I would try to train the events as much as possible. It looks like you are on the right track. I will probably be at that competition, make sure you come introduce yourself!
I'm looking to get into strongman, if you don't mind me asking, what's your diet like? As in what should I eat and how long should I train to maximise my ability to pack on muscle? I'm not bothered if I get a bit fat in the process so long as I put on muscle.
I've heard the best routine is 4 days per week of weight training and 1 day event training, with 2 days rest, is this true?
