You might want to check out boulevard nights which was a classic lower film that started a lot of the Chicano life style from back in the days. I have many friends who would not agree with this film title you given it based on the style of the movie

I’m a proud Mexican American the youngest of 8, my oldest brother frank went to Mission high with Carlos Santana. Mission st @ 24th street was fun cruising around when you were 15 with a drivers permit and your first car was a blue bomb 2 door coupe, La Mission @ 24th street in the 80’s was so packed on cruise nights that the cops ordered to shut it down. Later the city posted no cruising signs

I am from AZ and have been to San Francisco 4 times, the last time lived there for three mons. The city is,has and will always be more liberal then Phoenix and AZ will ever be. I grew up queer, a white guy who has been into low riding since the 70's and who grew up in a Mexican gang neighbor hood and had to fight a lot of Chicanos and Whites because I was white and into low riders and listened to oldies. I would have given anything to have lived there in the "70"s and "80"s.

I just saw this movie last night in West Covina AMC though I'm not sure where I stand on homosexuality I loved this movie. I you wanted to affect someonesoul you did. LOVED the refletion shot of the son & the bombs cruising The music OMG where can I get it. The discussion about praying for the son to just live tears fell I gave birth to a sick child. I disagree with some posters analysis of the film. Yes, San Francisco has a gay community BUT the media tend to focus on WHITE GAY PEOPLE. In this movie La Mission the focus is on a Latino gay man and that's rare in a Hollywood film.

The issue of homosexuality and masculinity in communities of colour are serious.

This movie is very deep and why are people trying to ignore the issue of homosexuality in Latino culture? The movie seems powerful. I think people should give the movie a chance.

@JordanjamesX Quinceañera is the Southern California counterpart to La Mission. This movie gives the same SF stereotype, its not about gay people. Its about stereotypes. Not everyone in SF is gay. Spike Lee's Sucker Free was a better movie though even that was a little bit inaccurate. The White kid and his family moved out of the Mission to the Point, because the Mission was getting expensive. Though its really the Latino's that are being pushed out, not whites like it should in the movie.

But movies like this are the reason why many people think San Francisco is mostly gay. And when u tell them its not, they think its 40% gay.
