I have friends that are police officers so I don't blindly say that all cops are bad, nor do I think the majority of them are, but there are enough of them that something drastic needs to be done. I don't believe this is necessarily a race issue, because I believe the police involved here are very likely to do this to a person of any race. That includes white folk. This is probably more of a class issue. If they perceive you as being lower class, because of the way you speak/dress, or what neighborhood you live in, then they perceive you as a threat. Or, they just hate you because of it, and have little or no impulse control, like half of the people in this fucking country.

I am a cop and I have to say that the cop in the video appeared to be in the wrong. The truth is that police officers, like any other job, have their idiots. At any department about 10% of officers are assholes. I admit that. Something you should keep in mind though, cops deal with the worst 10% of our population everyday. They constantly see the worse of mankind and are charged with protecting everyone else while expected to be "nice" all the time meanwhile receiving very little pay.

Many people have shitty jobs for low pay but they don't abuse their fellow citizens the way police officers do. @TheRushingWind Well I was in the Army for a long time and I saw the cops in the UK and Germany. What supprised me was how fast they pull out a batton and beat the crap out of everyone in the area. I saw that several times. I would never act that way and in fact, in 5 years as a cop I have never used my batton and only used my taser twice. Once for a guy with a knife chasing his mother and once for an armed felon running. I think would rather deal with me than the UK police.

Compare the percentages (not amount as the countries are clearly smaller) of bad usa cop vids with bad uk cop vids in comparison with the amount of good ones on each side. And compare UK training with USA training. In the USA, cops are clearly taught to be immediately aggressive and controlling.In the UK, in general, they're taught to approach a situation calmly+use DE-escalation techniques (not make things escalate more)

A lot of them are great guys but unfortuneately there are the 1% and its hard for most cops to tell them apart so for there own safety they treat them all as a threat. Now that's not an excuse for them to be an asshoule, but maybe it will help you understand why some of the good cops are stand-offish.

If I were to do what this cop did at my job I would be fired and end up in jail, not get 2 weeks of paid leave. Officers should be charged the same as any citizen would be. I am the only cop with the balls to make a statement on here so instead of an open mind from most I got hundreds of responses that were just stupid. Okay, if the guy had a pocket knife in his pocket and he was just buying a soda, no reason to kill him. However, if he has a knife and he's yelling, "Give me your money or I'll cut you," different story. If the tape didn't offer enough proof to defend the offers killing him, then it was obvious he wasn't brandishing the weapon to be used to threaten someone.

I don't believe this is necessarily a race issue, because I believe the police involved here are very likely to do this to a person of any race. That includes white folk. This is probably more of a class issue. If they perceive you as being lower class, because of the way you speak/dress, or what neighborhood you live in, then they perceive you as a threat. Or, they just hate you because of it, and have little or no impulse control, like half of the people in this fucking country.

I am a cop and I have to say that the cop in the video appeared to be in the wrong. The truth is that police officers, like any other job, have their idiots. At any department about 10% of officers are assholes. I admit that. Something you should keep in mind though, cops deal with the worst 10% of our population everyday. They constantly see the worse of mankind and are charged with protecting everyone else while expected to be "nice" all the time meanwhile receiving very little pay.

@type1each Like every government controlled department there will always be the corrupt. Abuse of power is a human trait which the weak never seem to overcome. Also you are a public servant to serve and protect, if the money is an issue then go to school and get a higher paying safer job. There is no excuse for this sort of behavior from the people we pay to protect us.

@Shuped I agree with you. I'm not complaining about the pay only stating a fact that people often don't know. Everyone assumes we make a 100 thousad a year when I personally only make 46 and I pay all my own insurance for me and my family.

@type1each 10 %? After a 40 year study, evidence shows that 95% of officers are assholes. Many people have shitty jobs for low pay but they don't abuse their fellow citizens the way police officers do. Research shows that the job actually attracts assholes more than any other job and that this is because it allows them to abuse the public more than any other job. Furthermore, 80% of officers are borderline psychopaths. The other 15% asshole officers are just assholes. 5% were on paid leave.

@type1each Actually the evidence suggests it's way more than 10%. And considering the kind of "training" shown on The Academy tv show, it's not surprising. The reason they constantly see the worst of mankind is because of their attitudes. In the UK, in most cases a cop can keep a situation calm and even make it look friendly. In the USA, people are put straight on the defensive by the aggressive attitudes of cops.

@TheRushingWind Well I was in the Army for a long time and I saw the cops in the UK and Germany. What supprised me was how fast they pull out a batton and beat the crap out of everyone in the area. I saw that several times. I would never act that way and in fact, in 5 years as a cop I have never used my batton and only used my taser twice. Once for a guy with a knife chasing his mother and once for an armed felon running. I think would rather deal with me than the UK police.

@type1each and how many incidents with the UK police did you actually see? Compare the percentages (not amount as the countries are clearly smaller) of bad usa cop vids with bad uk cop vids in comparison with the amount of good ones on each side. And compare UK training with USA training. In the USA, cops are clearly taught to be immediately aggressive and controlling.In the UK, in general, they're taught to approach a situation calmly+use DE-escalation techniques (not make things escalate more)

@texastowerman1 Well I can speak directly to that. I deal with the Outlaws all the time. My uncle is actually a member. A lot of them are great guys but unfortuneately there are the 1% and its hard for most cops to tell them apart so for there own safety they treat them all as a threat. Now that's not an excuse for them to be an asshoule, but maybe it will help you understand why some of the good cops are stand-offish.

@type1each As long as the good cops tolerate the bad cops this will continue. Something you should keep in mind is that officers are sworn to serve and protect the general population regardless of their income. I doubt that these things would stop if all police got giant raises. Police yourselves so we don't have to.

there are alot of police officers that arrest people for liturally not breaking the law, how would one go about talking a police officer out of an arrest that in unjust.
Provided that you have noticed how the psycology works as a police.
for example, a cop might hide his actions behind "Oh i did this as NR.235 not as Charlie therefor Charlie feels no guilt"

@JollSSteR You're right there are a asshole cops but they are the minority. The probem is that they stand out. My advice to you is always be respectful. It's hard to arrest anyone who is respectful. If the arrest still occurs fight it and tell the truth. The state has to prove it and can't if it's a lie. If the cop was truly in the wrong...sue that bastard. Really and a press charges. Cops don't like dirty cops more than any citizen.

@type1each I hope that you are an Oathkeeper. Also, it is kind of your job to be be "nice" all the time in dealing with not only your customers but your employers. So if you or anyone else cannot handle being nice, then you can go find another job and quit whining about it. You earn a paycheck doing a job that you agreed to do and if you cannot do it properly you should be fired. If you need to relax once in a while, I'm sure you get paid vacation time. Use it.

@type1each The problem is that the officers who are in the wrong never seem to get charged accordingly. If I were to do what this cop did at my job I would be fired and end up in jail, not get 2 weeks of paid leave. Officers should be charged the same as any citizen would be. Then there's also the blue wall of silence; be honest, as an officer, if you saw a fellow officer commit a crime, would you arrest them?

@ind20000 I have arrested other cops many times. Everything from DUI to selling drugs. I am the only cop with the balls to make a statement on here so instead of an open mind from most I got hundreds of responses that were just stupid. You have a valid point but the truth is that cops get arrested by other cops but unless it's completely horrific it doesn't get media attention.

@type1each, i agree with u cops are not compensated enough. But lets be real here, cops are trained on how to handle situations like this. And often times they go too far. No matter what the situation, police brutality is not acceptable. And that 10% of asshole cops you talk about? They are constantly messing up good cops image to the general public. Look at the hundreds of videos on YouTube and you can see we have way too much of this.

As far as the videos go, A lot of them are real but there are also a lot that either cut out specific parts to make them look bad or are just plain false. The problem is that we don't the difference unless we were there. That's why I refuse to make a judment on this video. It may be 100% and if it was that cop should be delt with but we don't know that becasue we weren't there
