I have the samething going on with my big screen projector tv it would do that but then u would hit the side and would be fine but now I have no picture at all
i have a kv-x2572u sony,it seems i have the same problem,i've send it for repair for couple of times, but it still have the problem, now it cant be turn on,any helps?
Take apart TV and locate IC on a large metal fin near the high voltage section. It should be marked vertical. You will tell its the vertical IC because its got a series of pins about 8 all in a row, solder each pin and all components in that area and you should be set to go.
@chrisstv1979 - Now if I can just find a photo showing where the "vertical" area is located ... I can finally solder it. I do appreciate the help - Thank!

Dude i had that same problem. When the pictures flicked i put on top of a yellow page and it did the work but you always got to move it around. But it doesn't mean that it fixing your tv. My tv finally gave out. From when it first started to flick to took about 3 months. But good luck on your tv. Dont beat at it, just lift it.
So where would I find the Virtical Output? There are 2 boards inside the TV (Smaller power board & larger Main board). I've also heard this could be a power switching issue...???....since when the picture goes out and the TV is switched off then back on...that tell-tale "click" of the picture tube powering on is NOT heard. If I turn it off and smack the side of the TV or leave it off for awhile that picture tube power up "click" can be heared once again...up until the picture goes out.
Looks like a bad solder joint as you guessed. If touching up the solder joint doesn't help you could have a cracked circuit board but most likely a bad solder joint around the vertical output.
Decided to upload a video of a Sony Trinitron KV-32S45 & see if anyone knows what's wrong with it. As you can see in the video: 1) No picture appears after a cold start. 2) Smacking the side of the TV usually brings the picture back. 3) Screen flickers & then goes out again. 4) Picture usually stays if the TV has been on awhile. 5) Sound works. Any suggestions on a fix would be a huge help! (Hope its just a bad solder connection - Plan on using this in the basement for the kids) Thanks!
boot it with a sledgehammer, that should do the trick

Stop slapping it. The tv will explore.
