opie is extremly brilliant and funny and really manages the show.. But he's also doing this everyday and it's fair that he loses his mind now and then.. Give him a break.. It worked out since then, just a bad day.. There is an underlying turmoil between anthony and jeff but it rarely goes above the surface and they keep it under wraps.

Look, these arguments about the show continuing without certain cast members is dumb, they all contribute to the greatness that is the Opie and Anthony show, including Jim Sam Erock. The chemistry between them is great, and im glad Opie is a smart guy and decided the balance of chemistry is worth more than making his point on air. He could have easily went off, but he recognized the potential for disaster and reserved himself and I applaud him for that.

OK "Holmes", let me explain. I started listening to the Opie and Anthony Show before Jimmy was around. So it is a fact that Jimmy is not necessary to continue the program. They were already successful. Does he add? Sure he does. Necessary - not so much. Now to the crux of my argument. If there were to be a split between Opie and Anthony, it is my opinion that Anthony would fare better. He is a quick wit whose vocal impressions are spot on. To be continued on following post.
Opie is more of a behind the scenes person. Have you seen them together on TV? Opie seems out of his element while Anthony is much more comfortable. Imagine a show with only Anthony or only Opie. Look, I know Ant brings the funny and the impressions; but if you ever watch "live at the compound" etc. you will see where Opie comes in. He directs the flow and comedic traffic. Critics say he is a board op, but he is a master board op.

Totally agree. When a guest who's not a musician is on the show, he lays in the cut and doesn't say a word. He's great with musicians for some odd reason, but the guy is dull.
Question, do you ever ask what the director of a movie contributes? Just because you don't see him up on the screen doesn't mean his influence isn't felt throughout. Jimmy's presence changed the character of the show, Opie doesn't talk as much now, but he was the one carrying both of them when they were getting big. He had the radio connections and drive to market them.
That was then. Opie is hardly as competent at setting up bits, finding interesting guests and playing the straight man as he used to be. Those who claim that Opie's critics don't consider his contributions or aren't long-term listeners should review bits from WNEW or the early XM show, when Opie's contributions were still fresh and vital. He's a drag on the show's momentum (which is entirely propelled by Cumia, Norton and their better guests) and the reason why so many of their guests suck.
I love Op but he's pretty much like The Brian Epstein of the show. Without him we wouldn't have it today as it is but now the major players have taken it far beyond where he was with it and his role is greatly diminished.

I really don't understand the people who don't get what Opie brings to the show. Maybe you should listen a little closer. The show is a dynamic between the two of them. Seperately Opie is doing nights at WBAB and Ant is installing air conditioners. Opie is the idea man, creates and sets up the bits, keeps the topics moving, has the radio connections, and was the one pushing them behind the scenes when Ant was content to sit there and just be funny. Opies not as funny but he's just as vital.

Opie sucks and if I ever tune in and Ant or jimmy are off I will tune out unless there is a good comedian in with opie. He would drown on his own.

You called it! Opie would NOT be able to have a successful show without Ant and jimmy but Ant would survive without him easily. I believe Jimmy would go with ant because they seem to have more in common and same sense of humor.

The only reason there is actually flow to the show at ALL is because Opie is there. Without Opie the show would sink plain and simple because Opie is the only one who has a fucking clue how to do radio.

That was def true when they first started but come on you don't think Ant has been doing this long enough to do board work? Can you honestly say you laugh at anything Opie does? When they have comedians in there and Ant jimmy and whoever are on a roll opie is lost.

Look, I know Ant brings the funny and the impressions; but if you ever watch "live at the compound" etc. you will see where Opie comes in. He directs the flow and comedic traffic. Critics say he is a board op, but he is a master board op.
This shit just came about after the CBS dump and I do think Ope took it too far. I hope they have put all this shit back together. XM/Little doggie will see a huge drop off if they split...

I think a lot of this bubbled up due to the fact that they lost sydication on FM stations, they were going to get the b00t out of that building, and Opie was getting married.
I dunno, I remember hearing this live and it was like...OH BOUY!
Honestly, I like the show with JUST O&A. If it wasn't for Anthony, the show wouldn't be as funny, but if it wasn't for Opie they show would go NOWHERE with ant and jim just blabbering all day long.

Anthony is hilarious. But without Opie, I couldn't listen for a day. The show would be a Nazi/racist/Klan show. Opie is not as funny but he keeps Anthony from going to a bad place on the show.

I don't agree with alot of the nonsense that comes out of Ant's mouth either. Regardless of his political views noone can deny that he is an intelligent well informed funny dude who has carried that show on his own for the years prior to Jimmy.joining. It really blows my mind how uninformed he is about EVERYTHING. The only thing he's been able to talk about accurately is the behind the scenes radio business stuff. Which isnt entertaining funnt stuff for the casual fan.

Totally agree. When a guest who's not a musician is on the show, he lays in the cut and doesn't say a word. He's great with musicians for some odd reason, but the guy is dull.

Question, do you ever ask what the director of a movie contributes? Just because you don't see him up on the screen doesn't mean his influence isn't felt throughout. Jimmy's presence changed the character of the show, Opie doesn't talk as much now, but he was the one carrying both of them when they were getting big. He had the radio connections and drive to market them.

That was then. Opie is hardly as competent at setting up bits, finding interesting guests and playing the straight man as he used to be. Those who claim that Opie's critics don't consider his contributions or aren't long-term listeners should review bits from WNEW or the early XM show, when Opie's contributions were still fresh and vital. He's a drag on the show's momentum (which is entirely propelled by Cumia, Norton and their better guests) and the reason why so many of their guests suck.

Opie IS always playing passive aggressive...All he does lately is try to get Anthony mad. Its funny how he was on Anthony durring the whole election about Obama, but now seems to be feeling the same way...ever since the waterboarding show. Opie has always had the "too cool for the room" thing that he plays too.

I really don't understand the people who don't get what Opie brings to the show. Maybe you should listen a little closer. The show is a dynamic between the two of them. Seperately Opie is doing nights at WBAB and Ant is installing air conditioners. Opie is the idea man, creates and sets up the bits, keeps the topics moving, has the radio connections, and was the one pushing them behind the scenes when Ant was content to sit there and just be funny. Opies not as funny but he's just as vital.

anyone who thinks opie is worthless on the show doesnt know the show. i'm not saying i necessarily am his biggest fan or anything, i personally dont find him that entertaining.
i do have respect for him though because it's clear he really does have a passion for his medium, as does anthony. he's very knowledgeable about radio as well and i find that impressive. he knows his shit and can damn sure keep a show moving right along.
i would like to hear the show once without him though.

the thing is, every exaggerated comdian(Ant), needs a straight man(Opie). just like any other comedy twosome, there has to be one of each...they compliment each other perfectly, which is why they have done so well. i'd hate to see 'em separate.
