  • I wish I could of record the most pathetic recruit in Platoon 3241. Our platoon 3243 was waiting to get our hair cut and this Recruit from 41 was refusing to get his hair cut because it hurts him too much. So our drill instructors tried to get him to and yelling at him and then he started to cry and drill instructors were laughing their asses off and whats even more a civilian girl came out of the store and gave him a hug infront of the DIs lol they had a blast after that.. 500 word limit =\

  • saintrambone, your a fucking moron, you have the balls to type that crap over a computer, but standing face to face with a soldier or Marine, youd rather piss yourself I bet, youre probably some stupid ass 12 year old from Europe who like boot boy said, is just a stupid ass hippy follower, get a life, read about America, and its brave soldiers and Marines, and give them the respect they deserve.

  • Wow!... GOD BLESS AMERICA (and you)...

  • saintrambone, when you get to hell I believe you'll find plenty of company from all the people of the same ilk as yourself. You should repent now. I suggest going to see the nearest Marine, repeat what you just said and he or she will be more than happy to adminster your last rites and even send you packing to the afterlife free of charge.

  • I was a marine and in bootcamp it was real hard at first to speak very fast and recuset something when you have 3-4DI's yellin in your face... man!

  • Someone just brought this to my attention:

angrymc3 is a terroist from Iran and he has no problem admitting it just look at his profile. Hes the reason why Muslims are hated worldwide. I think everyone should pay him a little visit and let him know that his day is coming..especially when I get to Iraq. ITS ON BITCH!!!

  • My legs prevented me from being able to continue my training i had to under go 4 surgeries 2 since my date to leave for bootcamp back in july of 06 and another 2 more in october so to all the ones out there. So much respect to those that have completed the training

  • Buawaahahahahahahaha that is soo funny, thanks for the post gj.

  • wow that is crazy i can not believe my bro went trough that man that must have been crazy butlike they say the few the proud marines do or die semper fi

  • And there's NO comeraderie, initiative and Brotherhood GREATER than United States Marines.

    Semper Fi, Devil Dogs!

  • Wotan: "softer" training? WHY? You think the enemy faced in combat will be "soft"? Combat isn't a walk through a sim game, it's harsh & real & danerous. USMC training isn't church camp with cookies & milk. It's training to keep you ALIVE.

THINK, people, don't just sing Kumbaya. Even the ***k-***k games Drill Instructors play have a purpose - even if it's to teach you how to handle mind games. SUCK IT UP.

  • Sorry to answer you so late <i>usmcholmans</i>, but you commented on the general box instead of the reply and I lost track of this videopage. If you would've red my comments more carefully you would know that I never advocated 'softer' training per se, but a more gradual one. I think this 'shock and awe' training method which the recruit is rushed through to save money and time, hide certain serious inefficiencies.

  • Wotan, what makes you think the Corps does training this way to "save time and money"? To make a basically-trained Marine takes 13 weeks at a cost of about $. The S&A levels the field - no spoiled brats or poor homies...they are all worthless pukes till they are MARINES.

What inefficiencies do you mean? Can you explain in detail how "gradualness" would improve upon what the Corps has been doing better than anyone for over 231 years?

  • I omitted the cost: about $15K to train one recruit - a bargain IMO. You should try speaking with as many of our Marines as you can. I'd wager that most wouldn't change a bit of the methods.

  • You've lowered your expectation pretty drastically vis à vis young Americans? And Europeans say Americans are misguidedly self-inflated! It's still Americans the world calls on to bail them out. You scoff at our young people, yet just as in WWII many honorable American kids serve, and are willing to fight & die for you. We saved the world back then & would do it again in a heartbeat. Kindly drop the pseudo-superiority, if you please.

  • That message was not directed at you Madam, because you -being about my age,- can no longer be regarded as a young American any more. I'm sorry Madam but whatever you mention in your reply sound to me like a regurgirated propaganda. You didn't saved the world during the 2nd WW. Indeed if you would've been alone, you would've surely lost it. You <b>together</b> with other allies won.

  • The heaviest brunt of the struggle by the way was borne by the Sovietunion, even though Hollywood somehow forgets to mention that. The rest of your blabber just as non sensical as the whole. I don't give a flying figleaf, how you justify the Americans ceaseless wars around the Globe. (It is seventy and counting from the second WW) or their over 560 military bases worldwide.

  • I'm deeply sceptical, that they want to die for my freedom, and beside I don't wish them to do so. They are more likely dieing and injuring themselves, for the interest of a small wealthy elite, among them quite a few warprofiteers.

Check USMC Brigadier Smedley Butler's classic: 'War is a Racket' in this regard, wikipedia will give you the link, under his name.

  • I know who Commandant Butler was, and his is a wonderful book. I too think profiteering from war is one of the most despicable sins in modern days. Neither of that changes the fact that our Marines don't die for the rich. They kill the enemy and fight & die for their Brothers.

  • By the way. you sound fair to drowning in regurgitated political posturing yourself. From whence does your disdain for honorable young heroes spring?? You're not disrespecting an idea here, buddy - you're dissing amazing youmg men and women. That you are one of many who unintentionally benefit from their sacrifice is something you should try to live up to.

  • I'll add that you might want to go back and study your WWII history. While it's true that the USSR lost more people than any other nation in that conflict, it is also true that if not for the United States extending Lend-Lease to them BEFORE Pearl Harbor, they'd be speaking German today. Let's face it, without the industrial and military might of the U.S.A., the Axis would have won that war!

  • I haven't necessary meant only the Soviet losses. It is better indicator, that 70% of the German Armed Forces with its allies, were committed in a life-and-death struggle in the <i>Ostfront</i> all the way from '41 to '44, while the Yanks hastily trained their troops, who were green as grass.

  • The rest of your input, I don't dispute. In any case, expropriating the Victory solely for yourself is deeply unjustifiable and ungracious act, which -if may I add- Americans are notorious to comitting time and again.

  • Where did I ever "solely expropriate victory" for America? You sure do love to cling to your "America Sucks" generalizations, wotan20. It's hardly an intelligent base of discussion to continuously accuse people of being wrong or say they have what you think are deficiencies of moral character simply because they are from another country. THAT is truly being deeply unjustifiable & ungracious.

  • Where you claimed, that your country 'saved the World' during the 2nd WW, without ever bothering yourself to mention that you fought together with allies, who you joined over 2 years late, and who have happened to bore the brunt of the fight. To me, (and the rest of the World), that is an all too often experienced behaviour, to put it more harshly: Typical American arrogance.

The rest of your comment is just about the same thing, you accuse me of: platitudes and generalizations.

  • BTW. Although generalization is getting a lot of bad rap from mediocre minds lately, none of us could live without it, even if we tried, -and that's includes the critics. It is an integral part of the cognitive thoughtprocess, together with abstraction.

  • Sir, after much patience and heartfelt deliberation, I've come to the conclusion, as I'm sure almost everyone else here has, that you are a colossal waste of time.

You'd better be thankful that the U.S.A. isn't one-tenth as bad as you think we are - the rest of the world would be in a whole other dimension of hurt. As it is, we're pretty dang great about it all.

Have a nice life - and try to get that boulder of jealous resentment off your shoulder before it crushes you.

  • Thanks for the dramatic finale Madam. It was quite entertaining. Your self-righteousness is a class-act in itself: So it's not enough that the International Community have to endure the endless bullying, wars, military occupations, indiscriminate bombings and killings, CIA assisted millitary coup d'états with death-squads and all, but we should also thank you for it?

  • Madam, the implication of your statement is so uniquely ridiculous, that if it wouldn't have some tragic connotation, it would be worthy to be a routine line for stand-up comedians, so the half-drunk patrons, can laugh themselves silly.

Let me end this exchange too with a departing thought and wish: First of all, I too wish you happy life, and I wish from the depth of my heart, that your son survive the coming ordeal, intact in body and in spirit.

  • One thing though: It is not without serious consequences and repercussions, that America has disregarded the Founding Fathers' advice against foreign entanglement. They had seen long line of other nations, -every one of them with long and proud traditions,- who exhausted and destroyed themselves throughout history, in their futile quest for hegemony.

  • Madam, I appreciate your writing as a lovely stylistic exercise, but not much more. Your position is different, because you have a heavy personal stake, your prescious child. I don't wish ill will neither to you, nor your loved ones. It's true, I feel deep animosity toward the American political system, and to what extent the country let itself be down, in just about all aspect of its life. This however doesn't mean that I wish harm to it's people.

I suggest, we closed down this conversation.

  • No more than I already mentioned, this format doesn't lend itself well to long winded explanations and dissertations.

  • True, hence my three posts back to back. But it's still worthy of discussion. What about gradualness? What inefficiencies? And why the disdain and misjudgment of American kids? We put out some damn fine heroes - just look at any Graduation Day at the Depots at PI or SD.

  • ahhh the memories iam glad i went through it all i now know i can handle any stress in fact i owe my marine corp train for why during my work as an ER nurse i dont stress out like other lol thank you DI Sgt fundaburg ill never forget you

  • Why do recruits sound off? So when in combat, they can be heard by their squad. Believe me, it works very well. But its true, looking back everything in Boot Camp is for a purpose. And finally, if you Want to compare Marines to other nations special forces.... then why not compare Marine Force Recon. That would be a better comparison and I would wager anything on the Marines in that comparison.

  • Marine corp training is built upon years and years of trial and error, every training exercise has a purpose.

The tremendous pressure put on recruits is so they can "think" and "act" while in the midst of TOTAL chaos.

  • First thing, if you call this barbarism or you couldn't possibly have gone through military training. Or maybe you went through training that gives you the weekends off. Theres a purpose to everything the DIs do from the way you tie your laces to the way you sit on the floor. Second, I've read so many threads where someone having no military experience, are comparing Marine recruits to special forces. Navy seals are not fresh out recruits nor are army rangers. Big difference!

  • Cuz when marines are getting killed, someone needs to take charge to save lives, and if you don't know how to handle a little bit of screaming and hazing then you definitely will crack in such a situation, and other people's lives will be the price to pay.

    Cpl. Fox, USMC

    3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines.

  • Thanks for stating your position with reason and eloquence <i>cdfox85.</i> Yes you can say, that these methods don't warm my heart at all. Still, I think the difference between us, can not be simplified to the point that it would mean, that I would advocate 'softer' training. I also wish to see disciplined, tough but also intelligent soldiers, with strong sense of comradery, and initiative. The qualifier I would like to introduce, is <b>gradualness.</b>

  • I haven't see the comparative studies, (they are probably classified anyway) between the Army Rangers and the Marines, but I am confident that the Rangers are comparable in every aspects with the Marines.

It is true, that it takes them longer time, but on the other hand they introduce hardships slower and more gradually,

  • which I think in the long run is better, than Marine training, which exposes raw recruits immediately with all the hysterics, in order to make them 'tougher'. Again, comparative studies should be used to decide these questions.

    Tom (<i>Schütze</i> ☺

  • wotan you are so from Canada.

  • Only partly true, sonny. I was born and lived in central-Europe in the first 26 yrs. of my life. So you need to pigeonhole me somewhat differently.

BTW. That itself is a pretty lazy way intellectuaally, to dismiss someone else's argument, but that shouldn't bother you too much anyway. I've already lowered my expectation pretty drastically <i>vis à vis</i> young Americans.

  • I've read of the Army softening their training especially recently, and it's sad. They say that the recruits respond and learn better, and yes that's true in a booksmart sense, but they will not know what to do when the shit hits the fan.

That's why this "barbarianism" or "naziism" as you call it is a part of Marine Corps training.

  • Take an army soldier who has been coddled and not really yelled at throughout his training, and take a marine who, from day 1 in boot camp all the way up until (MAYBE) he picks up Lance Corporal, has been constantly yelled at and berated and had discipline beaten into him. Shoot at them, set off bombs, etc. etc. etc. and the one that keeps his cool will most definitely be the Marine.

  • Wotan, if the quality of the training of our armed service members is on the decline, it is because of the SOFTENING of the training, not because they are being demoralized and degraded. If there is one thing that you learn in Marine Corps boot camp it's how to operate well under pressure.

  • thats my drill instructor, Drill Instructor SGT. Mondloch.

    FOX 2123

  • I volunteer to give him English lessons and speech-therapy, such as proper pronunciation and intonation, and also help him to prevent unnecessary gabbling.

  • This was right at the exit of the Recruit PX in San Diego. If you're planning on going into recruit training to become a Marine, plan on being very disciplined, or you will be IT'ed hourly. I didn't get IT'ed very often, because I adapted quickly. Learn, and live. Yessir, Nosir, Eyeeyesir. Loud, distinct, and quick.

  • the reason the british army and marines are so much better is because there instructors have sence not makieng people run back and forward for thier amusement thts why there better

  • wtf??? u guys wouldnt follow us into the desert cuz the sand was blowing too hard!!! only good thing i can say about royal marines is they can fucking hump thier asses off, now stfu and go drink ur tea!!

  • Hah ha ha ha, oorah there 0311 motivator! I was an 0311, who are you with? Stay safe!

  • ahhh the good ole days....too slow, get back! hahah

  • Many happy times at the MCRD PX. If you were lucky, you got cough drops. So many happy memories....

Side-straddle hops right now, push right now, side-straddle hops right now, push right now. Good, take your time, too.

I'm wondering where he got those vids...

  • what platoon and company, and when? that was my house too! 1065 D co. Oorah

  • that building in the background being was the building i stayed in for boot camp

  • what platoon and company, and when? that was my house too! 1065 D co. Oorah

  • i was in hotel co. plt. 2037 we graduated nov. 17th

  • i was hotel co. if you guys were delta then i think u guys where one week ahead of us and u guys graduated early cause you guys werent special enough to graduate on the marines B-day. hahah that's why my DI's told us

  • what platoon and company, and when? that was my house too! 1065 D co. Oorah

  • Thats fox CO. Not sure what Plt, the DI's move around alot, but that tine skinny one is a monster. He IT'ed me all the time becasue one time i puked on his boots.

  • I made the mistake of letting out a gigle on the first day when we got dropped to training company... oops! It was a LONG 3 months after that. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Semper Fi Devil!

  • Awwwww, they must've dug DEEP in your ass for that!

  • Like I said, a LONG 3 months. I ad my name up on the quarter deck in recruit tape... also a stain of where I had sweat. Everytime anybody got quarterdecked, I had to go too. I learned military bearing FAST!

  • WIs this 2006? If so my bro is at mcrd, started in August

  • Good, don't sound off too. Get back. Okay run. No, get back.

  • back and forth... like our good friend the cat

  • that drill seargent in the end of the video walkin has a bad ass walk haha

  • Drill INSTRUCTOR.

  • ORAH KILLERS.

  • if you haven't gone to MCRD and undergone Recruit Training, don't question how the yelling and everything else the DIs do makes a great soldier...by the way, we're not soldiers, we're Marines. oohrah! Semper Fi Devildogs.

  • NO DOUBT!!!!

  • Help me out on this one <i>vdubkafer</i>, so I can understand: Is that the difference between wound up robots and New Age barbarians?

  • wotan20, from the responses I've read from you, I have decided that you have not gone through any military training, so your opinion is appreciated, but you really have no clue why the DIs make the recruits do so many "pointless" things during boot camp. EVERYTHING that we do has a purpose and a point and although you may not understand it at the time, when you graduate and get to your unit, it all starts to make sense.

  • Vdubkafer, thanks for your polite and informative reply, but I need to correct you: I was a conscripted soldier in a Central-European army from 1978-1980 (24 months). I'm sad to say, but my BMT wasn't that much different from the one depicted here either. I had my strong personal opinion about it then, and without a shred of change I have that still.

    Tom, (Shütze)

PS. I kept that glorious rank throughout my military carrier, and I damn proud of it too! ☺

  • haha i remember those days all too well

  • god i have been there!

  • "Get away, nope too slow, get back". Ah, the memories.

  • go away, get back, go away, get back---ahh, the good ol' days...

I suggest you freakin' nasties who are trying to go to boot camp say your prayers because if you survive that long you have 13 weeks of misery and hell ahead of you...welcome to the land of paper cuts on top of rugburns ladies...hahahaha

  • I was a "hat" in San Diego "89-'91 and it still amazes me what you can get someone to accomplish with a little encouragement. Ohhhh Rahhhh! Too slow, GET BACK!

  • lmao

  • i was in there for 9 months, u just learn real quick, within hours to be able to keep bearing, its the whole point of the boot camp is mental strength

  • man that's gonna suck. i can never keep a strait face if someone is in my face, they don't even have to say anything. that happend to me last week. how do you not laugh if someone is in your face like that?

  • HAHAAHAHAHAAHAAHAAA!!! D.Is ARE THE FUNNIEST MOTHERF-FUCKERS ON EARTH.

  • how do that make one a great soldier ? i mean training is not humiliating. It reminds a documentary about some russian special forces, the guys there just go mentaly broken instead of becoming smart warriors.

  • If you fuck something up they make you do it till you do it right, and make you do it right till it's a habit that you do it right.

Aristotle once said, "We Are What We Do Repeatedly, Excellence,Then is NOT an Act But a Habit."

The purpose of what they do is to ingrain into you a manner of behavior in which you can not only follow orders, but eventually become a leader. They're trying to squeeze the "civilian" out of them and force in the Marine.

  • Not withstanding my deep respect for Aristotle, this is but one (and a controversial way) to train a warrior. IMO it is also one of the most idiotic ones too. You make your recruit behave like a scared schoolboy, who is the laughing stock of all. That is meaningless, unjustifiable and actually counter-productive.

  • What makes you an expert in training warrior? The many hours you have spent playing Counter Strike? Everything is done in bootcamp with a purpose. The purpose of this training is to instill instant willingness and obedience to orders. If you think this is a harsh method of training a warrior, you should think of how the russians, germans, chinese, and some of the greatest warriors in history were trained. Not to mention training methods during WW2 of our military.

  • No, but thank you to take a wild guess. My methodology is simple: I compare the training methods of other Armies who train better soldiers than the Americans, (who are at best, in the midrange and keep declining) and I concluded that they have better training methods than you. I'm not enthusiastic either about all that 'instant willingness' and 'obedience' you mentioned. Firstly, those qualities will produce you mindless robots without initiatives, definitely on the low end of the scale.

  • Secondly, it is also dangerous and insulting. Although discipline is important, and war is not done by commitees, but you should also remember, that even the lowest member of the Armed Forces is still supposed to be a citizen soldier of a Democratic society, who should be respected for his role, and also for his right, to disobey an unlawful order.

  • These are the qualities in their trainings, which I don't see, but I see instead, something which is quite identical how a Nazi, Communist or a totalitarian system would train their soldiers.

  • I am surprised no one has jumped your throat about you calling them soldiers. Soldiers are Army. Marines are Marines not soldiers

  • dude they arnt soldier there marines

  • Excellent

  • whenever the other d.i leaves real fast, its cause he's about to bust out laughing

  • Sucks for that guy...

  • i could never stop laughing, but i payed the price...

  • sometimes it's funny to the recruit when you're not the one being screwed with. i smirked a couple times, but got caught. not fun. =(

  • I know it's not funny when you're the recruit.. But what that DI did, made me laugh! lol
