  • Oh Nevermind! I didn't have cable #3 plugged in all the way! WOO HOO MY PHONE IS WORKING!!! Thanks a million for your VERY helpful video!

  • I followed all instructions carefully! I was a bit worried because the back of my new lcd did not have a mirror like my old one. Is this necessary? My phone turns on but is not responding to my touch to slide and unlock my phone. What did I do wrong or is it because the lcd didn't have the mirror? Please help!

  • @healingharmonicsllc the cable is probably not connected right

  • i hate blacks and baptists

  • Where did you get your screen ?

  • @Nicefswagg Ordered from Wireless Finest on Amazon

  • U just have to work it out with a paper clip

  • Hi There, I took out the screws and the sim, but when i pull on the screen with the suction cup,

only the touchscreen comes. the glue lets go. any suggestions? Can put the suction cup on the lcd? thnx

  • No sneezing!!!

  • Win iPhone 5: goo.gl\k55ge

  • so i was really careful and replaced the screen, but now the digitizer wont work and the backlight wont come on.. help?

  • my replacement screen came with a hole where the button on the bottom should be?? help!?

  • i used a techdeck screw driver and the same wedge tool he had

  • hi, how did you get the old lcd from the mounting bracket, or did the new one come with a new bracket

  • THANKS MAN THAT WORKED YOU ARE AWESOME

  • Excellent tutorial, i fixed mine in only a matter of minutes.

  • Thanks for taking the time. This helped me fix my iPhone.

  • I just replaced the touch screen on my iphone 3g last night and now the top power button is jammed and will not respond. Any suggestions?

  • i have a problem.... i replaced mine and its starts but the screen doesnt show up

    any help??

  • @pleyades1711

possibly the 1,2, or 3 strips aren't plugged in correctly, happened to me a few times when i fixed my iphone, just have to keep plugging them in until it works

  • @mattevers123 yeah i already solved that problem but now my camera its not working... looks like statics in the camera display, any help??

  • hey, my screen is cracked AND unresponsive, please could somebody tell me if i need a new LCD or digitizer, thanks!

  • Will replacing the LCD screen solve my problem where the bottom section (bottom buttons) are not responding to the touch? Phone therefore will not function. Can use other buttons without any problems.

  • Check that. Make that plugs #1 and #2

  • I am having hell getting plugs #2 and #3 to clip into place and stay. What is the trick?

  • thanks

  • I had a hideous crack that runs from bottom right of the screen to the top left of my 3GS. Much like yours the glass itself is fine, but the LCD isn't. I want to make sure I'm buying the right thing, so where can I get it? As well as the tools.

  • do you think you can fix my iphone 3Gs..the iphone still works but the only problem is that all i can is white. i dont see anything else.

  • The guy CONSTANTLY keeps his hands between the camera and the phone--What good is this video?????

  • do you need the tools to get that stuff apart? i got oil in between the glass and the lcd screen(dont ask) and i need to clean the lcd part, but dont wanna fork out money for special tools ill only really use once,

  • @blotzit666 You can get the tools for about $5. You need a small screwdriver, the plastic pry tools and the suction cup. Find them on Amazon from a variety of sellers. I got mine from Wireless finest. If you got oil on the LCD I don't know if you can clean that or if you need to replace.

  • @Gaird8

    -tool kit $1.80 Ebay

    -Iphone 3g screen $19.35 Ebay

Thanks for the tutorial gaird8. Just a note took a while to find the 2 side screws to remove the screen (it's covered by black tape) Great video Thanks again

  • how do you separate the old LCD from the mounting bracket, is it glued? i haven't found one video on you tube that explains this step?

  • @satriani32 I left this part out of the video by mistake. There are thin strips of adhesive on the long edges of the LCD that hold it to the plate. Start at one corner and gently work the tool under the edge to separate the adhesive. Soon it will pop off. Take care of the plate not to bend it. If you are replacing a bad LCD it does not matter what happens to that part.

  • @Gaird8 Do i need any new glue or adhesive to connect new display with mounting bracket?

  • @kuber1905 The replacement LCD should have the adhesive on it already.

  • mine doesnt turn on

  • @gohanssj13 - mine also didn't turn on when I initially finished. I had to open the phone back up and snap the ribbon cable #1 back down (it kept coming off). Eventually, I got it to stay and the phone came on. Hope this helps.

  • Thank you so much! My new screen looks great!

  • where did you get your lcd and did it come with the metal mounting bracket???????????????????????????/ please respond phone is completely black and the bottem half were the slide to unlock is dosent work any answer would be awsome

  • @TheDewey125 I got the LCD on Amazon. There are many vendors, I used Wireless Finest. The bracket is part of the iphone, you do not need to buy it.

  • I Just bought a iphone replacment kit on ebay and this video is the best one I've seen and now my iphone works perfect. thanks

  • my screen is soo cracked i cant get the suction cup to work lol :(

  • @manvstaco You can use the pry tools if your screen cannot take suction. Take your time, they tend to mangle the seal.

  • what products do i need to purchase before I begin my repair

  • @nvlptl If it is just the LCD, order an OEM replacement one. If it does not come with a toolkit, you can get one separately for $5 or so. Get one with the suction cup, its the best for removing the glass.

  • Amazing - thanks :)

  • This vid is awesome saved me around 100 bucks that I was quoted at the local repair shop. I will mention the number three is tricky in that on my phone the piece is white that hold the ribbon but the little flap that needs to be gently lifted to slide out the ribbon was black. That little tid bit of info would have been nice before hand I chipped a little of the white thing trying to pry it up until i noticed that the black flap on the end flipped up easily. All in all terrific video!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this phone willl never be the same

  • thanks to this idiot i just fucked up my iphone. i dont understand why he couldn't show how he takes the 3rd ribbon off or at least say its held by a WHITE clip??? all i wanted to do was change a cracked screen. but i broke the locking mechanism for the 3rd ribbon and now my iphone turns on without showing anything. THANKS ALOT!!!

  • *** WARNING***

The number 3 connector has a white clip that needs to be opened and closed. The ribbon doesn't just slide in and out. My pins were bent because of this misinformation. Now my headset speaker doesn't work and I have to use a Bluetooth earpiece or the audio jack earpiece.

Other than that the rest of the video is on point.

  • @sykeodelic Thx for your comment. I mention the clamp on ribbon cable #3 at 1:15, with a warning that it is very delicate, and take your time opening it. Once open, the ribbon does slide in and out of the receptacle. It is clamped in place vs. having the clip hardware attached on the end of the ribbon like #1 and #2.

  • Hi,

I have an iPhone 3G that blew up because I bought a cheap crappy iPhone charger on eBay. :@ I want to sue the seller sooo bad ! :@ There were sparks flying when I plugged in the wall charger & my iPhone blew up & now is dead. I bought a new OEM charging port but it didn't work. New battery didn't work. I'm assuming it's the motherboard that's been blown up too & is dead now. Is there any way I can fix it ? Or is it damaged beyond repair ? Thanks ! :)

  • @GODLOVEEESYOU I am not qualified on motherboard issues, but this does not sound repairable from your description. Good luck.

  • I followed your instructions very carefully and now my iphone is in working order again. Thanks for posting the video, Gaird8! You're a lifesaver :D

  • @zookaba1 Great, glad you saved some money, too!

  • I was wondering, how do you take off the metal casing of the old LCD screen to the new one?

  • i have broken my screen when i dropped it on a tile floor, now all i see is a white screen with grey lines on the right of the screen.. i am wondering what exactly is the problem and i also would like to know if it is possible to take the screen of an ipod touch and replace the broken iphone screen with the one i took from the ipod touch.. appreciate your help thanks.

  • Lets Just Say My iPhone got ran over three times.. (They are F**king Tough)

Had A Shattered Screen and A Fudged Corner on the LCD.. :D

  • I was successful my first time, with no experience, by following instructions carefully. I would give others the benefit of the doubt their first time, too. Regardless, this video is about replacing a bad LCD, so with that in mind, it does not matter if one is rough on the removal, since that part is already non-functional. In this case I would err on the side of the LCD, since that is the part being replaced vs the frame.

  • @Gaird8 Thats fine if you have experience removing it this way. But seeing the people that will be watching this video are doing so because they have no experience should use the least risky way of removal. The small screwdriver that comes with kit for tear down is small enough not to bend the frame. Even so I would much prefer a bent frame than a ruined LCD.

  • GET:_:IPOD::`TOUCH;;.F'R'E'E-__

    COPY.'`THE`':ADDRESS`:;

  • DO NOT REMOVE LCD FROM CASE LIKE THIS 2:04!! THIS WILL RUIN YOUR LCD!! USE SMALL FLATHEAD ON SIDES TO SEPARATE LCD AND CASE!! NOT BOTTOM!

  • @cutteracc I have removed LCDs this way several times without problem. It works if you go slowly and carefully. The method from the sides will work, too, but requires more spreading of the frame, which can bend it. However, if you go slowly and carefully, that way will work, too.

  • @Gaird8 I'm sure you have removed it successfully from the bottom plenty of times but for people that are doing this for the first time hence where watching this video have not and need the safest way to do it. The flathead is small enough to not bend the frame and even so I'd much rather a bent frame then a ruined LCD.

  • @fc3worships I am sorry but you are incorrect. This video is about replacing a bad LCD, and it is wrong to advise someone to risk the frame to spare a defective LCD, then they will have two parts to replace ;^) If you are repairing another part of your phone and the LCD is good, then it is unlikely you will be removing the LCD from the frame in the first place.

  • @cutteracc I Agree! I broke mine that only had dust in between the LCD and the Digitizer...! CAREFUL! The best way to do it is sliding the flat end tool in between sides to separate it! Cheers!

  • So hey, could you answer on this question?

So I got my iPhone wet (Not completely wet, but still wet) one very rainy day. And I was so tired of the rain that I just emptied my pockets and left the iPhone wet on the table. So I came back for it some hours later, and it was cold as f***. I tried to turn it on and thought it was dead. But I can slightly see whats going on on the screen, so I think it is the backlight who is destroyed.. Is this something I'll be able to fix myself? It's an 3GS.

  • @atatyrknumber1 I was able to fix mine. You must completely dry it out. I used a product like DampRid instead of rice. I didn't want to deal with the fine rice dust.

I opened the phone, removed the glass and took out the motherboard, put all on a small tray sealed in a large ziploc baggie on a bed of the DampRid for 24 hours. Dried everything out nicely, except the LCD will likely be damaged, and needs to be replaced. Make sure you get the correct part, I don't think 3G and 3GS will mix.

  • @Gaird8 Thanks, I'll try to repair it. If it dosn't work or something I'll come back crying :P (not really)

  • Probably already posted but: "Ribbon cable "3" is held in place by a FPC style connector. You must unlock this connector before sliding the ribbon cable out. The locking mechanism is on the opposite side of where the cable is inserted - it swivels upwards 90 degrees. Use a plastic spudger to lift the locking mechanism." (credits to ifixit)

  • @mhee2b Thx for the detailed description. I had not found specs on that type of connector. Also never heard the term spudger, thx.

  • @Gaird8, Unfortunately this adventure ended in an iPhone 4GS upgrade for my wife. Even after trying 2 replacement LCDs, I could not make Ribbon #1 lock. Both replacement Ribbon #1s seemed to be missing a tiny, long rectangular gray male piece to seat in the receptacle on the motherboard.) I could not find confirmation that there were 2 different socket specs for 3GS iPhones but I still wonder if I got the wrong replacement part. Anyway...not the fault of your great video.

  • great video. the only part that is missing is at 2:36-2:39. how did you take the LCD off the old mounting plate?

  • @smedman my question exactly. Nifty editing!

  • Excellent video. I followed it step by step to replace my 3gs LCD. Works perfectly. Thank you.

  • Best video for taking apart and reassembling the 3GS....I used it to start and finish replacing my home button, dock and battery. Thank you!

  • My screen won't turn on after installation. What could be the problem?

  • I got a question, does the Digitizer hold the home button? I got a LCD and Digitizer coming in the mail, and I would like to know if I have to buy a new home button also.

  • @EFFML The home button is not part of the digitizer. The button is attached to the inside of the device and comes through the hole in the glass.

  • @Gaird8 When I turn on my iPhone, the home button is already getting pressed. So I'm getting a new LCD to fix the water damage on the phone, and a digitizer. So would I have to buy a new home button?

  • Awesome instructions. Thanks! :)

  • thank you for providing this video, it was extremely helpful

  • I was able to do it just by watching this video. THANK YOU!

  • This is a great video, but I think it's very important to include the steps you took for removing the old LCD from the mounting bracket. Do you just rip it off, or what?

  • Hey man this is a really good video, but i have a question. I dropped my iPhone 3g and it got the white screen, so i ordered a new LCD off of ebay and i am currently waiting to get it, should this solve my problem? The iphone is still able to connect to my computer and it is still brand new, with no glass problem.

  • @nickmartir hey man just wondering if you were able to fix your white screen promblem? i dropped my iphone too and i have the same white screen did you replace the lcd? thnx

  • Thanks for the video. It worked great on my sons 3G. The only issue that arose, that threw me for a few minutes, was the cable at the bottom(Dock cable) was stuck to the bottom of the chassis. At first I thought I had some weird model and then after watching the vid, and a few others, I realized it was just stuck and gently popped it off the back. I'm glad it's fixed sine I didn't want to foot the bill for another cell..

    Thanks again

  • I gona used this tutorial tkas for this vídeos

  • Cheers this was great! I got what I needed on Amazon (FYI for those wanting to do this, the LCD comes with tools so you don't need to buy them separate) for under $20. I used this as my guide when replacing the LCD and it was great. the screen has a flicker to it now, and I think I need to re-seat the LCD connection, but that's minor.

  • when you take this apart and do all that, does it remove anything from notes? or pictures? or anything like that. those are my most 2 prized possessions is PHOTOS, VIDEOS, & NOTES...& i don't have them backed up. laptop is too slow!

  • Thank you so so so much. works perfectly, fixed iphone without any problems at all. great video. saved me so much money. i paid $25 for the screen and tools from ebay australia, purchased from hong kong including shipping. very cheap way to fix an iphone. Cheers!!!!

  • I did this but now my touch screen doesn't work. Do you know how to fix this?

  • I did this now my touch screen doesn't work. Do you know how to fix this?

  • thanks

  • Thanks!!!!!! just change a lcd (bougth from ebay for 25 Euros) and change it in 20 minutes.........

(They were charging me 250 Euros for fixing it........)

  • thank you very much for your instructions..... Did as you instructed and brother... worked like a charm.. I screwed up a different lcd screen previously purchased not knowing how easy it is to change by following some one elses video on youtube...

  • Thanks for sharing! I dropped my phone in water and slowly everything but the display came back. My new LCD is in and working great thanks to this video!

If anyone else is interested I got my LCD, tools, and screen protector off Amazon from USMARTStore for less than $30 (and that's including expedited shipping).

    Thanks again!

  • ok last comment-anyone buying the parts from amazon should know that the screen you buy as a replacement is NOT the same in either brilliance of color or resolution as the original. I don't care what the sellers insist, there is a marked difference. so buyer beware.

  • Also, re: the dreaded cable 3-my bracket was black not white. As I'm not a tech person and have no familiarity with the inner workings of computerized electronics, I had no idea if I was just breaking my phone or if in fact the black piece that I got to move was the right piece. Fortunately, the swathe of dead pixels was so large I was willing to kill my phone to give it a go. So, for fellow novices thrown by the color change, your bracket could actually be black.

  • Gaird8--Thank you so much for your detailed tutorial. By far the best of all the tut's posted on youtube. I cracked my 3GS LCD 6 months into the warranty and balked when I walked into the apple store and was told it would cost me $199 to replace. 3rd party repair was no better ($99-150). So I waited the 6 months for my warranty to expire, revisited your tutorial, spent $25 at amazon to get the parts/tools, an hour out of my life, and phone is good as new. THANK YOU!

  • 1:20 talking without moving mouth (i know it's dubbed, im not dumb)

  • @DrMoarbidKrabs oh my god your so stupid whats the point about the video been dub or not ??

  • @mathrobichaud345 just pointing out, you dont really have to care about what i say

  • Hello, I cannot remove the 6 bolts to separate the lcd screen from the digitizer. I have tried with the same screwdriver withwhcih I removed the two bolts on the bottom part of the iphone but it seems to be too big. Is there any "hidden trick" for removing these 6 bolts?

  • i bought the entire lcd assembly (glass, lcd, digitizer) on ebay for 53.25 with free next day shipping.

  • I FOUND THE STUFF BUT I CANT FIND THE BAKING TRAY LOL :P

  • i bought lcd and DIGITIZER for my 3gs the DIGITIZEr worked good but the lcd didn't

and the lcd white from the back not shiny like the original one :(

    what's the problem ?

  • Ordered a new LCD plus tools off of amazon for only 23bucks with free shipping, only took about 10 minutes to install and works great. Thanks for video.

  • hi, i was out cycling this morning and i found an iphone 3g in the middle of the road. i am planning to find the owner. but when i switch it on, the screen is white. the phone is badly cracked and scratched where it could have been run over. please reply

  • I need alot of help. So i replaced my iphone 3g digitalizer and screen. I did everything successfully and i closed the phone. I put the charger in and the screen worked. I reopened to make the screen fit better and than when i closed it the screen didnt work. I read in previous comments that i burnt the lcd out? What does this mean? Also the phone used to work but now when i connect it to my computer nothing happens. I need help

  • Which parts did you order off of amazon? Also, I might have missed it but did you remove the LCD from the old bracket and put the new LCD on it?

  • @youngbuck257 I got the LCD and a toolkit off Amazon. There are lots of places that sell them, I got mine from Wireless Finest. I did use the same bracket for the LCD, that part was not shown in the video.

  • Great video thank you so much thanks to this i was able to successfully replace the lcd screen on my iphone 3g thanks again and god bless.

  • Here is one for you to fix: ttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200551763470&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

  • My Iphone Got Steped on, THe Screen is just a white color and is badly cracked, but i can still use the touch screen to unlock the fone and wht not, just cant see. would i be better off buying a new phone, or repairing it like u say? please reply

  • @MrJoeyB23 i have this same problem

  • -.- i replaced, i connected everything back all oki lcd not working >.< WTH!

  • @kiriconan Did u connect lcd while the phone was on? If so ive heard its been burnt off, and the same happens with me, is it black with gray crack line things when u turn it on?

  • @staver76 I dunno WTH happenned but i let the battery die and i recharged and it was working again =/... Hey my iphone is fixed ^.^

  • DUDE THE SCREWS ARE A PAIN IN THE ASS FOR MEEEEE >.<

  • thank you! where can i get a all new lcd and glass and how much would it cost? im looking for the main front part that you take off in the beginning of the video.

Let me know if I can help!

  • you skipped the part about removing the LCD screen from the mounting plate...

  • @shortandviet

    i know right

    help...?

  • @magicfanatic911

hey, so i tried exactly what they had done and it worked as they said it would. i placed mine in the center of my toaster oven at 200 deg for 3 mins and slowly pried the plastic from the glass. put everything back together and it works perfectly fine. u'll really wanna get some new double sided tape to reattach the screen and plastic though. my glass is poking out a bit, but i intend to fix it soon.

  • Can you replace just the glass in the front or do you have to replace the glass AND the LCD? All the touching works the glass is just busted. I went to wireless world and they wanted 60$ just to replace it so i gave them the new screen i bought and he said I HAD to have the LCD with it and said it was going to cost 180$ if he supplied the parts. Can I just replace the glass?

  • @lonelyboringjealous If you can replace just the LCD there is no reason you can't replace just the glass. Tho' usually the glass & digitizer come as a unit, since they are bonded by some strong adhesive.

  • @Gaird8

The adhesive can be easily removed with a heatgun or blow dryer.

  • @Gaird8 @Gaird8

    HI,

We've been trying to slot cable 2 in for 3 hrs, it just won't stay. It sits while we slot cable 3 in, but always moves out again (no matter how still we are).

We've held cable 2 down (cables 1 & 3 are in) whilst we power on & try using the screen, but it appears completely out of alignment (if we press '9', '8' appears to have been pressed instead).

The glass screen we bought has cables 2 & 3 attached, the LCD we bought sperately has just cable 1. Could this be the prob?

  • @samkloss #2 cable snaps into place, it is not a slot. I don't think holding it down is enough to make complete contact. I had to press gently but firmly and do some side to side to make it snap all the way in. The glass and digitizer do have their 2 cables separate from the LCD.

  • @Gaird8 Please read and reply, I have an Iphone 3gs, and the lcd had worked , i was texting and it randomly went white and pink, i then opened it, and turned on the phone by accident and put the lcd on while the phone was on , people say the lcd burned out, is this true? And if i get a replacement lcd will it work or do i need a new whole digitizer and lcd? Cause all i see on my screen right now is black background

  • @staver76 I don't know what's up if you were removing and connecting cables while it was powered on. You could replace the LCD, but there is no way to know what has happened (or not) to the circuitry until you do. You won't know if the digitizer is out unless you can see the LCD to test the touchscreen. If it is under warranty you can try the Apple store first and see what they say. Just tell them it went out, they might take care of you. It's worth a try.

  • @Gaird8 Connecting cables while on, warranty isnt on anymore. Is it lcd? Thank you for replying so far!

  • And it works!! Thanks a lot!!

  • Thanks I just receive my new screen, I will replace it tonight!

  • Hi Gaird8, thanks for this helpful video. My screen works, but the backlight is broken. Does replacing the LCD fix a broken backlight too? Thanks!

  • exellent work mate ,many thankx .

  • okay PLEASE HELP ANYONE !!!!!

i just split the lcd half from my white half just to see how it looks because im going to change the back housing but when i put it back together theres a screen buttons work but NO TOUCH!!!!! HELP ANYONE I AM SO SCARED!

  • @hazel7nut7 what do you mean split the LCD half? If you removed the screws on the sides of the frame, there are thin adhesive strips on the long edges. If you pry gently from a corner it will come off.

  • is this the same for 3gs?

  • Hi there I am having the worst frick time putting cable number 3 back in can you help me out any tips.

  • @minicooperman88 that cable is tough with the small clip. It takes patience if you have normal size hands.

  • @Gaird8

  • @minicooperman88 just bend the cable out so that the cable is flat / straight coming out of the lcd. then slide it in. you might have to wiggle it around a bit. the whole cable connector doesn't insert the whole way, only the tip end of it goes in, around 2-3 millimeters or so. then clamp it down and put the other connectors on.

  • i wanna re-iterate to everyone that might be watching this too. BE CAREFUL when you are pulling the LCD off of the metal plate. it can and WILL break. also, be extreeeeeeeemely careful if you are not using a suction cup. if you are prying your screen out, it's highly likely you will crack it. even just a little pressure cracks the screen! beeeee geeeennntllleee! my screen was already cracked, but when i was taking it out i managed to crack it more, and i was being gentle! BE GENTLE!

  • sweet stuff man thanks alot ! my gf slamed my trunk lid on my phone twice and now its like NEW :D chheers !!

  • do i need to replace my lcd if my screen is completely white but the touch still works i just cant see what i doing?

  • I got a question, PLEASE ANSWER...

I broke my iphone's screen, the touch DOESN'T work, but I can see the screen clearly (all icons can be seen, but I can't click them)

What is broke on my ihpone? The lcd and the glass or ONLY the glass?

    THANX LOTS.

  • @youamebas If touch doesn't work your digitizer and glass may need replacement. You can find them together as a set. If there are no cracks in your LCD it should be OK, but you will have to open up to check it out.

  • @Gaird8 thanx alot.

  • @youamebas YOU WILL NEED A PART IT WILL COST ABOUT £2
