I disagree with David McCormack. Not only do I think all players--pro and amateur--should only be able to use one brand of discs--but the players should not even be allowed to think about other companies and if they do, they spend at least a year in jail. We need to draw a line. Sure, Mr McCormack is using logic and rational thinking, But if we all use only one brand, then the companies win which means we all lose. Yay!!!
It is obvious that eventually Dave McCormack will be the most successful Disc Golf pioneer that ever lived. I would like to know his opinion on how the format of the USDGC changed.
awesome....well put. I agree. There are discs of Innova that I love, and discs from Discraft that I love. I can't replace my drivers I: Destroyer, Wraith, Valk, Beast, Roadrunner, and I couldn't replace all my Discraft: XL, Stalker, Impact, Buzzz, Meteor.
I love those discs. anyway, glad to hear this. Sounds like a cool dude. Now I want some Gateway too. smart guy
exactly. i hate when people rip on the different companies. i have dga, gateway, innova and discraft in my bag. all in what you like. thumbs up david mcCormack!
What is so funny about a Innova Birdie? I have a yellow one in my arsenal. I do not use it much anymore, but it is still there. Usually use an Aviar now.
I have a innova birdie putter red I don't use it for putting because it is way to slick it makes a great flying floater from 150. But the wizard from gateway now that's a putter. Also now I would not be with out my Element a very predictable easy to throw stays on line mid range from gateway. Keep up the great work Dave!!
But I guess I have an advantage I live in St Louis and like supporting my local guys:) and can go by there factory and pick up any disc they make and try it out that day.
After watching this video, I ordered a Gateway Diablo DT to try it out. It is actually a very nice disc. I normally use a Innova Champion Starfire, or my Innova star Wraith. The diablo seems to drive alot better through windy conditions.
I'll say this right now. Gateway putters are amazing, most consistent things i've ever thrown. their midranges will never leave my bag, and they are truely making a power players line of consistent discs. the diablo and illusion will always have a spot in my bag as does the Eagle-X, the Xtreme, and the Challenger. but I have not seen a better disc mold come from anyone else than gateway :)
My bag is all Innova. I just happen to have found success with discs which are coincidentally from the same company. The idea you'd gain a competitive advantage via the ability to throw several companies is theoretically sound, but in reality, the equipment is only as good as the player. It's all about what you feel comfortable throwing and then throwing the discs a LOT to the point of predictability. Gateway makes quality putters, but I've never found anything as solid as my Innova Birdie.
Your bag is probally all innova because of the same reason my bag is all Innova right now. 95% of stores that carry disc golf supplies other than the very few pro shops only carry Innova. Until I saw this video I've never even heard of Gateway. The only brands I knew were Discarft and Innova.
No. I actually manage a Sporting Goods store. We carry Aerobie, Aoteroa, Disc Mania, Discraft, Gateway, Innova, Latitude 64, Little Flyer,Millienium and Quest discs. I recently added a Discraft Flick to my bag, but it's a rare throw for me. I like Gateway's Soft Magic, but I prefer both Innova's R-Pro Aviar and my first run Innova Birdie(@GayDiscGolfer - White).
gateway has the best putters and the saber driver is also a great stright flying driver I'v got innova and gateway but my longest driver is a dga rouge long and stright
i agree with everything 100% but nothing has ruined disc golf lol. people just have there preferences and some are stubborn or are swayed by influences from better players preferences or what they have heard from them.
I agree as well, but there are too many idiots that will only go one way that I don't think that it will ever change. People who are not ignorant really do have an advantage.
But in the end, I dunno, I just feel like I don't care who makes the discs, as long as they are not DOMED as heck and has a good grip and a fast lip...I"ll throw it...
I have nothing but respect for Dave, I have spoken to him on the phone several times and he is very quick to respond to my emails. I serve a non profit youth ministry in Nebraska and Dave sells us discs at reduced prices so we can get discs in more kids hands and further the sport. We don't make Dave tons of money, but he always takes time to answer my questions. We have record number of kids playing disc golf in my small town since I stumbled onto Gateway. Thanks for your support Dave. Daren
Wow, I have had nothing but awesome response from Dave. I serve in non profit youth ministry in Nebraska with a small local course and Dave has given me lots of time on the phone and is very quick to respond to my emails. Dave lets me purchase discs at reduced prices so we can reach more kids with disc golf and further the sport. I have nothing but respect for Dave and value his friendship. Daren
You know, more people would throw Gateway if actually had some customer service. I tried to start carrying Gateway's discs through multiple phone calls. I left a message with a person and on thei voicemail on seperate occasions and they never called me back. I've heard tons of bad stuff about your company since and I stopped throwing your discs. I do have innova, discraft, and daredevil in my bag tho. ;) keepin it diverse. for Dave!
well said, only using 1 brand is extremely superficial. I understand the business approach to it, but that being said - that approach is purely for profit reasons, and not for the benefit of the player or the sport. There are so many different molds & plastics out there it's silly to think that anyone should be limited, but that's the nature of the beast I suppose. It's even a regional thing with Innova vs. Discraft and what stores carry. People forget about gateway, dga, lightning, quest, etc
This is a good point. I have often felt that Innova has the best drivers, Discraft has the best mid-range, and Gateway has the GREATEST putters. I think this shows the confidence that Dave has, when it comes to his company. Keep pushing the boundaries, Dave!!!
@DiscGolfMan you sound like a person who is very naive.....Dave has done more for the sport than we will ever understand. Respect is due!!

Maybe nake some lighter weight.
