@nourstupidify The title translates to ungrateful heart, so she's definitely a bitch. In it, the young man is basically singing the blues about unrequited love. It's even got blues intervals, which is a trip in a song like this. I don't think he's supposed to be a creepy stalker, just a heartbroken young dude with enough pride to walk away. If a rapper wrote this song today, it might be called "Dick Teaser" or something equally vulgar.
Bravo Domingo you captured the passion perfectly. Not bad for a Mexican. But please work on the Neapolitan dialect. With your money you should hire someone to help you out.

I think that domingo has a big voice but his voice is somehow flat(not in frequency) and lacks the sharpness and vitality of Pavarotti Corelli and Lanza. am I right?

I have heard Core 'ngrato sung by so many greats. Up until now I have always loved Toni Dalis version. He sang it with so much passion and feeling that I didn't think that anyone could ever sing it any better. However, I have to change my my mind after over thirty plus years. Placido Domingo in this recording is far superior and his technical skills come through brilliantly. Bravo! Bravo!
This is a great version of a classic Neapolitan song, sung perfectly by a 65-year-old (at the time) Domingo. Even today, at nearly 70(!!), he still thrills me with his voice. I think he made a smart choice when he switched to baritone. That will keep him singing for a few more years. Keep it up, Placido! :)

From a technical standpoint there are few better, from an emotional standpoint even fewer. Placido is the best combination I know of discipline and power. If you are not as interested in technical excellence, I can see how you would prefer other tenors like Lanza. That's fair enough. But your negative comment betrays your ignorance of the craft.

This is such a familiar melody. I believe I heard it in a movie when I was young. It is one of the great romantic pieces ever. In later years, I heard John William's(guitar virtuoso) perform it with the title"Catari, Catari" from his (the Guitar is the Song) CD. I really enjoyed listening to this again. Cari amici, sapete che questa meravigliosa canzone napuletana é stata ricordata col maestro Domingo a Budapest, nell' Istituto Italiano di Cultura? Nell' inizio e alla fine si vede la gran sala di concerto dell' Istituto, il palazzo accanto del Museo Nazionale Ungherese.

Domingo è bravissimo e ha una bellissima voce, purtroppo "core n'grato" è scritta in napoletano, e a meno che tu non sia napoletano è difficile pronunciare le parole correttamente. Io credo che la migliore interpretazione sia quella di Caruso, anche perchè la canzone si riferisce alle sue vicende sentimentali, e perchè parla bene il napoletano. Penso che gli sta dietro solo Di Stefano, che anche essendo Catanese, canta benissimo in napoletano.
Cardillo la scrive per Caruso. Anche è vero che è una canzone napoletana. Del Monaco, essendo figlio di napoletano, diceva che per cantare con proprietà lirica questi branni, non si poteva (ne pure si doveva) farlo in autentica pronunciazione napoletana. Esempio: se ascoltiamo Caruso e dopo il cantate Ranieri (napoletano che canta in vero napoletano) troveremo che il proprio Caruso non lo fa' allo stile napoletano. Anche per te, un un buon 2010!
Caruso la canta in perfetto napoletano e anche Di Stefano. Del Monaco aveva il padre napoletano, pero' era cresciuto in Toscana, quindi la sua pronuncia era molto lontana dal napoletano. Ovviamente questa è solo la mia opinione, ma calcola che una persona che è abituata a sentirla in perfetto napoletano (puoi ascoltare Roberto Murolo), si accroge subito se chi canta non è napoletano (anche Pavarotti la cantava con un brutto accento).
Caro amico, ascoltando bene a Di Stefano nella sua pronuncia del napoletano, e dopo a Domingo, qualsiasi direbbe che esiste somiglianza. L' unico argomento sarebbe que Domingo non è italiano, e pure questo fa più notevole tanto l' interpretazione come il suo "napoletano", per dirlo di alcuna maniera. Un' altra cosa, non ho detto che Del Monaco fosse napoletano; ho detto che Del Monaco diceva che per cantare liricamente le canzoni napoletane non si deve cantare in perfetto napoletano.
Cosa posso dirti, ognuno ha le sue opinioni e preferenze. Il napoletano non essendo un dialetto ma una vera e propria lingua, ha delle inflessioni e degli accenti molto particolari, se non conosci bene questa lingua la canzone che canti perde bellezza. Parlare italiano è semplice, ma parlare napoletano è più difficile. E' un po' come se un'italano cantasse in spagnolo non perfetto, magari ha una bella voce, ma se la pronuncia non è perfetta la canzone ne perde in bellezza.
E' vero, amico, ognuno ha le sue preferenze. Ascoltate bene Di Stefano in questo brano, ascoltate il "spaseme" in Di Stefano; non pronuncia alla napoletana, ma è magnifico in quella canzone. Non sono italiano, la mia moglie è napoletana, soltanto sono un musico amante della lirica, e posso dire... Grande Placido, sei veramente bravissimo!

@LordMgls Text is different from Caruso's versione...but I'm noting all "recent" version have this text (Pavarotti, Corelli...). I don't know why...maybe because it's not precisly italian, it's neapolitan dialect. Maybe it could be more difficult to pronunce. I don't know because I'm napolitan too.
However, we have to recognize it's a great interpretation...
How can a dramatic voice, with an instrument that big and that powerful, give such sublime, emotional renderings of these arias? This recording of "Core N' Grato" is the best of Placico's, and up there with Caruso's. I loved Pavarotti, his peronality was larger than life, but in vocal greatness, no one surpasses Placido in the modern age. Bravo, bravo Placido: let us all sing praise to your greatness.

This is such a familiar melody. I believe I heard it in a movie when I was young. It is one of the great romantic pieces ever. In later years, I heard John William's(guitar virtuoso) perform it with the title"Catari, Catari" from his (the Guitar is the Song) CD. I really enjoyed listening to this again. Cari amici, sapete che questa meravigliosa canzone napuletana é stata ricordata col maestro Domingo a Budapest, nell' Istituto Italiano di Cultura? Nell' inizio e alla fine si vede la gran sala di concerto dell' Istituto, il palazzo accanto del Museo Nazionale Ungherese.
La musica é, davvero, una meraviglia celeste; adoro Napoli, adoro la musica napuletana e sono matta per Domingo!

Domingo è bravissimo e ha una bellissima voce, purtroppo "core n'grato" è scritta in napoletano, e a meno che tu non sia napoletano è difficile pronunciare le parole correttamente. Io credo che la migliore interpretazione sia quella di Caruso, anche perchè la canzone si riferisce alle sue vicende sentimentali, e perchè parla bene il napoletano. Penso che gli sta dietro solo Di Stefano, che anche essendo Catanese, canta benissimo in napoletano.

Cardillo la scrive per Caruso. Anche è vero che è una canzone napoletana. Del Monaco, essendo figlio di napoletano, diceva che per cantare con proprietà lirica questi branni, non si poteva (ne pure si doveva) farlo in autentica pronunciazione napoletana. Esempio: se ascoltiamo Caruso e dopo il cantate Ranieri (napoletano che canta in vero napoletano) troveremo che il proprio Caruso non lo fa' allo stile napoletano. Anche per te, un un buon 2010!

Caruso la canta in perfetto napoletano e anche Di Stefano. Del Monaco aveva il padre napoletano, pero' era cresciuto in Toscana, quindi la sua pronuncia era molto lontana dal napoletano. Ovviamente questa è solo la mia opinione, ma calcola che una persona che è abituata a sentirla in perfetto napoletano (puoi ascoltare Roberto Murolo), si accroge subito se chi canta non è napoletano (anche Pavarotti la cantava con un brutto accento).

Caro amico, ascoltando bene a Di Stefano nella sua pronuncia del napoletano, e dopo a Domingo, qualsiasi direbbe che esiste somiglianza. L' unico argomento sarebbe que Domingo non è italiano, e pure questo fa più notevole tanto l' interpretazione come il suo "napoletano", per dirlo di alcuna maniera. Un' altra cosa, non ho detto che Del Monaco fosse napoletano; ho detto che Del Monaco diceva che per cantare liricamente le canzoni napoletane non si deve cantare in perfetto napoletano.

Cosa posso dirti, ognuno ha le sue opinioni e preferenze. Il napoletano non essendo un dialetto ma una vera e propria lingua, ha delle inflessioni e degli accenti molto particolari, se non conosci bene questa lingua la canzone che canti perde bellezza. Parlare italiano è semplice, ma parlare napoletano è più difficile. E' un po' come se un'italano cantasse in spagnolo non perfetto, magari ha una bella voce, ma se la pronuncia non è perfetta la canzone ne perde in bellezza.

E' vero, amico, ognuno ha le sue preferenze. Ascoltate bene Di Stefano in questo brano, ascoltate il "spaseme" in Di Stefano; non pronuncia alla napoletana, ma è magnifico in quella canzone. Non sono italiano, la mia moglie è napoletana, soltanto sono un musico amante della lirica, e posso dire... Grande Placido, sei veramente bravissimo!

@gonzalordm Essa gente que não sabe nada não se aplica a mim com certeza. Originalmente, existem duas estrofes, em que a segunda diz não sei quê do confessor e não sei que mais. Isto é outra coisa. Já nem me lembro. 3 estrofes? Quem cantou a versão original foram o Caruso e o Pavarotti - que eu me lembre de repente. Isto é outra história.

@LordMgls Text is different from Caruso's versione...but I'm noting all "recent" version have this text (Pavarotti, Corelli...). I don't know why...maybe because it's not precisly italian, it's neapolitan dialect. Maybe it could be more difficult to pronunce. I don't know because I'm napolitan too.
However, we have to recognize it's a great interpretation...

How can a dramatic voice, with an instrument that big and that powerful, give such sublime, emotional renderings of these arias? This recording of "Core N' Grato" is the best of Placico's, and up there with Caruso's. I loved Pavarotti, his peronality was larger than life, but in vocal greatness, no one surpasses Placido in the modern age. Bravo, bravo Placido: let us all sing praise to your greatness.

Excelente!!! No entiendo mucho de registros y performances, pero de despues de muchos meses de escuchar conciertos, canzonetas y fragmentos de operas descubri que mas alla de entender hay que sentir... y cuando veo este video es inevitable que brote una lagrima de lo mas profundo y eso es por el sentimiento que transmite Placido en esta interpretacion como en muchas otras... te despierta una pasion que te hace querer aprender cada dia mas... seguir conociendo... descubriendo... Pour un artiste de cette envergure, je trouve que la fin est bâclée. Il n'y a pas de tenue de note, pas vraiment d'excitation, je suis plutôt déçu de cette performance. C'est dommage, qui plus est, lorsqu'il s'agit d'un clip vidéo.

En canciones napolitanas -y en la lírica italiana en general, en especial la belcantista-, nada tiene que hacer Domingo al lado del gran Luciano Pavarotti o Gigli, y no se diga de Giuseppe di Stefano. Sería mejor que sólo cantara zarzuela.

@dendrix01 soy italiano y no tengo demasiada simpatía para los españoles. sin embargo debo reconocer que los españoles tienen una facilidad asombrosa en aprender (bien) el italiano (quizás el único idioma extranjero que pronuncian bien). Domingo y Carreras encima dominan de una forma de verdad increible el napoletano (y conocen los respectivos clásicos de la comedia napoletana con totò etc.). saludos
