Harkonnen are too gay and many actors were a poor choice, I prefered the original ones (from the 80's movie). Having said that I give them respect for following the story correctly.
@plplplplomg naww they would fuck it up... they would put Christan Bale as Paul........ lol....... "you are desert power" with batman voice.............. sighhhhhhhh........... he did same shit with john conner.
Yeah, screw the david lynch movie. I probably won't particularly be fond of this one either if I watched it all the way, but from what I know of it, it follows the story much better than the 80's movie.
You know, it's easy to criticize this version for it's stupid costumes, shitty special effects, etc. But let's not forget that, unlike Lynch's version, this one doesn't IGNORE THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE BOOK.
You gotta admit Dune is similar to Avatar if you think about it but i think the CGI in Avatar is better looking. James Cameron is a big fan of the novels but he despises Lynch's turd of an adaptation and he was influenced by Dune novels for Avatar with Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Would you also compare The Matrix to Dune as well? Neo was like the Kwisatz Haderach if you think about it and the energy is like The spice.
It was a good movie for a comparatively low budget television epic (one of the best the Sci-Fi channel has ever done), but it does suffer in certain areas. The choice of actors and the sets were all fantastic, but the costumes are utterly atrocious. You can tell they poured almost every dollar they had into the sets and special effects and had almost nothing left for costumes. Also, the acting can be a little hammy, especially on Alec Newman's (Paul) part.
@GriggsC123 yes ive read it i just wanted to say that they published this Scifi Highlight in one big package, were all 3 parts were recut into 1 Big movie. it was just an info. Its the same as the series
And Princess Irulan is such an ineffective character, it's a wonder why they dedicate any time to her at all, when considering all the myriad more important plot points being left out.
The David Lynch version totally shat on the Baron, and didn't do justice at all to the genius of his nature - however, this version doesn't do justice to the strength of the Bene Gesserit, Jessica in particular - I'm still waiting for someone to do it right.
@zapproowsdower I think there is nobody who could do Dune right. It is impossible... The Book is so complex that no movie can be like this treasure :) Everytime movie Dune will be make there is something important to be missed...
@gale2008H its like the lord of the rings was and is: There will be left a lot of details because you cant put all book details inro a 2 or 3 hour movie and dont fall asleep 9 hours of Lord of the rings special edition had the same problem. Or look at The Lost World in the book John Hammond died and the part of the riverhunt never made it into the movie. 3rd film took the pteranodons into it but failed again. Im cool with both Dune Films even the Baron or fremen were not made like in the books.
I think the David Lynch movie was much too faithful to the book, which meant a lot of things that weren't explained in the dialogue were left out, making the movie much too hard to understand.
It was a nice interpretation. My only complaint is they should not had shortened the story of Hawat. He made the latter part of the book open up to another dimension.
I hope the upcoming movie announced last year will make it 3rd time lucky for this story. This adaptation and the '84 movie did not manage to overcome the staged and recital-like qualities that occurs when the producers are not brave enough to nip and tuck such an epic for the big screen. Also, glowing blue eyes? C'mon. Every Dune fan knows they're 'blue in blue' as to sometimes appear completely black.
Great video RoboDan, I really love the pacing and clips selection you had. Also the instrumentals really gave it a Pro feel. Very nicely done. Keep up the great work Robo.
Is that John Goodman as the Barron Harkonnen?

I think that this version of Dune best on characters and story wise, but the original did best on visuals, but I think both are great movies

@alienvspredator444 It was a lot faster paced than David Lynch's version, which I liked.

the original movie sucked, mainly cos it was so needlessly grotesque- but i gotta say i prefered how the worms looked in that one

@stephenfavell= And I preferred the way the Sardaukar looked in that film Unlike the Space chefs seen here. And you're right about the worms.

iva666 1 year ago
@iva666 no not for real its the children of dune the 3rd book of the dune saga.
My critic on it is it got too much of Grafix effects and too bad acters for my opinion but all say its so near to the book. True, but not all of it.
