The M&P's trigger is odd and takes some time to get used to it. I've shot my wife's M&P a few times and it still feels funky to me, she's used to it however. The gun is a little muzzle light which I feel effects my accuracy a little more then I would like, then again I feel this way about all polymer frame handguns, this opinion is biased as I only own and normally shoot 1911s and other all metal guns. my first time every shooting a gun i got 5 right in the middle with 5 out of 10 shots at about 20 yards member first time ever shooting a gun so i think im a pretty good shot but really good review i think im going to buy it now
Heads up to anyone looking to buy an M&P in Massachusetts. This is a DOUBLE ACTION ONLY pistol. My dad (And Yes, I AM A KID!) Has the Sub-compact M&P for concealed carry. This gun is great. Easy to field strip, great with many ammo types. (Except steel cased, but all guns hate that, lol) Great gun though. The under-rail comes on the gun, so if you want a laser, or a flashlight, it is capable of that too.
great stuff, this has been my dream gun for over a year now. slow to get my permit but as soon as I do, I'm plunking down for one. 20 + years racing motocross and I can LOOK at a machine and tell if its right, the MnP IS right.
This is my first gun as well... I love it! Very pleased with everything about this model: quality of manufacture, capacity, accuracy, feel/look/styling, etc. I have (since purchasing it a few months ago) just added the Crimson Trace custom laser sight grip to it a couple of weeks ago. WOW!!! What a combination for personal recreation / home defense!
Great review! I just purchased my first handgun as well and went with the M&P9 as well for a lot of the same reasons as you. What a great weapon, thinking of buying the M&P40 next.
Hey man. Great review! I just wanted to let you know that leaving the magazine loaded will not wear the spring out.
My father keeps his 1911 loaded all of the time, as I keep my Mini 14 and AR15 magazines loaded all the time, and after thousands of rounds I have never had one malfunction with the magazine, or anything for the matter. Just wanted to let you know that!
I used to think glock had the best 9mm for the money....Now the sw mp9 gets it for me.I will not buy anymore glocks as of this year.Still have them like them, too many issues of late.Plus I really like the fact it is a U.S. made pistol. The thing that got me is I have big hands and now not only does the grip fit,the angle is so much better.
ILL TAKE A 15-17 ROUND SEMI-AUTO OVER A REVOLVER ANYTIME FOR HOME OR CARRY....THE ONLY ADVANTAGE TO A REVOLVER IS JUST ABOUT 100 % RELIABILITY BECAUSE THERE ARE FEWER PARTS TO FAIL.....AND I PERSONALLY WOULD NEVER GO BY WHAT THEY SAY AT THE RANGES THAT RENT WEAPONS BECAUSE FROM MY EXPERIENCE THEY DONT CLEAN THE GUNS AS OFTEN AS THEY SHOULD AND THE RELIABILITY GOES RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW WHEN YOU DONT TAKE CARE OF YOUR WEAPONS.....SO IT COMES DOWN TO DOING YOUR OWN HOMEWORK....S&W GETS IT RIGHT !!!
@BIGAL1214 Turn off the caps lock your not impressing anyone and considering they own a wide range of weapons and equipment i would trust some one who is LICENSED TO SELL WEAPONS and revolvers offer simplicity reliability and if you haven't noticed 9 +P can hurt but my 44 mag will drop on first shot and its the magnum cartridge of a revolver that people use them so much especially when home defense comes down to seeing then shooting not sparying magazines in the home.
@williamED15 WELL MISTER ED, LET ME JUST START BY SAYING THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT MY CAPS LOCK AND HOW IM NOT IMPRESSING ANYONE....YOU ARE JUST ANOTHER JERK WHO DOESNT KNOW HOW TO TALK TO PEOPLE !!!.....SO YOU WANT TO TRUST A GUN STORE/ RENT-A-GUN HUH ?....I SUPPOSE YOU TRUST YOUR GOVERNMENT AND THE CHURCH ALSO ?.....9+P CAN HURT ???...HAVE YOU EVER BEEN SHOT BY ONE ? I THINK IT DOES A LITTLE MORE THAN HURT...I MIGHT EVEN SAY THAT IT HAS KILLED MAYBE A FEW PEOPLE !
@williamED15 SURE, A 44 MAG FOR HOME DEFENSE IS GREAT, BUT I DONT KNOW MANY PEOPLE WHO CAN HANDLE ONE GOOD ENOUGH TO USE IT IN A CRISIS SITUATION, AND LETS NOT FORGET YOU MUST GET THE JOB DONE WITHIN 6 SHOTS.......AND AFTER THAT, IF YOU DONT HIT YOUR TARGET YOU ARE THEN KILLED AND NOW THEY HAVE A GREAT GUN TO GO AND TERRORIZE OTHERS WITH....SO FOR THAT REASON I WOULD PREFER AT THE VERY LEAST A 9MM WITH 18 ROUND CAPACITY....IF YOU CANT HIT YOUR TARGET AFTER 18 ROUNDS, YOU SHOULDNT OWN A GUN !
@williamED15 BUT BEING OTHER THAN A MERE MORTAL YOURSELF AND BEING CAPABLE OF HANDLING A 44 MAGNUM IN ANY SITUATION I CAN SEE WHY YOU WOULD CHOOSE SUCH A WEAPON FOR HOME DEFENSE.....THE EASE OF USE, THE SPEED TO WHIP THE GUN AROUND, THE NON-RECOIL, THE HIGH CAPACITY OF ROUND, ITS NO WONDER MORE PEOPLE DONT KEEP ONE AS HOME DEFENSE.....AND IFI REALLY WANTED TO BE SURE SOME DIRTBAG ISNT GOING TO LEAVE MY HOUSE AFTER BREAKING IN ILL THROW A 33 ROUND MAG IN MY GLOCK AND START MAKING CHEESE !
I OWN A SMITH AND WESSON 500, 50 CALIBER REVOLVER......AND IM PRETTY DAMN PROFICIENT WITH IT, BUT IT IS NOT MY HOME DEFENSE WEAPON, SIMPLY BECAUSE OF TOO MUCH POWER AND NOT ENOUGH ROUNDS...WHAT IF THERE IS MORE THAN ONE PERSON MEANING TO DO ME HARM ?.....I USE MY GLOCK 30, OR MY GLOCK 17 WITH 18 ROUND CAPACITY AND FLASHLIGHT FOR HOME DEFENSE...CALL ME CRAZY...BUT I GUESS MY CAPS LOCK DETERMINES MY MENTAL STATE.
@BIGAL1214 No i ve fired enough nine mil to know its not an offensive weapons especially in the hand of a civilian a lot of my friends are cops and they ve told me of there skirmishs with 9 mils and to be honest if you can kill or maine and intruder with a 6 shot magnum especially when it comes to the sake of your family you shouldnt be reproducing and fact of the matter is i dont trust the government and i really dont trust religion but when it comes to a mans livly hood to sell weapons
@BIGAL1214 i wouldnt think he would lie because that would affect bussiness and honestly the layout of a home defense mean you know the layout of your home you retrieve your weapon and shoot the bastard once you identify they are a threat. if there is more then one person i doubt that they wont flee the moment you shoot and kill one of there colleges especially when they hear the sound of a 44 magnum
@williamED15 OK MISTER ED.......YOU SEEM TO LEAVE OUT IMPORTANT LETTERS IN YOUR SPELLING AS TO WHERE I CAN NOT TELL WHAT YOU ARE SAYING EXACTLY.....YES, 9MM ISNT THE CHOSEN ROUND FOR COPS AND HOME DEFENSE, BUT THAT WASNT MY POINT......MY POINT IS 18 ROUNDS OF 9MM IS BETTER THAN 6 ROUNDS OF 44 MAG IN THE HANDS OF AN AVERAGE HOME OWNER...AND WE CANT "HOPE" THAT IF TWO GUYS CAME INTO YOUR HOUSE AND ONE GOT SHOT THAT MAYBE THE OTHER ONE WOULD FLEE.
@ytertyu ANOTHER SISSY WHO THINKS CAPS IS SHOUTING......WHY ARE YOU EVEN LOOKING AT GUN VIDEOS, SHOULDNT YOU BE IRONING SOMETHING OR WATCHING ATLANTA HOUSEWIVES ?.....YOU ARE JUST ANOTHER FOLLOWER WHO SAW SOMEONE TELL SOMEONE WHO WAS USING CAPS THAT THEY WERE SHOUTING AND THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY COOL TO TELL SOMEONE THAT, BEHIND THE SECURITY OF A COMPUTER SCREEN OF COURSE.......DONT KNOW WHY I EVEN REPLIED TO YOU, I DONT USUALLY TAKE WOMEN SERIOUSLY.
@williamED15 ALSO, IF YOU THINK GUN SHOP OWNER DONT LIE, THEN YOU HAVE A BAD OPINION OF PEOPLE.......MY POINT ON THAT WAS THAT SOME, NOT ALL, GUN RENTAL SHOPS DO NOT CLEAN THEIR WEAPONS AS OFTEN AS THEY SHOULD, THEY HAVE ADMITTED IT TO ME...IT WOULD TAKE THEM TOO MUCH TIME TO CLEAN ALL THE WEAPONS USED, THAT WAS THEIR EXCUSE......AND IF YOU CAN HIT A MOVING TARGET IN A HIGH STRESS SITUATION WITH A 44 MAGNUM IN A DIMLY LIT HOUSE, WELL THEN YOU ARE A BETTER MAN THAN MOST PEOPLE !
@BIGAL1214 its a 50 S&W round not an actual 50 aka 12.7 round its sound is overdramitized and 50 S&W is overkill anyway that gun is a trophy not a weapon the barrel size and weight alone make it useless in a home defense situation, keep it simple and smart and those are the rules to home defense
@williamED15 JESUS, SOME PEOPLE JUST DONT QUIT.....IM SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY ABOUT THE S&W 500.....ITS A GREAT GUN, SORT OF LIKE THE 44 MAG WAS BACK WHEN IT WAS KING.......IT WILL PUT A HALF INCH HOLE IN SOMETHING, SO YES, ITS A 50 CAL.....ITS NOT A RIFLE ROUND, BUT IT WILL BLOW SOMEONES HEAD CLEAN OFF..."sorry harry" ...I CAN WEAVER STANCE IT FROM 100 YARDS AND GET DECENT GROUPS..ITS A HUNTING GUN, ITS A TARGET GUN, IT A FREAKIN GUN....IF YOU WANT A TROPHY THEN I HOPE YOUR BOWLING TEAM WINS !
@BIGAL1214 Thats a target gun not a tatical gun it never can be anything more than that, I mean honestly can you move around your house and accuratly combat targets? The status of this argument was home defense and your on about bowling? honestly sir its inmature to have an ego as large as yours
@williamED15 YES YOU ARE RIGHT, I AM "inmature"..NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT THAT IS, BUT I MUST BE IT...YOU STARTED THIS "IMMATURE" GARBAGE SIMPLY BECAUSE I USE CAPS IN MY TYPING, AND YOU FELT THE NEED TO COME OFF AS SOME HERO OF THE NERDS AND PROCLAIM "IM NOT IMPRESSING ANYONE BY USING SAID CAPS"..YOU COULD HAVE JUST STATED YOUR CASE WITHOUT BEING SO HIGH AND MIGHTY, BUT YOU DIDNT..THEREFORE I TOOK IT UPON MYSELF TO SET YOU STRAIGHT....NOW, IF YOU EVER WANT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY, LEARN TO SPELL !!!
@BIGAL1214 hero of the nerds? your insults are more pointless then trying to reason with you honestly the guy in the video gave a great suggestion and a proven one at that and you seemed only to criticize him and me.
@williamED15 SERIOUSLY ?....ARE YOU WRITING THIS FROM A RUBBER ROOM ? I WAS DONE WITH YOU, THEN YOU COME BACK ONCE AGAIN TO MAKE YET ANOTHER STUPID COMMENT, AND MY CURSE IS I CANT LET STUPIDITY WIN....YOU TRIED TO REASON WITH ME ?...YOU START YOUR COMMENT TO ME WITH AN INSULT, AND THEN TRY TO TALK AS IF I AM THE ONE WHO IS THE DOUCHEBAG...FIRST OF ALL, TRY AND KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, SECOND, LEARN TO READ, YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT READ WHAT I WRITE VERY WELL, AND THIRD, GIVE UP.
@williamED15 NOW I KNOW WHY YOU OWN A GUN, YOU NEED TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM ALL THE FRIENDS YOU MAKE...SO GET BACK ON YOUR SMALL BUS, LICK THE WINDOWS AND LEAVE THE GUN DISCUSSIONS TO THE ADULTS...ITS PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT GIVE US RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS A BAD NAME...IF THERE IS A GOD IN HEAVEN I PRAY THAT YOU DONT WORK FOR THE N.R.A., OTHERWISE WE ARE ALL DOOMED !!!
@1StepTooFar yea i stopped after his last comment it was no longer just an intelligent argument, lol i tried sticking up for you but sorry about cloggin you comment space up nice video thanks
@williamED15 YOU ARE SUCH A WINNY SUCK ASS BITCH.....YOU STOPPED AFTER MY LAST COMMENT ????...I HAD STOPPED AFTER A MONTH. THEN YOU HAD TO CHIME BACK IN WITH YOUR 3RD GRADE WIT....GO AHEAD AND SAY YOU ARE SORRY FOR CLOGGING UP THE COMMENT SECTION.......IF YOU HAD ACTED LIKE AN ADULT IN THE BEGINNING THEN THIS WOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED...AND TO THINK, I LOWERED MYSELF TO YOUR NEANDERTHAL MENTALITY TO TEACH YOU A LESSON IN MANNERS....AND FOR WHAT.....I DONT EVEN GET A THANK YOU......NOW SCREW !!!
is there no de-cock on this gun? im looking at one myself and i shot about 100 rounds through a smith & wesson 9mm and it had a hammer release. obviously this gun dosnt have a hammer but that dosnt mean there is no de-cock on it.
@cyborg578 Looking back if I were to purchase a pistol for a home defense weapon I would buy a revolver. Leaving the magazine of the M&P loaded all the time can wear out the magazine's spring. A revolver doesn't have to worry about that. Ultimately the best home defense weapon would be a shotgun.
@1StepTooFar Can't you leave the magazine not attached to the gun and then put it in quickly if you need to? Also, I rather be able to shoot all 17 instead of 6 that most revolvers hold. Thanks for posting this video. I want to buy my first gun for home safety as well and did quite a bit of research and this gun seems like it would be the best for me. Limited recoil, very reliable, and you can add laser sights and more to this very easily.
@1StepTooFar Leaving a magazine loaded does not wear out the spring. The loading and unloading of rounds in the magazine is what wears it out, meaing when you load it up and shoot it at the range. There have been old 1911 magazines found in an attic that where loaded for 60+ years from people that have passed away that where loaded up in modern 1911s and every round fired and ejected and then the magazine still locked the slide back when it was empty.
@1StepTooFar Really dude? I have kept mags loaded for years and never had a problem!! Revolvers are a great way to go, you can really trust your life to one! And leave it loaded 14/7. The best hone defense would be a Claymore :) LOL j/k Nice pistol though, it did very well at the 09 trials! It beat every other pistol but the XD, they traded places in different categories. Both were miles ahead of all the other brands. I have shoot everything and the M&P did it right, grats.
@1StepTooFar It won't wear out the mag spring. :) Just rotate the rounds in the mag once in the while and you're good to go. Nice video review. I'm trying to decide between 9mm and .40sw. Shot both, like both, and was pretty good with both. Very nice guns.
@1StepTooFar cycling of the springs is what wears them out, and modern metallurgy allows for long lasting springs. I've left two of my glock 19 magazines loaded for almost 3 years, until last month when I decided to put new ammo in them...they shot fine, slide locked back when empty, good to go.
M&P is a great pistol, accurate, reliable, and just fun to shoot...you done good there :-)
@1StepTooFar well you have a 17 round mag you can load 12 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber for a total of 13 which would surpass a revolver. How these magazine springs are made these days that is not a real worry... Also you can buy replacement spring to maintain your mags... A lot of police departments are going to these and their weapons are carried loaded for extended periods of times. Just something to consider.
@1StepTooFar Springs don't wear out from being in a static state, either fully compressed or relaxed. People have left mags loaded for years with no ill effect on the spring. Only the repeated compression/relaxation ages the spring. Contact Wolfe Springs if you want proof.
@RainmanE350 I agree. In my growing experience I've heard that mentioned a time or two. However, I still can't wrap my head around it and when choosing a home defense gun would prefer not to have to trust a magazine spring. But you're probably right. Thanks for posting.
@1StepTooFar That's a myth that has yet to be proven. Our Mags in the Military the (M9) and (M11) were always loaded and they worked just fine. The problem with a revolver is less ammo and it takes too long to reload and in a stressful situation, your aim will not be as good as on the range shooting at a paper target that's not shooting back. The more ammo and quicker reload, the better. I will agree, the best firearm for home defense is a shotgun for house, townhome, and apartment.
If what you are thinking about is home defense...why are you thinking pistol? I mean no disrespect, but a shotgun is far more intimidating and powerful with a very low risk of over penetration and collateral damage. Just racking a shotgun is often enough to end a dangerous situation without a shot fired, and if shots ARE fired, buckshot loads tend to ensure that there is no civil suit afterward, if you take my meaning.
@IIDASHII A shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot has been proven to penetrate equal to a JHP pistol round and more than a .223 loaded with a good varmint style bullet/JHP. I never intend to "warn" someone by racking the action because if they are intent on hurting me and/or my family then I just gave them my location. Also, civil suits can be filed by family members of the deceased. While a pistol might not be the best for all HD/SD roles, a shotgun isn't the perfect solution either...
I never said its a perfect solution (the perfect solution would be you telling them to leave and turn themselves in, and them actually doing it...right), but I would definitely prefer a shotgun in my hand over a pistol when it comes to defending my home. It is WAY more powerful, and were I worried about over-penetration, I'd just use one of the larger bird shot loads instead of buckshot. As for civil suits...your chances are far better when its YOUR word against nobody's.
@tlvailco LOL. Indeed. However, the actual "mess" would be the least of one's worries in a shooting. Concerning a civil suit, that was actually advice I heard from a cop. Its surreal to me that criminals can sue and win for injuring/killing them while they INVADE your home. It creates a false moral equivalency between criminal and victim. I'm not a black and white person, but this is pretty clear cut to me. Civil suits should not be allowed if self-defense is ruled. Period.
@cyborg578 I was at my local gun store today and took a look at one. I too also have a large hand and the gun felt amazing in my hand. The only thing I didn't like is that the recess/divot/spot for your shooting hand's thumb was to shallow, Great gun!
Hey, I live in Michigan as well and I just purchased a Taurus PT 99 and I love it. A lot of people like to say that Taurus is no good but I disagree. My Taurus has performed well with never a jam up or problem. The PT 99 is made in a Baretta factory in Brazil using Baretta materials so it is basically identical to the 92 FS.
@gtvapsamtik This is a standard M&P9. The pro series has a lighter trigger pull, fiber optic sights and longer barrel and slide. Check out the S&W for more specific info though.
M&P should really improve the grip and palm swells. All three palm swells leave some pressure points when holding the grip a little tight.
H&K P30 is extremely comfortable to hold.
However, I have to say it doesn't feel as bad when in active shooting which is important.
The regular M&P sights seem to be more durable than the fiber optic one on M&P Pro. It fell once entirely off the slide and the second time fiber optic rod flew away, all under the first 1000 round.
One of the best Out-of-Box M&P 9mm reviews. Would be great if you included range time for other viewers who are on the fence in regards to what 9mm to purchase.
Picked one up a month ago and I like it...I like it a lot :) Have an H&K and Glock, but with my M&P, my hands fits around it like a glove.
Hope you have an opportunity to review the Viridian C5 Green Laser/Light when released.
Man, it's like we are twins. I just bought the gun with the same recommendations. It is my first gun ever and even the wife loves it. I have the exact same gun you have and am using it for self defense and range shooting as well. Thank you for your review and will try to do a video of my own at the range.
Sounds like your gunrange or gunshop is trying to make you spend more money at their shop. Taurus has won several "gun of the year" awards and all that nonsense. It's just personal preference, when a taurus breaks assholes jump all over it; when a glock breaks people say "Well shit it happens sometimes".
Good ammo and good mags will keep your gun shooting reliably.
I might check out the M&P for a 9mm, but I'm leaning more towards the SP2022.
@DRCsyntax The rental wall tells no lies. The reason he was directed away from Taurus and others is because they did not hold up under rental conditions. Glocks, M/Ps, and some others do. If a person is only going to put a few thousand rounds through a gun then there are many guns to choose from. But for rental only the toughest survive.
Both great options. Go to your local gun shop/range and rent them to test fire. See what feels good to shoot. They're both very reliable well made guns. Glock has a lot of accessories, the M&P has better ergonomics IMO, round counts are close to the same... I almost bought the G17 myself. You might be able to find a used G17 for less $. Good luck!
It's really a personal preference. jfizzay... it sounds like you're pretty die hard Glock! There are, however, ergonomic factors like grip angle and slide stop/release placement that may feel better to other people. As far as reliability and accuracy go I'd call it a draw. The last consideration would be trigger pull and feel... Again, personal preference. You really need to put the gun in your hand and fire some rounds to decide which system works best for you individually.
Please, elaborate on these "categories" that the Glock beats it. In every category that counts, and in ACTUAL USE, the two pistols are comparable. Anything else is hearsay, conjecture, or fanboyism. All the major companies are putting out quality full size handguns these days. These little debates are usually of little real substance. The data speaks for itself, and the data supports that both are very capable and serviceable.
@jfizzay - glock's new 4th gen has adjustable backstrap's like this , now only in G17(full size 9mm) & the G22(full size 40).. other models will be out later in the year... but the M&P is a great gun..
@jfizzay Disagree completely! I own both the Glock and the M&P and I can assure you that the M&P has many features that the Glock does not. externally the grip angle and ergonomics are far superior on the M&P. Internally the M&P has parts like the one piece steel rail system where the Glock only has rail inserts. Glocks are great guns, but S&W really did their research and designed a top notch combat pistol with the M&P. Just a pleasure to shoot.
Good review and excellent choice on the handgun. You appear to be quite knowledgeable for just purchasing your first handgun. Looks like you did your homework. Great to see that you kept your wife in mind when making the purchase. Crimson Trace makes an excellent laser sight for the M&P 9mm. Five stars
Thank you. I've grown up trained on the safe handling of firearms (Hunting/Safety classes, treat like they are loaded, etc). It's also good practice to familiarize yourself with the functioning of your weapon so that you get muscle memory. You don't know how you'll react under stress so practicing makes perfect. Dry fire your weapon with snap caps in it to get used to the trigger pull and general feel of the gun. It didn't hurt that I spent time at the range with rentals before buying.
Where in Michigan do you live?? I live in Grand Rapids. Just wondering if ya were near me.

BIGAL1214 1 year ago
@BIGAL1214 Turn off the caps lock your not impressing anyone and considering they own a wide range of weapons and equipment i would trust some one who is LICENSED TO SELL WEAPONS and revolvers offer simplicity reliability and if you haven't noticed 9 +P can hurt but my 44 mag will drop on first shot and its the magnum cartridge of a revolver that people use them so much especially when home defense comes down to seeing then shooting not sparying magazines in the home.
williamED15 10 months ago
BIGAL1214 10 months ago
BIGAL1214 10 months ago
BIGAL1214 10 months ago
BIGAL1214 10 months ago
@BIGAL1214 No i ve fired enough nine mil to know its not an offensive weapons especially in the hand of a civilian a lot of my friends are cops and they ve told me of there skirmishs with 9 mils and to be honest if you can kill or maine and intruder with a 6 shot magnum especially when it comes to the sake of your family you shouldnt be reproducing and fact of the matter is i dont trust the government and i really dont trust religion but when it comes to a mans livly hood to sell weapons
williamED15 10 months ago
@BIGAL1214 i wouldnt think he would lie because that would affect bussiness and honestly the layout of a home defense mean you know the layout of your home you retrieve your weapon and shoot the bastard once you identify they are a threat. if there is more then one person i doubt that they wont flee the moment you shoot and kill one of there colleges especially when they hear the sound of a 44 magnum
williamED15 10 months ago
@williamED15 OK MISTER ED.......YOU SEEM TO LEAVE OUT IMPORTANT LETTERS IN YOUR SPELLING AS TO WHERE I CAN NOT TELL WHAT YOU ARE SAYING EXACTLY.....YES, 9MM ISNT THE CHOSEN ROUND FOR COPS AND HOME DEFENSE, BUT THAT WASNT MY POINT......MY POINT IS 18 ROUNDS OF 9MM IS BETTER THAN 6 ROUNDS OF 44 MAG IN THE HANDS OF AN AVERAGE HOME OWNER...AND WE CANT "HOPE" THAT IF TWO GUYS CAME INTO YOUR HOUSE AND ONE GOT SHOT THAT MAYBE THE OTHER ONE WOULD FLEE.

ytertyu 9 months ago
BIGAL1214 10 months ago
AND AFTER YOU EMPTY YOUR WEAPON YOU CAN GO FOR EAR SURGERY.....ANOTHER REASON I WONT USE MY 50 CAL IN MY HOUSE.
BIGAL1214 10 months ago
@BIGAL1214 its a 50 S&W round not an actual 50 aka 12.7 round its sound is overdramitized and 50 S&W is overkill anyway that gun is a trophy not a weapon the barrel size and weight alone make it useless in a home defense situation, keep it simple and smart and those are the rules to home defense
williamED15 8 months ago
BIGAL1214 8 months ago
@BIGAL1214 Thats a target gun not a tatical gun it never can be anything more than that, I mean honestly can you move around your house and accuratly combat targets? The status of this argument was home defense and your on about bowling? honestly sir its inmature to have an ego as large as yours
williamED15 8 months ago

I was wondering how is it as a home defense firearm?
I have pretty big hands and am also wondering does it shoot nice and feel right?
Thanks
cyborg578 1 year ago
@cyborg578 Looking back if I were to purchase a pistol for a home defense weapon I would buy a revolver. Leaving the magazine of the M&P loaded all the time can wear out the magazine's spring. A revolver doesn't have to worry about that. Ultimately the best home defense weapon would be a shotgun.
1StepTooFar 1 year ago 5
@1StepTooFar Great thanks
cyborg578 1 year ago
@1StepTooFar instead of a full size shot gun u should prob get a taurs or wat ever
shoottothrill11 1 year ago
@1StepTooFar Can't you leave the magazine not attached to the gun and then put it in quickly if you need to? Also, I rather be able to shoot all 17 instead of 6 that most revolvers hold. Thanks for posting this video. I want to buy my first gun for home safety as well and did quite a bit of research and this gun seems like it would be the best for me. Limited recoil, very reliable, and you can add laser sights and more to this very easily.
DBR00 1 year ago
@1StepTooFar Leaving a magazine loaded does not wear out the spring. The loading and unloading of rounds in the magazine is what wears it out, meaing when you load it up and shoot it at the range. There have been old 1911 magazines found in an attic that where loaded for 60+ years from people that have passed away that where loaded up in modern 1911s and every round fired and ejected and then the magazine still locked the slide back when it was empty.
Nakanokalronin 1 year ago
@1StepTooFar Really dude? I have kept mags loaded for years and never had a problem!! Revolvers are a great way to go, you can really trust your life to one! And leave it loaded 14/7. The best hone defense would be a Claymore :) LOL j/k Nice pistol though, it did very well at the 09 trials! It beat every other pistol but the XD, they traded places in different categories. Both were miles ahead of all the other brands. I have shoot everything and the M&P did it right, grats.
CorruptArsenal213 1 year ago
@1StepTooFar It won't wear out the mag spring. :) Just rotate the rounds in the mag once in the while and you're good to go. Nice video review. I'm trying to decide between 9mm and .40sw. Shot both, like both, and was pretty good with both. Very nice guns.
Sportimus 1 year ago
@1StepTooFar cycling of the springs is what wears them out, and modern metallurgy allows for long lasting springs. I've left two of my glock 19 magazines loaded for almost 3 years, until last month when I decided to put new ammo in them...they shot fine, slide locked back when empty, good to go.
M&P is a great pistol, accurate, reliable, and just fun to shoot...you done good there :-)
Nice review too.
gte750h 1 year ago
@1StepTooFar well you have a 17 round mag you can load 12 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber for a total of 13 which would surpass a revolver. How these magazine springs are made these days that is not a real worry... Also you can buy replacement spring to maintain your mags... A lot of police departments are going to these and their weapons are carried loaded for extended periods of times. Just something to consider.
wayne1one 10 months ago
@1StepTooFar Just so you know, a constant load on a spring does not wear it out. What does wear it out is loading and unloading.
Chowley6237 10 months ago
@1StepTooFar but would it longer to reload with a revoler?
32assass 8 months ago
@1StepTooFar Springs don't wear out from being in a static state, either fully compressed or relaxed. People have left mags loaded for years with no ill effect on the spring. Only the repeated compression/relaxation ages the spring. Contact Wolfe Springs if you want proof.
RainmanE350 8 months ago
@RainmanE350 I agree. In my growing experience I've heard that mentioned a time or two. However, I still can't wrap my head around it and when choosing a home defense gun would prefer not to have to trust a magazine spring. But you're probably right. Thanks for posting.
1StepTooFar 8 months ago
@1StepTooFar That's a myth that has yet to be proven. Our Mags in the Military the (M9) and (M11) were always loaded and they worked just fine. The problem with a revolver is less ammo and it takes too long to reload and in a stressful situation, your aim will not be as good as on the range shooting at a paper target that's not shooting back. The more ammo and quicker reload, the better. I will agree, the best firearm for home defense is a shotgun for house, townhome, and apartment.

@1StepTooFar or a RPG
LoCo8NiKkA 6 months ago
@1StepTooFar
IIDASHII 4 months ago
@IIDASHII A shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot has been proven to penetrate equal to a JHP pistol round and more than a .223 loaded with a good varmint style bullet/JHP. I never intend to "warn" someone by racking the action because if they are intent on hurting me and/or my family then I just gave them my location. Also, civil suits can be filed by family members of the deceased. While a pistol might not be the best for all HD/SD roles, a shotgun isn't the perfect solution either...
mrdbld22 3 months ago
@mrdbld22
IIDASHII 3 months ago
@IIDASHII Thank you for making my day @ "your word against nobody's" lol
Only bad thing about a shotgun is they make bigger messes,,, if you know what I mean. ;)
tlvailco 2 months ago
@tlvailco LOL. Indeed. However, the actual "mess" would be the least of one's worries in a shooting. Concerning a civil suit, that was actually advice I heard from a cop. Its surreal to me that criminals can sue and win for injuring/killing them while they INVADE your home. It creates a false moral equivalency between criminal and victim. I'm not a black and white person, but this is pretty clear cut to me. Civil suits should not be allowed if self-defense is ruled. Period.
IIDASHII 1 month ago

First of all nice REVIEW. ALso is that A PRO SERIES or normal one. And whats the difference in regular M&P9 and PRO SERIES ?
gtvapsamtik 1 year ago

Good vid though.
DRCsyntax 1 year ago
@DRCsyntax The rental wall tells no lies. The reason he was directed away from Taurus and others is because they did not hold up under rental conditions. Glocks, M/Ps, and some others do. If a person is only going to put a few thousand rounds through a gun then there are many guns to choose from. But for rental only the toughest survive.

Cant decide between this gun and a Glock 17. Both are very good. Any suggestions? Or you think its just purely preference
LeeJonB 2 years ago
Both great options. Go to your local gun shop/range and rent them to test fire. See what feels good to shoot. They're both very reliable well made guns. Glock has a lot of accessories, the M&P has better ergonomics IMO, round counts are close to the same... I almost bought the G17 myself. You might be able to find a used G17 for less $. Good luck!
1StepTooFar 2 years ago
the only reason to get mp over glock is for the palm swell. other than that glock beats it in every category except maybe looks
jfizzay 2 years ago
It's really a personal preference. jfizzay... it sounds like you're pretty die hard Glock! There are, however, ergonomic factors like grip angle and slide stop/release placement that may feel better to other people. As far as reliability and accuracy go I'd call it a draw. The last consideration would be trigger pull and feel... Again, personal preference. You really need to put the gun in your hand and fire some rounds to decide which system works best for you individually.
1StepTooFar 2 years ago
@jfizzay
The data speaks for itself, and the data supports that both are very capable and serviceable.
opmike343 1 year ago
@jfizzay - glock's new 4th gen has adjustable backstrap's like this , now only in G17(full size 9mm) & the G22(full size 40).. other models will be out later in the year... but the M&P is a great gun..
BayFarm10 1 year ago
@jfizzay Disagree completely! I own both the Glock and the M&P and I can assure you that the M&P has many features that the Glock does not. externally the grip angle and ergonomics are far superior on the M&P. Internally the M&P has parts like the one piece steel rail system where the Glock only has rail inserts. Glocks are great guns, but S&W really did their research and designed a top notch combat pistol with the M&P. Just a pleasure to shoot.
