  • The harrier was actually made by what is now BAE systems, in the UK.

McDonnell Douglas (US) applied for a contract to modify and build the harriers for and in America, just like the f35 but the other way round.

  • Vertical take off? They can only take off vertically or show me a vid of taking off horizontally, it'll make an entertaining video.

  • omg there going to black mesa research facility

  • soo what is it? a plane or a chopper

  • @iFloppyy

    tilt-rotor

  • ah one of the worlds most annoying sounds. wind in a camera

  • Great and kick#%& aircraft and shows another perfect example of the USMC MEU(SOC)'s fast deployment to a combat zone. Hopefully it'll add more weaponry than just door-gunners. Or a Transport VTOL but with jet engines.

  • First of all, capitalize proper names like "Americans". It shows contempt otherwise. Does the Harrier have big propellers like that too? Can it carry a squad of troops? Oh, that's right, the Harrier is a jet fighter. Spotty 'erbert.

  • that wasnt a vto that was a short take off. still impressive though. also, i think the americans copied the harrier a wee bit with this.

  • That's like saying every VTOL aircraft is a copy of the Harrier... Plus the Harrier was co- designed by the United States and the UK, so the Harrier in itself is kind of American...

  • "Plus the Harrier was co- designed by the United States and the UK"

The Harrier was designed entirely in the UK by the Hawker Siddeley aircraft company. It was not "co-designed".

  • Unless he was referring to the AV-8B Harrier II, which was designed by McDonnell-Douglas with help from British Aerospace.

  • designed by? no

    upgraded, yes

it is almost indistinguishable from the gr-1 - that's hardly a designation of new design

    5 months to reply????

  • Well this video was actually filmed at Aux 2, a training airstrip south of Yuma, AZ, and the strip is actually built to the scale of a LHA or LHD type ship, an an amphibious assault ship, so they were actually performing the type of take-off they would do from that.

  • is it normal for them to just hover there, messing around, before they land and then take off again, like happened in this video?
