In other words, Ontario does NOT have a permit for one to simply own a fox as a personal pet. Many states in the USA have a permit that allows personal ownership as a pet, such as Ohio, Illinois, Florida, etc.

I used a metal lead to the leash when I used to walk him, but the problem has been him chewing off the COLLAR that is on him! not chewing through the leash...
Now that he has the outdoor habitat, I no longer have need to walk him, which is risky since he can slip a collar.

Interesting, my friend very recently obtained a fox as well. I say obtained because he found it stranded on the side of the road. Do you think it would be a good idea for him to raise it or should he train it an release it back into the wild? How many generations domesticated is Ron? Does that make any difference in behavior?
Also would like to know how trainable Ron is, as in does he know commands like "sit" and "lay down" and such, or is it a lot harder to teach tricks to a fox?
In most states it would be illegal for you to keep that fox as a pet. Nearly all states only allow you to keep a fox if you purchase the fox from a licensed breeder.
Ragtatter has taught her fox some tricks, but its more like training a cat than a dog...

I live in Ontario, Canada though, and I assume their might be different rules around here. He may have to do some research on that. I figured foxes would be more like cats, as I saw the one part where Ron cleans himself like a cat with the licking of the paw and rubbing of the face. Fascinating animals though.
1. Ron usually is running about or sleeping in his large 700 sq ft outdoor habitat when I am at work, or inside in the plexiglas caged area of my living room if its more comfy inside in temperature or if its raining.
2. Food and vets costs are really the same as a dog... what costs a lot is building a proper size outdoor pen for them that is fox proof... mine cost over 1200 just in materials. And from my personal experience, EVERY fox owner should have an outdoor pen

in the wild, just about anything, to survive... I feed him Blue Buffalo Wilderness which is patterned after a wolf or fox's omnivorous diet, and is super high in protein and fat... it even has blueberries and cranberries in it!

I found this video so cute. :'D Just from looking at this short little video it seems Ron really loves you with all his little foxy heart. I'm very glad my state (TN) allows foxes as pets and would love to have one in my future years.

i dont have a pet fox or dog and thats not because of choise its more out of respect i live in a small place and wouldnt want to subject a pet to that and for thows that want a pet i would sudjest to think long and hard and look at ur place and ur day to day life style its like haveing a kid that will chew and down what ever

Interesting, my friend very recently obtained a fox as well. I say obtained because he found it stranded on the side of the road. Do you think it would be a good idea for him to raise it or should he train it an release it back into the wild? How many generations domesticated is Ron? Does that make any difference in behavior?
Also would like to know how trainable Ron is, as in does he know commands like "sit" and "lay down" and such, or is it a lot harder to teach tricks to a fox?

In most states it would be illegal for you to keep that fox as a pet. Nearly all states only allow you to keep a fox if you purchase the fox from a licensed breeder.
Ragtatter has taught her fox some tricks, but its more like training a cat than a dog...

I live in Ontario, Canada though, and I assume their might be different rules around here. He may have to do some research on that. I figured foxes would be more like cats, as I saw the one part where Ron cleans himself like a cat with the licking of the paw and rubbing of the face. Fascinating animals though.

2. How expensive is it to own a fox?

1. Ron usually is running about or sleeping in his large 700 sq ft outdoor habitat when I am at work, or inside in the plexiglas caged area of my living room if its more comfy inside in temperature or if its raining.
2. Food and vets costs are really the same as a dog... what costs a lot is building a proper size outdoor pen for them that is fox proof... mine cost over 1200 just in materials. And from my personal experience, EVERY fox owner should have an outdoor pen

It is intelligent, responsible pet owners like yourself that give me hope that the beautiful and amazing animals that are around us everyday become better understood and survive along side with humanity. All you morons preaching about how 'cruel' it is to keep a fox as a pet really need to get your facts straight. AS IT HAS ALREADY BEEN SAID, ALL animals were once wild. This includes dogs and cats.Are we being 'cruel' to them by sheltering them and giving them a safe place to live?
While it is TRUE that foxes are wild, and at times unpredictable, the same thing applies to ANY animal. There are stories about dogs attacking their owners all over the place.

in the wild, just about anything, to survive... I feed him Blue Buffalo Wilderness which is patterned after a wolf or fox's omnivorous diet, and is super high in protein and fat... it even has blueberries and cranberries in it!

What a handsome man RonRon is! He looks healthy and happy in every season. His healthy coat is an obvious indicator of his overall good health. I have adopted and fostered cats and dogs for over 20 years and Mr. RonRon is clearly a healthy happy fox. Please scratch his ears for me.
