They're not all like that. I've had 2 350z's, and neither of them have had any of those problems. The oil issue is a fairly rare problem that occurs on a low number of cars. I don't think that the VQ V6 would keep making the Ward's 10 best engines list if it wasn't a good engine.

Oh yeah... BMW has a double clutch M series car too. Second, you r right about F1 cars too, the double-clutch trans. were recently banned from racing because they were deemed an unfair advantage. That's right, they work so well that the drivers without them were at a disadvantage. As for the number of speeds a trans has, that's purely a matter of opinion.
A lot of R+D goes into these vehicles. Manufacturers are the best people to determine the best torque and power range to place the gears in. They know what the engines r capable of cause they race them and run them into the ground. Burn them up and rebuild them again. If they say 8 speeds gives you the best control of power, then I'd believe them over you...

This car looks awesome in blue or red. I heard this thing as a demonstration at the 2008 Houston Auto Show, and that car sounds AWESOME! Sweet engine music this car has. People talk about how the exhaust looks. May not be likeable to most, but it adds to its personality. Perhaps one of the wildest Lexus cars to date.
I don't know why everybody hates on this guy...the exhaust tips look awful and lexus can keep the automatic junk. Real car enthusiasts will always prefer manual transmissions, cuz you feel more connected & in-control even if the computerized shifts are a few tenths faster to engage... Also most enthusiasts will probably replace the whole exhaust system anyway, with something more efficient however the fact that you now have to replace your entire bumper absolutely BLOWS. I have an IS-350. I love the car, but gotta agree with this guy about the manual trans. The entire IS line should be offered with a manual. The paddle shifters are slow, never cooperate with what you want them to do, and you dont have the control aspect of the clutch. And 8 speeds? C'mon, this is a sports car that has plenty of horsepower not an 18 wheeler with a 500 RPM powerband. A manual would also eliminate the always inefficient torque converter

In all honesty the automatic just makes the car that much more driveable in the winter. I have this car and I drive it in the Quebec winters; it has a fricken' snow mode. Thanks, and I know. It's impossible to convince people that this transmission will outperform any human being. It's an abstract concept to many that machine > man. And yes, I just recently had a Viper security system installed and while it's a pain in the ass, the extra $1500 is well worth the added protection.
Japanese cars are soulless, German cars are clinical, and Italian cars are sex on wheels. At least that is what they are stereotyped as (and what my experience has been as well).
That being said, I love my IS350 for what it is, but it is not a real sports car and neither is the IS-F (I've driven both at the track). The new M3, despite coming closer to hitting the mark has also deviated from its origins.
I like my throttle mechanical, my headlights round, and my curb weight under 3000lbs.

The IS-F is a GREAT effort for a first time go at the M3 however - but makes me smile about is if Lexus bring this out! We have the C63 - Caddy having a go and the RS4 the next gen M3 will be amazing! And well the fact whielikestar that the M3 E92 and E90 has the msot advanced V8 ever made in it! ... kinda kills ur point.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! This has a double clutch trans like the GT-R, and the Audio R8. It's a an electronically controlled dual CLUTCH transmission. You can control the shifts MANUALLY in sport mode. The computer does the actual shift because its faster then anyone could possibly shift. It's the technology used on Rally cars, F1 cars and other REAL racers! This guys is an idiot. Ultra fast 8 speed trans! I'm there!

Oh yeah... BMW has a double clutch M series car too. For those of you thinking "I feel much more in control", think of how many times you've MISSED that down shift or used the hand break to hold the car while you parallel parked on a hill. This has all the advantages of a manual single clutch trans with all advantages of an automatic as well. Like being able to give your left leg a break in traffic. (Where most us us spend more time driving anyway.)

You are the idiot. Rally cars do not use automatic transmissions. F1 cars use an SMG transmission. 8 gears are 1 too many. 7 gears is the best way to get speed.

U need to realize that Double-clutch is not an automatic. I never said Rally cars use automatics. I said they run Double-clutch transmissions. which is correct. Second, you r right about F1 cars too, the double-clutch trans. were recently banned from racing because they were deemed an unfair advantage. That's right, they work so well that the drivers without them were at a disadvantage. As for the number of speeds a trans has, that's purely a matter of opinion.

A lot of R+D goes into these vehicles. Manufacturers are the best people to determine the best torque and power range to place the gears in. They know what the engines r capable of cause they race them and run them into the ground. Burn them up and rebuild them again. If they say 8 speeds gives you the best control of power, then I'd believe them over you...

Also, F1 still uses smg transmission and will continue using it. And 6-7 gears are the best number of gear. Formula 1 and the veyron both use 7 gear transmission.

This car looks awesome in blue or red. I heard this thing as a demonstration at the 2008 Houston Auto Show, and that car sounds AWESOME! Sweet engine music this car has. People talk about how the exhaust looks. May not be likeable to most, but it adds to its personality. Perhaps one of the wildest Lexus cars to date.

I don't know why everybody hates on this guy...the exhaust tips look awful and lexus can keep the automatic junk. Real car enthusiasts will always prefer manual transmissions, cuz you feel more connected & in-control even if the computerized shifts are a few tenths faster to engage... Also most enthusiasts will probably replace the whole exhaust system anyway, with something more efficient however the fact that you now have to replace your entire bumper absolutely BLOWS. They F'd up.

Manuals are fun. but can be very tiring to drive in traffic, especially high performance cars with heavy clutch pedals. I've become accustomed to an automatic, and my e55 AMG in sport mode shifts damn fast.

And someone mentioned European cars having a harsh ride compared to Lexus. Might be true. My IS350 rides reasonably well for a sporty Lexus. But I've driven the IS-F. VERY fun car, but if ride quality is very important to you, than the "F" is not your car. It rides about as smooth as a dump truck. But hey, most people arent buying this thing for comfort anyways.

I have an IS-350. I love the car, but gotta agree with this guy about the manual trans. The entire IS line should be offered with a manual. The paddle shifters are slow, never cooperate with what you want them to do, and you dont have the control aspect of the clutch. And 8 speeds? C'mon, this is a sports car that has plenty of horsepower not an 18 wheeler with a 500 RPM powerband. A manual would also eliminate the always inefficient torque converter

This guy doesn't know shit. Sure a manual transmission would be nice, as an option, but it would never outperform that 8-speed automated manual they have in there. In all honesty the automatic just makes the car that much more driveable in the winter. I have this car and I drive it in the Quebec winters; it has a fricken' snow mode. Don't think an M3 or a C63 is driveable in the winter.

Thanks, and I know. It's impossible to convince people that this transmission will outperform any human being. It's an abstract concept to many that machine > man. And yes, I just recently had a Viper security system installed and while it's a pain in the ass, the extra $1500 is well worth the added protection.

Japanese cars are soulless, German cars are clinical, and Italian cars are sex on wheels. At least that is what they are stereotyped as (and what my experience has been as well).
That being said, I love my IS350 for what it is, but it is not a real sports car and neither is the IS-F (I've driven both at the track). The new M3, despite coming closer to hitting the mark has also deviated from its origins.
I like my throttle mechanical, my headlights round, and my curb weight under 3000lbs.

The IS-F is a GREAT effort for a first time go at the M3 however - but makes me smile about is if Lexus bring this out! We have the C63 - Caddy having a go and the RS4 the next gen M3 will be amazing! And well the fact whielikestar that the M3 E92 and E90 has the msot advanced V8 ever made in it! ... kinda kills ur point.

Don't feel bad. The Lexus is a magnificent machine. I love that beluga look. It's that lovable nose of a bulldog. Plus bmw should be ashamed. They have had over 23 years of experience in this field and the lexus is still able to press the M to its limits. Like it or not. The IS-f is already an iconic car. Successive variants should put a stake through the heart of that ugly overrated m3.

They had an M3 to test the IS-F against before showing us all.. and it still cannot beat the M3. The newer car should ALWAYs be better as they can make it better and fine tune it against its rival pre launch. But they couldnt muster a better performance or feel from it. Its not a bad car - its just no M3 killer as u and or Lexus claimed. Volvo S60R died by this same sord mate.

A "Me Too" product means it was not made out of a passion for fine precision performance sports cars. The M3 is also known as the surgeons scalpel over all its rivals, C63, RS4 and now IS-F! Remmber please almost ALL tests done with the M3 are only the slower MANUAL version - vs Lexus sequential gear box - so imagine the M-DCT M3 vs the IS-F! You will see an even bigger thrashing! Similar performance difference between the 997 - 911 Turbo manual and sequential box. The manual is alot slower.
