  • jesus. why dont he uses reflection instead of violence?

  • yo i dont get how people took gettin spanked with wood like that back then,if i was charlie i woulda hit his ass

  • When Nolan told Charlie to assume the position and then Charlie bent over, my first thought was "omg, he is going to rape him?".

  • If that kid was black he would have grabbed that board from that old cracker and been like gimmie dat shit nigga then the black kid would have stomped that old ass cracker down.

  • NEIL: Acting is everything to me.

    -years later-

Wilson: I'm the head of Oncology!

  • @ssjdigidestined haha!

  • the paddle- need it back in school, sorting the kid!

  • Why are there air holes on that paddle or whatever is called ?

  • @Forseliz The air going through it makes it hurt more I think

  • @Forseliz it makes it more aero dynamic

  • @Forseliz it creates less wind resistence therefor making it a more painful smack.

  • hey this guys father is the asshole acter that played warden poe in the movie fortress in 1990 i think, this dude is a piece of shit, his father!

  • Fuck you Red!

  • Rather unfortunately my mother is scarily similar to Neil's father in this movie. She'd react in the exact way he did if she found out I switched my major to theatre.

    Power to Neil. <3

  • The way the Dean is paddling him couldn't hurt a 2 year old. What an old man.

  • Reds a butch in this show!!!

  • Now thinking about girls at this school, Thats a paddin'

  • ASSUME THE POSITION!!

  • Yes captin

  • The father in this movie is youtubes new ultimate douche...

  • I'm so relieved corporal punishment was out by the time i was in school otherwise i would have been paddled every week!

Seriously, i was a terror in a Catholic girls school who loved nothing more than the thrill in rebelling against the rules.

If i had been paddled i just once, i wouldn't muck up again!....interesting.

  • The look on Mr Perry's face at 7:30 is the classic look of a bully. Scared that nothing will go right unless he has to have complete control over everything. All bullies are cowards at heart.

  • @jrcasselman Well,excellent comment i must say.:)

  • @jrcasselman Such true words. All bullies are insecure whether they are boys or girls. Bullying is in my book one of the truest forms of cowardice.

  • Red obviously doesn't use Tampax.

  • Peter Weir used the same classical piece that Keating is listening to in his masterpiece Picnic at Hanging Rock. Weir is a genius filmmaker.

  • "Phone call from god. If it had been collect, that would have been daring." Best line ever.

  • His dad has major issues, probably from his childhood.

  • a spanking stick??? really??

  • I'm convinced Neil is Jim carrey, I don't care what imDB says

  • Neils dad is a jerk!! everytime I watch this film I wanna smack him!!

  • NUWANDA , MARRY ME.

  • 'assume the position' which one? i know a lot.. ;)

    haha. kidding.

  • Neil's dad is a real asswipe. A father should always let their children do what they want as they get older

  • @StarBoy62 you should really clarify what you mean. What if the children turn out to be sadistic sons-of-bitches the older they get??

  • Charlie's Hot! -- spank :P lol

  • i am so much sad about Neil...i don;t want that to happen to my children..i will give them all the freedom to choose what makes them happy, as a parent, i would guide them that;s all..but i only want their happiness above anything else..:)

  • Hehe, they played one of the main pieces used in "Picnic at Hanging Rock" in Keating's office. ;) Clever Peter Weir, I love directors who reference their previous films.

  • my parents would hit me harder if ii done that

  • collect call from god??? ... would be free *prayer* :)

  • 'I didn't know you taught, Mr Nolan.'

    ...owned.

  • I bet he sniffs the paddle after the whoopin' takes place. Hmmmm, the smell of boys arse in the mornin'.

  • poor Charlie =(((( !!! aw my god the old man is so sick!!!

  • Don't you too feel that overwhelming urge to hug that doe-eyed cuteness that is Neil? :)

  • "Assume the position." Oh god. When I heard that I was like oh damn!

  • in 5:14 when Keating says "Phone call of God. If it had been collect, it wouldn´t been daring"

Is that mean like, if Noalan had answered the call it woudn´t been presumptuous. ?

  • We should support corporal punishment in US high schools. Alot of American kids can get wild and should be disciplined.

  • awww... Mr. Keating is amazing. i love how he approaches Charlie after the phonecall incident

  • That's a paddlin'

  • thats a paddlin'.

  • neil's dad made him quit or he'll put his foot up his ass

  • ugh, the dad is such a jerk...I mean his son not telling him he wasn't in a play is nothing considering he's getting all A's in his classes!!!

  • haa 1....... 2.................3....... >-<

  • lol...how'd he get the phone to ring?

  • Call from God. If it would have been collect, it would have been daring.

  • Damn you, Red Foreman. Damn. You.

  • Neil's dad is such an asshole. Neil is a brilliant and kind person with a bright future. But the dad only cares about his goddamned ego. Fucking bastard.

  • @michelletheory damn corperations i kept thinking why does neils dad care about waffles

  • That principal is a kinky sonuvabitch.

  • Neil's Dad: Is that clear? It better be clear or I'm gonna put my foot up your ass!! I love seeing people from other shows in movies...

  • mr nolan, its for you, its god.....he says we should have girls at welton :) lmao

  • THE DADS A FUCKING CUNT!!! NEIL SHOULD HAVE KILLED HIM!!!

  • thats just weird

  • my master whips me with a leather strap and makes me count outloud.....i wonder if he got thatfrom this?

  • Foot in Your Ass!

  • if they had started some b grade funky music at 0:29 it could have been the beginning of a very bad porn movie

  • Antique Cell Phone

  • EPIC EPIFANY!!!: Neil's dad wanted him to be a doctor. Neil wanted to be an actor. So what does he do? He goes off, becomes an actor, and ACTS as a DOCTOR on House!! xD

  • @TheSugarAlchemist That was literally the first thing I thought at the beginning of this movie XD Then again I'm a huge House nerd.

  • @TheSugarAlchemist That was literally the first thing I thought at the beginning of this movie XD Then again I'm a huge House nerd.

  • @TheSugarAlchemist I think you mean "epiphany"...

  • @TheSugarAlchemist that so clever! didnt even make the connection until i read this! haha

  • @TheSugarAlchemist hahahaha I know right?

  • Does anyone know the name of the song that's playing at minute 7:47????

  • @butterflyroma It's Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73.

  • writin' in the school paper...ooohhh you better believe that's a-paddlin.

  • ...the paddling scene was very erotic !

  • @jethro035181 I couldn't stop thinking of yaoi paddles ;-;

  • Ugh Neil's father needs to go hang himself for being such a TERRIBLE FATHER!!

  • what year was this set? the 50s?

  • @iTube543 It is set in the year 1959. It says in the part one.

  • @iTube543 -- so far as my sister and I figured, it's the autumn of 1959.

  • "Don't talk back to me!"

    "ANSWER ME!!"

    Make your mind up, smeghead.

  • this is gay

  • Mr. Nolan its for you, its god. he says we should have girls at Welton XD

  • In case anybody is interested, the piece that plays in the background in Keating's office is Piano Concerto No. 5, Movement II by Ludwig van Beethoven.

    Cheers. =)

  • @BigBrotherMateyka Thanks a lot bro i was looking at the comments just to find that

  • it's nonsense. the average boy enjoys himself fine out of school. school is for meeting the text and learning to enjoy it. the irony is that curriculum and faculty now are pregnant with the influence of Dead Poet's Society, and boys and girls are not learning to enjoy the text.

  • Thank you sir may I have another at 1:13

  • @TheGodMan69 Lol you're bogus

  • 5:46 I respect that fat kid sprinting thru the hallway - "SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS!!"

  • @caitox omg when I heard the kid scream that I started cracking up and I only noticed because of your comment! Now I can't stop laughing at it!!

  • Gotta love the phone Nuwanda took with him. XD

  • God, Neil's dad has a serious pole up his ass. I mean, come on! Let him do the damn play for crying out loud. Not all of your offspring can grow up in your exact image, you know!

  • @FlyFree4evr

What do expect from "Clarence J. Boddicker."

  • Charlie has a good heart <3 He seems so relaxed and bubbly

  • "assume the position"

  • "if you would have said collect, that would have been daring!" lol

  • sadomasochism rocks!

  • Dammit, Neil....... the name is Nuwanda.

  • @Picassia actually since its a native american indian name i think its properly spelled as "Nuanda"

  • @Picassia i think its 'nuanda'

  • "How'd you expect to get away with this? DUMBASS."

  • dang, that bongo boy sure is smokin'. what's with american boys always calling their fathers "sir"???

  • @glassoniongirl64 this doesnt take place in america -.-

and no one does that anymore

  • @itscomplicated456 Um...this takes place in Vermont. So, yes, it does take place in America.

  • @itscomplicated456 You're right, few people do call their fathers 'sir' but some still do. I call any male that is my elder 'sir' as a sign of respect.

And yes, this definitely takes place in America

  • @itscomplicated456 it looks like scotland or england, but maybe they films in the usa .. it's a beautiful place

  • @Reinspired30 It was filmed at St. Andrews School in Delaware.

  • dang, that bongo boy sure is smokin'.

  • Does anyone know the song that Robin Williams is listening to when Robert Leonard walks in to talk to him?

  • Red Forman!

  • 1:06 stupid old fuckin asshole

I wish all boys'd ran inside and beaten him down instead. bastard.

  • motherfucker tried to paddle me he better paraylize my ass cuz ill kill the motherfucker

  • "...don't you dare talk back to me" the most famous line for all parents. a child tries to explain and the parent goes: don't you dare talk back to me. so annoying and stupid. some parents say they do things for the sake of their children, but the truth is that they're doing it for themselves. they don't want their hard work to go to waste, and they certainly don't want to get humiliated when their children mess up. so freakin' selfish.

  • charlie is so hot

  • @miladynana agreed !

  • that father is such an asshole!

  • @lizdylanboykie No he isn't. He loves his son and wants the best for him, it's just that his idea of what's best isn't actually best.

  • 0.13-0.25 :D

  • god robin's winks make me feel warm

  • really now??? they spank grown boys what the heck is that about??

  • @cloudburstlia456 I don't know but I normally have to subscribe to a fetish website to see that type of thing.

  • I'd love to do the spanking ;)

  • From 0:15 to 0:17, and then 0:20 to 0:22... doesn't that look like Doug Davison, aka Paul Willams, from "The Young and the Restless"?

  • i like his mobile phone

  • @homeboywilliebrown Long before the cell-phone era... that 's hilarious!

  • Look at the old man's face at 0:21, like it really was God that called him LOL

  • @anythingnew If I'm the Paul-Williams-lookalike behind Dalton, I'm falling down and making the sign of the cross upon hearing "It's God; He says we should have women here."

  • @zackhanscom wow. Your world must be very depressing. We were put here on this earth to serve God, whether you believe that or not. And I find great joy in being here at times. Like they say in the movie there's love, ambitions, dreams, hopes--anything can happen. Especially in writing. I intend to "suck the marrow out of life" and experience all the joy that comes with it. :)

  • Charlie IS Ajax

  • I know this movie by heart and it still makes me cry in spots.

  • What I want to know is who's on the other end of the phone line...

  • FOREMAAANNN

  • I have always heard about the chicane from classmates, but here is the chicane from the teaching stuff and your own parents. Terrible. If most of the US and British leaders had to go through such a system, no wonder the world is so bad. Mentally disordered and frustrated society.

  • I always want to cry and give Neil a huge hug after his dad yells at him.

  • @daffodil977

I was sobbing by that time, I wanted to punch his Dad out. >:(

  • the "human spirit" wilted away ages ago, you silly putz. and what are humans? just a bunch of cells in an organ, dying and regenerating. i love it when humans think they and all their "accomplishments" somehow matter in the grand scheme of things. we are like microbes, tomorrow many of us won't even exist anymore. so much arrogance.

  • Coroporal punishment was banned in 1986 in the UK, although my school continued to use it until 1992. Our headmistress used to spank us with a ruler or paddle on our backsides, while the teachers used a ruler on the hand. It did hurt! Seeing this made me feel that sting all over again...

  • dont treat your son as an investment. Butchers of the spirit.

  • Neil's father is in that 70's show! its so weird to see him in this role.

  • Student: "How can you stand it?...How can you stand being here?"

TEACHER: "Because I love teaching, I don't wanna be anywhere else..."

  • What era is this movie set in? They can't allow teachers to do that now.

  • @smdarkknight They still allow corporal punishment in Catholic schools in the US. That, called paddling, is exactly what they do.

I've heard it called one of the faith based initiatives from the last government, but that might have been Sam Harris being sarcastic.

  • @queenastilon Corporal punishment is most certainly not allowed in Catholic schools in the US. Child abuse is illegal in this country.

  • @smdarkknight

    1959/60

  • I'm surprised -- by 1959 it was illegal to paddle or flog students in public schools. I guess public and parochial schools lagged behind. I remember old teachers expressing regret that they couldn't smack students across the knuckles with wooden rulers any more, in the 1950s. And those rulers were thick.

  • @manthasagittarius Sorry -- I meant private and parochial schools.

  • @manthasagittarius Where I grew up, in England, it was still allowed in the late sixties. I was at a private elimentary school. The Headmistress used to punish little kids by sticking their heads in the toilet bowl and flushing. Her wooden ruler she proudly showed us was completely bound with tape because otherwise it broke when she hit us with it. The teachers hit on the palm of the hand or the calf (really stings). But the Head always went for our fingernails. Ow.

  • I would do anything for Robin Williams to merely WINK at me. >_<

  • Capital punishment = no bueno.

  • @PumpkinFoundations I think you meant corporeal punishment.

  • conformity leads to crap... look what religion has done to the world

  • If that was Red Foreman, he would've said," You can be in my play, its called My Foot in Your Ass"

  • Wow... Neil's dad is such a douche.. Goodness.

  • assume the position LOL i can't believe he spanked him. why did he not refuse to assume the position? i doubt that would even hurt me much anyway, i have been spanked hard and it never really hurt much after a young age.

  • Damn it Neil, the name is Nuwanda!

  • Great movie although as a non-white person, I must confess I have trouble distinguishing the characters! So many look exactly alike.

  • even im a white person, and i find it hard at times! theyre all skinny guys round the same age with similar hair cuts!

its only when they show the face properly you can tell......

    and robert is so cute!

  • That's how people looked back then, and kind of jibes with the conformity motif.

  • i too have trouble especially that knox and charlie guys. they looked very much alike to me.

  • @Stratoart

Except for Charlie, he stands out.

Charlie/Ajax: Fuckin wimp, I'll shove that bat up your ass and turn you into a popsicle.

  • 4:26

  • 4:26

just ignore this commemt i need this marker for an assignment

  • Comment removed

  • love nuwanda:D he is awesome :D

  • charlie is hot:)

  • what.

    an.

    asshole.

neil worked his ass off for his dad and in doing so managed to get a's in all of his classes yet all the idiot cared about was the fact that neil tried to disrespect his authority?

and on top of that he expected neil to drop out THE DAY OF the performance?? LOL! (he wants his son to be responsible but yet he tells him to do that?)

  • It actually seems like it would be kind of degrading, being beaten on the ass with a wooden paddle by an older male headmaster. Never mind the pain, I'd feel more ashamed and humiliated than anything. That's probably what makes it so dreadful. =\

  • That's not actually a funny thing. I'd like to see you get beaten with a wooden paddle.

  • I love Ethan Hawke so much! :)

  • mr. perry is an idiot, IF neil felt that he had to lie over something as miniscule as this, then there was something wrong, any REAL christian parent would be smart enough to realize that.

  • 30% motivation 70 % paddle

  • haha so true, that paddle thing was hilarious

  • What a small minded bunch of idiots. Theatre, drama, acting and passion are some of the noblest qualities of the human spirit.

How dare any father prohibit such beauty of the soul.
