  • thank you for going to the time to do this. it is really beautiful and some amazing themes.

  • Truely beautiful....thank you :)

  • RIP

  • No one does "lush" and "suave" in film music as John Barry.

  • trés beau surtout danse avec les loups

  • No "Mountains and Sunsets" from "You Only Live Twice"?

  • My granny made me cry with her awful cooking but this guy makes me fall to my knees and curl up like a foetus. I love the way he moves me.

  • What a talent - don't forget the TV series stuff he also did. This takes me back to childhood (I am now 48). Looking back it was pretty lame as a TV series - but that music definately stands the test of time. Quite a haunting piece. Brilliant.

Check out the theme from The Persuaders.

  • Happy Birthday John. Your awesome....thank you!

  • Dances with Wolves is beautiful!

  • Goldfinger, The Living Daylights & You only live twice are my favorites! ♥

  • In my opinion "The Lion in Winter" is his best score for which he also won an Academy Award. Very haunting and powerful score. Also "Dances with Wolves" is very epic. His music never gets old.

  • That John Barry guy is lucky that he gets to score movies. I wish I had that God-given talent.

  • John Barry R.I.P one of our greatest composers. So many great Bond themes and many other movie theme tunes

  • what no game of death?

  • It is impossible to think of the James Bond films without also thinking of John Barry's thrilling and majestic scores to many of them. Barry was able to craft that unmistakable "Bond" sound and feel, in the process creating the perfect atmosphere to complement the exotic locales and intriguing characters which Ian Fleming's novels required.

  • dances with wolves and out of africa are barry's best film scores!!!

  • the magic man...genius..RIP...wow

  • Black Hole and You Only Live Twice omissions aside, well done!!

  • You can't beat a brit for composing...RIP JB

  • Who are the eleven idots that disliked this??? They do not know real music!

  • I just want to say Thank you John RIP

  • RIP

  • Enjoyable real good music, he's plain genius.

  • one word: genius!

  • ΚΟΡΥΦΑΙΟΣ.Ο ΘΕΟΣ ΝΑ ΑΝΑΠΑΥΣΕΙ ΤΗΝ ΨΥΧΟΥΛΑ ΤΟΥ

  • Movie composers nowadays can be considered music schlubs because they can't seem to write anything more than two extra-loud chords. Beautiful melodies??? Get real, music schools don't teach how to write those. Imbeciles with long hair endlessly twanging electric guitars...thats modern America and modern American music.

  • @ZeekWolfe1

will have to agree with that statement. Nothing but trash out there in the UNited States-then these untalented so called musicians have the nerve to steal from past musicians and call it sampling

  • @creolelady182 gimme a break when someone enhances tunes and you dont like it you dont have to listen or buy it get off your high horse.

  • @fivedinners "enhances". lol cool story bro

  • I was able to go to John Barry's Memorial Concert at the Albert Hall last night. What a wonderful legacy he has left for us to enjoy- the music is thrilling, emotional and beautiful. Thank you, Mr Barry. Rest in peace.

  • So, he did music for alot of "007" movies.

  • Born in York. Walked past his house yesterday.

  • Music genius. I grew up listening to his masterpieces. His legacy will live forever !!!!

  • The fact that his Complete Greatest Hits Collection has nearly 60 pieces of Music is a real testament to his talent. If a had to choose only a few favorites, they would probably be 'Out of Africa', 'Somewhere in Time', 'Dances with Wolves', and his little-known - but exquisitely beautiful - 'Moviola' theme. Calling them extraordinary is almost an understatement !

  • My all time favourite was the theme to Midnight Cowboy the harmonica playing was brilliantly haunting in a way that made me cry absolutely perfect for the content of the film you will live on through your music John Thanks for wonderful memories ......

  • que maravilla!

  • You saved the BEST for last! Somewhere in Time was not a very popular movie but it has a growing following. I challenge anyone to watch the end without bawling your eyes out. It just cant be done.

  • God bless John Barry.

  • @Texasfilly101 The music of John Barry absolutley puts chills down the spine. The Bond themes alone have an immediate flavor, one of the greatest of all time. His music changed my life as well.

  • Dances with wolves ... i'm 30 and i'm going to cry !!!! GENIUS MUSIC !!!!!!

  • This man changed my life with his music.

    Rest in peace, sir.

  • Out of Africa is enough, he didn't have to do much after that !

  • Rest In .Peace. John Barry

  • The man with the Midas touch!

  • Living Daylights... I am a John Williams fan for ages, but this is my favorite score of all time.. Classic.

  • @tkmariner Didn't ah-ha do the theme for that bond movie? Of course John Barry did most of the songs, but mostly based on the theme song! Though the theme song was based on earlier bond themes -> John Barry.

  • Didn't know he died. He was a musical genius.

  • Where's Game Of Death ?

  • on her majesty's secret service theme song is awesome

  • @lolwut121 Sounds like a "The Incredibles" music type.

  • @lolwut121 It's my favourite Bond theme

  • why not use the original themes from the specialist, midnight cowboy and the deep, they are not difficult for a real jb fan to have.

  • Comment removed

  • He was a classical composer and will be missed.

  • Thank you for the music,John..R.I.P.

  • Where 's Game of Ther Death Main Theme ????

  • beyond genius, if I could have just been the one to write any one piece of his vast musical catalog, I would died a happy man. Sorry to nitpick, but "The Black Hole" far,far outshines "The Specialist" and several others on this list. The movie was elevated just by having JB's fantastic score to give it a very creepy and scary setting.

  • beyond genius, if I could have just been the one to write any one piece of his vast musical catalog, I would died a happy man

  • Just a genius. Loved the man.

  • How could someone come up with this beautiful stirring music, A true Gift.

  • He will be rememberred by me for his score in Raise The Titanic, i think the best score ever done for a movie.

  • John Barry is now in the company of such great maestros with the likes of Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, Max Steiner, Miklos Rozsa, Alfred Newman, and many, many others... The world of film music has lost another brilliant musical voice...

  • undoubtedly the greatest film composer of all time. I can remember listening to James Bond when I was 8. Even if the films were bad, his music was always spectacular.

  • i have only just realised that this great composer has sadly passed, he was a great artist, they don't make them like this anymore

  • go john barry

  • elyannia: beautifully written I echo your thoughts of John Barry and his passing. Compassion goes out to his family and our gratitude to them also for sharing such a talented man's thoughts and creations wth all of us. I join all of you in conveying and sharing affectionate feelings for such a clever man. He will be so sadly missed. jean

  • Many thanks for the John Barry Soundtracks featured in this video really impressed. R.I.P John.

  • An incredible loss to the music industry. No one put love to music better than John Barry. Making love w/the LOML to his Somewhere in Time CD years ago, brought so much more emotion to it all. I can't hear a JB love theme w/o great emotion since then.

Mary, Queen of Scots is a classic as well. Thought that was supposed to be made into an entire CD at one point. I have looked, but have not seen it anywhere. Raw soul penetrating, haunting.

    A legend has left us.

  • When I was 8 years old, my father gave me my first soundtrack: GOLDFINGER. My love affair with Film Scores began perfectly....as John Barry has been my favorite composer (by far) for 47 years now. His scores have so much HEART and SOUL. I read a quote by Jerry Goldsmith (a few years ago, before he passed) that if HE were to hire a composer, he would choose John Barry. I am grateful to Mr. Barry for the thousands of hours that I have spent listening to his extraordinary music.

  • What a terrific loss to those of us who loved his scores so much. "Enigma" is one of my favorite films, and a recent favorite score of Barry's... and the Bond series is unimagineable without his talents. He will be sorely missed....

  • The most beautiful, moving, passionate music I've ever heard in my life came from John Barry, so I was very sad when I heard that he's gone...

  • Mr. Barry wrote the theme music for a tv movie in 1975 titled Love Among The Ruins starring Sir Laurence Olivier and Katharine Hepburn. The song is beyond brilliant. I cannot believe this tv movie is not out on dvd. I defy anyone who hears it not to be touched deeply. What a musical genius and icon. RIP Mr. Barry.

  • A true genius, up there with the greats of John Williams and the late Jerry Goldsmith. Why hollywood ignore Barry in his later years was completely bizarre, Barry was as good as they got.

  • The Cotton Club score is brilliant!!!!!!!!!

  • Nooooooo! Not John Barry! He was not that old. What a terrible loss for us James Bond fans!

  • The Lion in Winter gives me chills....

  • The guy was crazy talented. Cinema loses without him.

  • John Barry was the greatest!

    He will be missed RIP

  • So sad to hear about John Barry passing away last week. I know he'd retired from film music years ago due to disatisfaction with the working conditions and the general negative attitude towards film music in the film industry. Like Goldsmith and other composers, his music will be kept in catalogue and it's quite a legacy to leave behind.

  • R.I.P JOHN u will be truly missed!

  • Bangers!

  • first john barry and yesterday maria shneider r.i.p

  • Simply put... the best there ever was.

  • R.I.P John Barry

  • Thank you so much for the beautifull medley <3 I have listened it through and through and cried because we lost this great composer...

  • Along with Nino Rota,Ennio Morricone and Bernard Hermann,Mr.Barry,in my opinion,is among those four film music composers, who are the greatest of the past 50 years. Barry had a great gift for melody, arrangement and orchestration.A superb talent who will be deeply missed.Riposa in pace,Signore Barry.

  • 8:12 The music at 8 minutes 12 seconds was used in a television programme. What was it? A children's programme? Anyone know?

  • @HBiiRogue You're right....The music was written for Midnight Cowboy....but it was also used

in one of the 1970's or 80's BBC childrens programmes about art (maybe had Tony Hart in it?)

  • @HBiiRogue Hi,i'm pretty sure the program you're thinking of was called 'Wildtrack'

  • John Barry may have left us - but we have a priceless legacy

  • Not only is Barry amazing and heavily missed, but kudos to benydebney for such an amazing video. Thanks, friend.

  • genius like him never dies

  • A legnagyobbak között van!!!

  • Truly magnificent one of the greatest composers of film music this Century alongside Ennio Morricone. Sadly missed but his legacy will live on

  • R.I.P John Barry :(

  • RIP John Barry

  • John Barry Prendergast... Maybe the greatest composer of music of the late 20th century...and who just happened to compose film scores for the maybe the world's greatest art form.

  • Now all that remains from the old-timers are John Williams & Ennio Morricone... RIP Sir John Barry!!!

  • Thanks for taking the time to share this with us

  • John Barry... rest in peace, you have left great pieces of love and work behind, your music will always be cherished by people and your soul will remain here, in the core of your artistic heart that keeps beating in the music that you left behind, each note pulsating with the emotions that remain in the compositions that you gifted for eternity, like seeds that grow precious each day, blooming into fadeless beauty, timeless and pure, ineffable and eternal... thank you.

Bedankt John Barry !! Bedankt voor Uw prachtige muziek.

  • He had such a distinct sound. the music just swelled with emotion at certain parts emulating the film. He will always be remembered for the James Bond films, but he worked on such classics like Dances with Wolves, Somewhere in Time, etc. RIP,

  • Adios Jhon

  • schitterende muziek, geeft een mooi overzicht van zijn volledige werk.

  • It's impossible to imagine any of these films w/out their soundtracks -- as crucial as the sets, the script, the actors, the costumes, the director, etc. And unlike all of those, the music can stand on its own. RIP Maestro. (HarperLee55)

My favorite are Out of Africa, A High Road to China, Dances with Wolves, Somewhere in Time, Scarlett Letter, Born Free and his best Bond was On Her Majesty's Secret Service. He is one of my favorite three film composers along with Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota.

  • Several years ago I was in Paris and wandered into one of my fave churches (Eglise St Roch, 1ier) and there was a concert of amazing music including the main theme from "Out of Africa." John Barry composed so many stunning and memorable scores... Sir, you will be missed.

  • John, you've inspired me my whole life. Back in the days of the tiny black & white TV, the sound was more like 80% of the movie. Thanks for being so prolific in your short 77 years on the planet. Even King Kong(1976) remains a cult epic mainly because of your score. Nobody did it better.

  • One of the best composers in the world R.I.P. John Barry.,

    You never will be forgotten.

  • John Barry was one of the GENIUS' of the film world. RIP John.

  • All the wonderful comments show how much he was loved, his music is his legacy and it will last forever, the word Genius is banded about too freely these days but it certainly applies to this man and his music, 5 oscars is testimony to that in itself.

  • Today was the first time I ever cried for the passing of someone involved with show business. I have been a fan of John Barry since the age of 10 when I saw my first James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". I loved his scores for "Somewhere In Time" - "Dances With Wolves" and "The Deep. There are other fantastic composers... but only one John Barry. I will never forget you.
