means right?

  • @xXxglassgowdreamxXx What's Djent?

  • @teidich1 Djent was a form of playing a guitar chord and now refers to a genre wich characteristics are very low tuned guitars, complex rhythms and the usage of this form of playing this low, open chord

  • @teidich1 Some gay trend that hipsters won't shut the fuck up about

  • @90fourninety haha YUP - every djent band worth caring about is so much more than just "Djent" the only real "djent" ones are the wannabe's who haven't quite understood the point :P such bullshit lol

  • I just heard these guys for the first time today and my first thought was a mixture of Tool and Periphery and it's nice to see I'm not the only one!

  • Sounds like Tool of a new generation, which is gooood. <3

  • @jamieMUSICLIVESmcgee seriously, I thought I was the only who thought they were comparable to tool. SOOO many people say they're like a worse version of periphery because they don't use diminished 6th's every two seconds. These guys have great songwriting skills.

  • @ImIntoAnimals Hmmmm i agree they have great song writing skills :) Also, i dont understand the comparison Periphery in terms of sound. I mean yes, they are both prog (or dare i say it "djent") bands, but they have a completely different approach and outcome in their music. I enjoy both bands equally :)

  • @avenegedslaterfold I, actually heard the term djent since a bit ago, its really chugging in G or A. I prefer Tesserect, they feel more mature even if they aren't as technically advanced.

  • @ImIntoAnimals Hahahh yes they do have a mature edge to them. And yes, djent is kinda like that. But the best example of the kinda sound that it is, is the start of "Sunrise" by TesseracT. That first riff makes the "Djent" sound. I dont understand why its become a genre now though. Because bands only occasionally use djent chords, the rest is often syncopated riffing. But im not complaining; all the "Djent" bands i know seem to have very nice music.

  • @avenegedslaterfold It hasn't really become it's own genre per say, more is just classified as a "sub-genre" nowadays. In my opinion its just retarded although, because I've always known Djent to be a technique and more of a tone than a genre of music.

  • @avenegedslaterfold agreed :)

  • Slap Bass so cool

  • fuck mainstream music, this band REDEFINES music!

  • ...Maynard? What are you doing here? :D

  • Imagine Elliot singing this song. It give me chills!

  • Fuck you for quitting you God like vocalist Dan Tompkins!!!!

    *crys in a corner

  • You made a typo: the correct spelling is "I like to watch things burn down soft and Djently."

  • @Thyrtien You are a djentleman and a scholar.

  • This singer reminds me of Karnivool's.

  • who makes these lyric videos? so interested in making one like this! simple but effective! a few other band have done this like suicide silence and sevenfold they look awesome!

  • @triviumwarcry Deftones - Diamond Eyes was killer sweet

  • That intro is some srsly groovy shit!

  • My friend showed me this band and I just fell in love with this song <3

  • 3:13 and on.... sweet god damn fucking metal

  • How can anyone hate this band or song!?

  • @aleroblues its easy to.

  • fukn cheap lyrics, such movin groovin music ruined by generic meaninglessness; and to any one tryna tell me other wise, "your opinion is invalid".

  • @yanchesanchez Okay, create an argument, provide no proof your side is correct, then ignore all potential responses because of some arbitrary ruling on your end. Maybe if your command of the english language was that of a high school graduate instead of a 6th grader, you might be able to understand and interpret the meaning of this song.

  • @yanchesanchez Your opinion is invalid.

  • @Boneworks94 Glad you could connect with those lyrics. I Love this band(so much groove and feel), i just wish i could mute the vocals(not that the guy can't sing), or at least stop 12yr old's from writing the the lyrics.

  • @yanchesanchez I'd say Dan's voice more than makes up for the slightly generic lyrics. They sort of become an instrument in themselves. So I pay less attention to what he's saying and more to the sound he's making. If I want complex lyrics I'll go listen to Meshuggah. :)

  • @Omeggia Yeah, the English language is pretty generic in itself. That's what separates good vocalists from the everyday bullshit is the ability to actually use your voice as an instrument other than just mindlessly singing. Mike Patton said in an interview that he thinks more about how one word flows into the next rather than what the meaning of the words are.

  • @kolektiv7 lol

  • @Omeggia I get you, Guess I'm a bit pretentious like that, but good choice, I guess that's one of the many many things that make Meshuggah great, them and Tool, and The Mars Volta. The holy trinity of music to date. Life changing shit! I can't wait to add another band to these three, there is a reason they are all so popular, nothing about these bands can piss a decent human off, maybe the brutality of Meshuggah, but fuck it, its what they're about \m/

  • LOL.. You people seem to know everything about everything!!

  • personally the perspective in this song reminds me of a transfer of gender attrition for men as we become more vested than ever before in materials, electronics, etc.. yet while the other stays the same lusting to be lusted

  • SON LA BANDOTAAAA!!!..

  • the old version is much better!

  • can somebody explain with little detail, what this song is about? what im getting from it is and abusive relationship that counteracts on both sides, mental, and physical. but i can't seem to figure it out.

  • gotta say, i think this Djent stuff is a really useless and uninspiring genre, but i enjoyed this song alot. I do indeed dig this.

  • @bloodybirdbrain in comparison to what?

  • @bloodybirdbrain

I like this song, too. But, if you think djent is useless apart from this one song, you probably haven't heard enough [good] djent.

  • @phahq i saw Periphery when they supported DEP last year and they were great, but i was unaware that there was "Djent" and ive checked out a few other bands and honestly, i didnt like them at all, they sound like architects wannabes and i hate architects. why i call djent useless is because its unfair that a couple of great bands like Tesseract and Periphery are being lumped with a whole horde of mediocre bands. Ive seen and like Meshuggah but for fucks sake think outside of the box for once.

  • @bloodybirdbrain

Have you tried Animals as Leaders, or Xerath? 2 of the best bands i've ever heard. The thing is, there are a shitload of djent bands, and 99% of them are pretty crappy. Honestly, i find it annoying; but i don't consider the genre adjectively based on the bands, but rather on the potential. As for thinking outside the box, well, there are no patents in music, and there's only so much you can come up with that's new. Djent bands take a good idea, and use it. Some do it better.

  • @phahq I dont mind Animals as Leaders & Xearth are good but i guess im not really into this sort of music. Well thats is what im saying its very misleading that there are bands out there with potential that gets lumped with bands that are crap. My definition of thinking outside the box is that you get bands that hold their own. Some can tell when a band is in it for show or they put a unique and honest effort in making music.Im not a fan of djent tho so i have no place to say which band is what.

  • the old version of this song was better..

  • @biancagarcia707 I can see why you think that, it's almost desperate and it seems like he's given up in a sense.

  • aggression-tears of a clown hope you people like this video from aruba

  • I actually think I like the earlier recording better than this one... made the intro bass line so much more epic to me. This is still amazing of course.

  • can somebody explain the lyrics? xD

  • @kittypawz258 I think it's about a druggie who sexually abuses a woman. He gets pleasure from hurting her and he feels no attraction to her.

  • @Spermwhales93 well then... o_O

  • Here is the wikipedia version: "Djent is an 'underground' genre of Heavy Metal. The word "djent" is an onomatopoeia for a heavily palm-muted, distorted guitar chord. It is considered to have been inspired by tech-metal band Meshuggah. Typically, the word is used to refer to music that makes use of this sound, to the sound itself, or to the scene that revolves around it. Its meaning is the subject of much debate, and there is some controversy in regards to its classification as a new subgenre"

  • @derekcx god shutup dude. if youv heard djent then you know what it sounds like. anyways its a made up word by a crazy son of a gun named misha mansoor.. not high brow stuff guys

  • @206Shane Fredrik Thordendahl*

  • @206Shane Fredrik Thordendal from Meshuggah made it up to describe the sound he got from the open note of his detuned 8 string, not Misha.

  • Djent, c'est des riffs saccadés avec un accordage très bas, style 1 ton 1/2 en dessous, voir plus (genre meshuggah). Rien de djent dans ce groupe.

  • I'm a French guy so please, can you explain what "djent" means concerning Tesseract's songs ?

  • @Cyberbob182

good question! its this. its a sound basicly. add this aftere youtube . com watch?v=kfw-ZGbBz7Q

  • @viola0shredder Thank you a lot. So djent is not a pejorative term is it ? I thought it was a way to criticize a song saying it is djent but it's not am I right ?

  • @Cyberbob182 djent is not derrogative, its basicly describing the style of the guitar riffs

  • The lyrics haunt me....and so do the vocals.

  • I prefer the demo version but its still a great song :)

  • Damn, dudes got an amazing voice, its like angels!

  • if i could fuck music i would fuck this song....

  • @shawnWAX get their cd then. :P lol

  • @shawnWAX Even better. Find a smokin' hawt slut and bang her brains out with this as your soundtrack.

  • @shawnWAX ...soft and gently

  • @shawnWAX HAHAHA! If I could fuck music, I would fuck this whole album! LOL!

  • @shawnWAX I did it....it was very nice

  • @shawnWAX Why don't you fuck hot girl to this....I tried. Its quite nice.

  • TesseracT strike me as a heavier version of Porcupine Tree in a way.

  • 3:15 to 3:45 is possibly the best thing I've ever heard.

  • I don't quite get how the original was better, granted it was a good song, but this is so much more refined. I guess it's a marmite thing between the vocals of Abisola and Dan, but I much prefer Dan's. The extra high "never" in the chorus just gives the song a whole new depth. Ahhh I love that TesseracT are pushing their own boundaries as well as the genre's. LOVE IT.

  • @OfOrpheusOfficial perfect

  • If they, Katatonia and Karnivool would play a show together, I think whatever would happen afterwards, I'd leave this world happy

  • I was borned in the month of April. TesseracT is amazing band; Thank you Century Media records for signing these guys.

  • They're so much more than just Djent, simply awesome.

  • Saw these guys with Protest yesterday, fucking awesome.

  • Thumbs up if you we're searching for this band after seeing them with Protest The Hero.

  • Those 28 dislikes don't know what real music is :)

  • This song is simply mesmerizing. It's ambient, it's flowly, it's spacy, it's calming, it's brutal when it needs to be. This is the epitome of what ambient metal should be. It's almost stellar; as if the band had captured the stars themselves and used them to write this song. Think what you want about the singer, this song wouldnt be the way it is without him.

  • sounds good

    feels good

    its like

if my brain was a bunch of musical instruments put together

this music is playing all of them

    with perfect tuning

    like

a band of harpies playing my brain

  • people are afraid of change. singer changes and people are scared. it's different, doesn't make it any better or worse, because there is no comparison.

  • purdie shuffle!

  • I Agree. This band will be fucking huge!

    Fantastic song!APRIL.

  • djentlemen, the future of music is in good hands!

  • I find myself in a state of great distaste towards the new vocal pitch TesseracT has been working with. The vocals on their demo, that demo that had spellbound me to this band for the longest time, were absolutely beautiful to the point of mesmerization. Now... Dare I say it, they sound banal, insipid even.

Next time I see them live, I'll be sure to bring that up with one of the band mates. I love this band, but I don't wish to see such great potential go to waste because of their popularity

  • @Cagedand3nRaged Shut up dude. Dan is a hundred times better than their old vocalist. He fits their music perfectly, and your shitty opinion isn't going to change that. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. But don't go see them live just to tell them how much you don't like them. That's called being an asshole. And they're not going to bother with the opinion of some asshole.

  • @Virus940

Constructive criticism makes me an asshole right? I love this band, and their music would be all the better with deeper vocals. As a musician myself I absolutely -adore- constructive criticism, as it helps me improve or at least think about potential changes for the better.

  • @Cagedand3nRaged You really think the vocals should be deeper? I think it kinda adds to the ambiance and mystery behind the music. There's already so much going on musically that everything blends together, and I personally think changing the vocal octave would distort or possibly ruin the ethereal sounds they've got, at least with this song.

  • @Cagedand3nRaged Really? The vocals as they are, are perfect, not just in mood and ambiance, but the fact that in combination with the low 7 string tones, it sounds more whole and it broadens the spectrum of pitch. It's quite literally an ear-full. I like the variety of sound, it makes all the difference. To me it's the equivalent of taking out the bass player, it simply sounds empty, like it's missing something, or taking away the cymbals or high hat. It is simply best this way, no doubt.

  • @hey10674

The higher vocals make an otherwise 'blue', magnetic song, a bright and repelling one. The vocal contrast to the deeper guitars in this case detracts from the attractive quality they had had in their demo tapes, and that was that the music would really penetrate your thoughts, whereas now they sort of consume your auditory 'space' and it's thought provoking, spellbinding nature is lost to what is now just sound.
