Sorry...I think it's nothing more than the same licks he plays on every song thrown on a Beatle classic making it sound like everything else SRV did. If there weren't vocals here, I would bet most people would never know it's Taxman. And that's a shame.
the first time I heard his him play, I was like who was that ? And now I can"t get enough! I play his music every day! The music world will never forget you! Thanks!
Incredible performance by SRV. I was at this recording session - what a mind blowing experience. The band had a ping pong table set up in the studio when they weren't feeling inspired. Firestation Studio San Marcos, Texas 1987 or '88.
The vibe and feel to this song is incredible but apparently the people who are arguing can't tap into it. And seek attention instead of this amazing music.
I think I am going to make this my theme song regarding the IRS and the FED. I already have a Godzilla doll sitting on my issues regarding the money changers. OOOh now did you see how I spelled that. GODzilla. Hmmmm on that concept. Oh maybe God has a new name that we can add to the bible.
This(taxman) is actually the first Stevie Ray Vaughan song I ever heard. My mom had his greatest hits cd, and I listened to it on a whim, and this was number one on the cd. Loved SRV ever since.
listening to both versions back to back they almost sound totally different Stevie's version just seems so raw and more mean than the beatles version. but they are still both great
@scottladoucheable Yeah! I even closed my eyes.My hearing was like amplifiers.A wave of the hand from some magic woman after date rap was put in my beer to add to it by the barmaid.
I am soooooooooo glad Stevie didn't stick with David Bowie. Could you imagine the blessings we would have missed out on because of a man who likes to wear makeup! Stevie Ray Vaughan, thank you for sharing your love through that guitar. Love you
Who else could dress like a pimp with shiny metallic lettering on a beat up 59 Srat and pull it off like the bad ass SRV? He was as good as it gets...heart and soul!
i'm so glad stevie got clean before he died. we have lost SO MANY great artists to drugs and alcohol. i'm just glad Stevie showed so many the way out. to bad others couldn't have done likewise (Cobain comes to mind). RIP stevie. thanks!
I can't call this a cover by any stretch. It's a reinvention, a correction. It takes what sounded like a shitty written stoner song and gave it soul and gusto. A cover, it is not.
I agree with you that this song is more of a reinvention than a cover. But I like both versions very much. Both have their charms and unique musical qualities.
Thanks for posting this video. It is almost April 15 again so perfect timing. I was lucky enough to see and hear him live at Alpine Valley (the night before he died.) Such a loss; but his music lives on!
taxman is the first song srv recorded after he cleaned up, and correct me if i'm wrong but i think it's the only song where stevie has dubbed a second vocal..."ill tax the street, ill tax your seat, ill tax your heat, ill tax your feet" is an overdub.

In my opinion, Stevie Ray Vaughan was the greatest man to ever play a guitar.
Its a real shame that he died a few months before I was born, but my dad saw him twice.
