  • You guys are animals down there. I have nothing but respect for you. Greetings from North Dakota.

  • When you say 2 gears gone, that's the split gears n all? So effectively using an 18spd as a 9spd?

  • Do not compare scania to a kenworth, kenworth is the king of the open road!!!!!

  • Is this a daily typical issue for you as a truckie - or given a truck with not enough power for the load?

  • hay man :) being a noob, are u pulling eney thing? good vid ay :)

  • @OMBIC It's a road train - he says he is hauling 170 tonne.

  • Very nice vid. I loved the sound of the downshifts, then the upshifts. I also liked the cool way you explained everything that was going on.

    Have a good day!

  • what is the pyrometer? is that engine temp or coolant temp or???

  • @stvna8040 Pyrometer measures the exhaust gas temperature, either measured at the turbine inlet (exhaust manifold side) or the turbine outlet.

  • @stvna8040 exhaust temp

  • Hey I'm a truck driver in the states.. My theory is if I dont learn something new about trucking (4 yrs) or anything new my day is wasted

  • How many trailers were you hauling?

  • I've had a KT-600A Cummins on its knees before in the Wyoming oil patch years ago.

  • really noisy that truck! You would hardly have heard the engine in the new Scania R730.. :-)

  • @latexarn They sell Scanias in Australia but you never see them hauling quad trailers...there must be a good reason. You only see Kenworths and Macks.

  • @gm16v149 One reason being they can be fixed with a screwdriver & an adjustable wrench when they fart n shit em selves out in the back of beyond. Scania will need a guy on a motorbike & laptop to turn up , plug it in.. then scrach his head & tell you he,ll call a wrecker.

  • @latexarn New scania r730 wouldn't even move such a road train... it might have 105 more horses but american trucks are just so much more powerfull... tho you are right about the comfort... european trucks are comfy as a luxurious car... American trucks are like a bed made of nails...

  • @Sorayan13 a different gearbox on the Road train give them more power .

but type on youtube scania 200 ton , on a 10 % incline and a twistie road it can pull the same ore more .

horses is power , but how a truck it use its 2 stroke for usa , and 4 stroke in europe .

2 stoke high in the rpm high and its need it and high in diesel use inefficient .

4 stoke low in rpm low in diesel needs , a v8 give a sound its music .

  • its auto!!!just hanging on to the wheel!!come play on the great divide inQLD with a 18 speed in a r/t3 or a quad that'll sort ya!!!LOL

  • Mastering a rig like this would be the highlight of my life!

  • Great!! Thanks for the comparison with the Bombay Hill; that puts it all into perspective. And thanks for your interesting commentary that non-truckies could understand.

  • Et le ISX lui attend encore en haut !!

  • And my friends wonder why i drool over Aussie big rigs...talk about power :)

  • How fast in miles were you climbing up that steep hill?

  • @Thinker669 He said 14km/h, so 8.6miles per hour

  • Nice vid mate. What kinda roster they have you workin pullin trailers over there??? You get much time off to watch the SuperRugby???

  • mate i like your work, deadly changes 2000 down to 1600 on each change with 170ton on board thats the pull rev 1600 keep on trucking

  • autoshifts suck!

  • Comment removed

  • @chrisso011 it's all good mate I still have job so I won't be applying in the near future ......gives me time to brush up on my skills a bit ....I'm still a bit green after 26 years of driving so I'll leave your trucks to the experts

  • @kiwitruckerman I'll get that guy to show me how to change gears as well, lucky we got so many experts around lol.

  • @kiwitruckerman .. 170 t w/625hp.. rpm gauge is the least of my worries. work that GD truck son !!!

  • @kiwitruckerman Cool answer dude.

  • @kiwitruckerman ehh hes a troll. if he had trucks hed have a video of them. hell if i had a spare truck. id say, name your price ;) any person that can handle weights like that. is welcome in my book

  • @chrisso011 shut up idiot you're 34 i bet you 100 bucks the guys in the videos know more about trucks than you do and drive better than you.. considering hey was driving truck before you was even allowed....

  • @chrisso011 Have you driven 170tonne? If not, keep quiet.

  • @chrisso011 better off driving around on tickover until it slobbers from the stacks then

i think the man driving knows what hes at ,and aint no steering wheel attendant

maybe you could post a clip of you driving up the same incline with the same load to show how its done LOL

  • Man would I like to ride along with this guy...Drive a truck everyday but this blows my mind...

  • doug gould's quads?

  • NICE!

  • churr bro keep it up i work for mains

  • what do u do with a manual gear box and you miss a gear while climbing and struggle to get it back in gear?

  • @stvna8040 if you miss one, you should look for 2 lower ones!!!!!!hahaha U learn to not miss shifts because it sucks trying to get er going on any kind of grade in the road with that weight on. You heard this driver, sometimes he downshifts and takes 3 gears lower, sometimes 2..U can tell he's an experienced driver...very calm and in control..smooth too

  • @MrCanadarulez isn't this an automatic

  • Why bother with road trains - why not build a railway and use real trains? Surely a railway would pay for itself fairly quick for bulk transport like this?

  • @boltar2003

hills are the problem, and a truck the roads are there, you cant make as many rail roads as normal pavement roads, the truck can get to moe places than a train, they are not stupid!;)

  • @boltar2003 Don';t forget the maintenece costs of trains and the rails, the loaders need virtually no maintenece, the truck only a little, and it costs a lot to lay down 100's of kilometres of track.

  • @boltar2003 Feel like laying 3,000 miles of track?

  • Is it tri-drive? Where are you carting to? Nice truck.

  • its not often u see 600 horsies on thier knees!!

  • @allistairc123 very true, but the crazy aussies love to try make it happen. Absolutely mad haulin that much weight with one truck

  • How much boost did you say?

  • @JaKeL13 With the noise of the truck and the kiwi twang I struggled to understand for a sec too. He says the top three gauges on the left are diff temperature ("duff timpritchar" hehe), and in the middle on the left the turbo gauge indicates 50psi.

Good job @kiwitruckerman, i'm only teasing you about the accent. I can hear you've spent a lot of time here in Aus too though, we've Aussified you in spots ;-)

  • here in Germany is absolutely not possible, here is limited barrel to 40. and 18.75 m all that is longer and harder you need special permission. or the fear people have about their road

  • O_o

  • that fan must be doing a pretty good job to be able to kick out for abit before you even hit the less steep stuff

  • I know the australian trucks are long. what is their total max weight or length? or is their any?

  • most gearboxs in australia are 18 double overdrives there was a lot of 15 and 13 speed years ago but as the horsepower got higher they needed bigger gearboxs and less dependfing how you drive them you might only use 10 gears to get into top gear pulling a load like this you would more than likely use every gear because if you didnt might fuck fuck a clutch or tail shaft

  • This is when the Safetypass Pro comes in handy as hec. It makes your cruise control work, even a low speeds down to 1mph.

  • I love Australian accent!

  • how u go down hill??do u have a retarder??

  • wut gears were u in

  • Cooling fan running overtime good vid

  • How hot did the manifold tempture get ?

  • Well, I like your attitude. You seem to take things in stride. Gotta tel you though, you sure sound like an Australian. Tell me something, can New Zealander's and Australian's tell each other apart just by accent? Because obviously, I can't.

  • @554687858 Ask them to say fish and chips.. A Kiwi will say fush n chups .. or is it the otherway round . I cant remember, was a few years back. lol.

  • @554687858 Yes, we can. Because they sound like kiwi's and their women are sexy as sin. And we sound like australians, and our women aren't as sexy. except for the big mauri girls, they are scary.

  • @sovereign126 dude, tell me more about the big mauri girls. I kinda' like them scary.

  • @554687858 Big... muscly, beat their men on occasion. nothing to be afraid of.

  • What is this screen out in the front for?

  • @GFOgravedigger that's they call a bug deflector........... keeps the bugs off the winscreen............ well some of them

  • @kiwitruckerman bugs camt through winter strong again

  • what trailers you towing on that?

  • @joshuabailey1000 4 side tippers carting bulk manganese

  • @kiwitruckerman

You need an automatic shift, makes life much easier.

  • @kiwitruckerman and how fast does get the roadtrain on straight and how fast if you drive down the hill?

  • I love to listen to Aussies talk - They always sound like they don't have a care in the world and that everything's going to be OK. You can't help but like them.

  • @554687858 gee shame I'm a kiwi.... you might not like me now

  • @kiwitruckerman Dude, what's a kiwi?

  • @554687858 New Zealander

  • Is he driving on the LEFT side of the road? That's not right.

  • gotta love the auto ive got a good vid of the eaton auto

  • I thing you gota a bird shit on the front window :-)

  • Wow; That's some real truck driving there partner....

  • hard right

  • How much does the engine temp increase going up that sort of hill with so little airflow?

  • great video!! I've used cat,Detroit,Cummings and Mercedes motors all around the 450 to 500 hp and all with load and the truck weight totaling on average of 65 tons on hell hole roads hauling logs in Canada and the best was 475 cat single turbo i have in my star i got better fuel mileage with my cat then i did with Mercedes or Detroit, cat and Cummings had the best lugging power up hills and tried 625 twin turbo accert cat as well they pull great and get pretty good fuel milage for the power!!

  • was the everest near the nullagine crossing ?

  • tour on the wrong side of the road lol

  • @Roncollinson its in Austrailia where they drive on the left

  • 170 TONNE, wow, lol

In my occupation I pull around 4000 tns at 115kph.

    Nice vid though.

  • @locooperater so how many and how big are the engines in your "truck?"

  • Hello, from Argentina.

I saw the revolutions of the engine to about 1800 rpm.

This way of driving is correct or the regime is high incorrectly?.

Here at Argentina the engines run at 1200 rpm.

    Regards and thanks

Hola, desde Argentina. Vi las revoluciones del motor a alrededor de 1800 rpm. Es correcto ese modo de conducir o el régimen es alto incorrectamente?.

Aquí en Argentina los camiones trabajan a 1200 rpm.

    Saludos y gracias

  • soktuğumun salakaları siz rampa görmemişsiniz

  • That was a real enjoyable video mate, thanks for sharing!

  • Great stuff mate whats the laws out there for driving, are you limited to driving hours and breaks like here in uk

  • Only a bloody kiwi would film himself while driving at same time. Good on you bro. You know the saying..."without kiwi's Australia would stop!"

  • @4wheeljive pork bones and pooah bro!!

  • ONLY 600HP? Wtf

  • @wdowa94 they need torque

  • how fast can you drive downhill with that weight?

( also the slope in%, length, and does depends on the temperature outside)?

    thanks in advance

  • impressive truck you got there, but couldnt you upload a video when you do the dumping, I would like to see how you dump the whole train.

    cheers Haustan

  • hey mate you still working over that way is it better money than the east coast

  • Super Video! The new Scania (730HP 3500nm) is also very suitable for Australia.

  • how many gears?

  • @iambehindthemirror

should be 12 or 16 depending on the gearbox but no long haul cab like usa trucks available

  • @pangolinio alrighty.

  • @pangolinio nerly every semi in australia run 18 speed boxes, can get a 50 inch bunk in kenworths, western star have a 63 inch bunk available but length laws dont allow many to use this sleeper,

  • @muckrunner308 the cab reply was on the reaction from frankfranke who suggested the scania r-cab with 730hp. i didn't know you guys had 18 gears, we have 12 on automatic shifters and 16 on manual shifters, so how are yours set in the patern? we have 4 high and low in low ratio and in high ratio.

  • @pangolinio we have the same setup apart from 2 super low crawlers in low range which are rarely used except for heavy road train and heavy haul

  • @pangolinio 730hp,lol. try 4400 hp a piece.

  • @iambehindthemirror I am sure, its a 18 speed auto.

  • Great video, do you rely on engine braking down the other side or would that cause snaking and you use the trailer brakes?

  • Hey Kiwi - you need an offsider? lol

  • This video shows how much more you have to gear down than if you were hauling a single or two trailers. You would want to make sure the rig's cooling system works well, especially in the hot summer there. If you ever want to pass one of these road trains, a hill would likely be your best opportunity to do so.

  • I'm in america, and I love American trucking a lot, but man, the way yall do it In Australia is sick! Keep it up buddy!

  • is tht goulds truck miss daisy? wit the eaton auto?. tht hill is evil, the westrac field service ute started to struggle on that hill...

  • That's a long time to be holding her at 1700rpm. Could you have gone up another half gear? Hard to tell the grade on the video and never been on that road myself.

  • she pulls good considering she's got 170T on her arse, :D Good job man.

  • Nice video i drive with 1 trailer in europa and a DAF 105-410 bhp euro 5 engine and goos much faster uphill than this KW.

  • so whats the biggest hill you drove up and how long did it take you with a full load and what type of a truck do you usely drive. my older brother is in W.A. Port headlend working there, he does no less than 60 hours per week but no more than 90 something a week. is it really good money to drive trucks in W.A. as I'm looking in doing it here for 12 months then get my MC over there and earn money there. Thanks

  • What a way to make a living!

  • great video thanks

  • call yourself a kiwi you speak like a DIGGA MATEEEE

  • Great parnter , I love your Aussie ascent man that sounds great. The Truck & trailer

with 170 tons man thats something. Go buddy keep truckin. Love the posting Good Job.

  • go the kiwi/s good old trucking

  • you forgot to take some shots of dropping it off at the wharf

  • How often do you get breakdowns way out back? If you do who do you call? You surely cant just leave the truck on the side of the road..

And you said 50psi from the turbos- How do you keep reliability with those pressures, or is it just a diesel thing?

  • you said what??

  • i though the acerts never came out till the new emmission laws there only a c15 with a twin turbo is that right and i also though they were only in 908s not pre emmisions witcvh where 904s

  • they were tried first in a few 904's.... they had to be proven under different conditions before emmision standards come into effect

  • just pulled up that hill last night, was going a bit quicker though at 65kmh, 1 trailer is a bit different to 4 up hills

  • What gear was it in? Does stock cooling coupe with the heat?

  • did u find your temperautre gauge creeping up at all up that hill?

  • did u find ur temperature guage creeping up at all in that hall?

  • whos driving while filming?

  • what top speed do you cruise at when flat out ?

  • Golden bay, now that you mention it...

  • Yep we are still back here in NZ same similar spec at 44 ton,, a joke,,Better roads and a much higher gvm would be a bonus to the whole industry,Good to see a kiwi with a rig working to potential :),,.

  • awesome video i would love to head to aus and drive one of those. ive done abit of driving around the east coast/gisborne region over here in nz some steep hills round us. i was in a 2000 foden with a c-12 18 speed road ranger 450hp one hill was only getting top speed of around 15km/h. got any advice for someone wanting to head over and get into this? i may move to melbourne this year and live with my dad that way at least im based in the country to start looking

  • @ricecakenz First of all, qualify in your MC class (road train) One of the easiest places in Australia to do it would be Victoria or Queensland. I know Victoria has an accredited tester scheme, istead of going to some government office for a licence test. In Vic, you hand in your "passed" learner's permit, and they issue with your new licence. Once you've got that, move west, and find a hotshot freight company (urgent freight to minesites) From there, keep working

  • ok sweet cheers for all the info im sorting out my passport at the moment so i can head over in a couple of months to get it all sorted and find the work.

  • It's the hotshot freight companies that will be willing to help you gain experience. I worked for one in WA, as an HR (Heavy Rigid) driver. The hours and the pay can be unpredictable, but at the moment, there's a lot of resources development going on in the Pilbara region of WA, so you will be kept busy. When you get to WA, search in the suburb of Forrestfield in Perth, just south of the rail yards. You'll know what I mean when you get there

  • ok sweet thanks for your help.

  • Damn! Pretty impressive. 170 Tons!

  • Fark!! 50psi!!! Thats nuts!!!

  • @koffeeblack nuts is fricken right, thats something else

  • Cool stuff, can certainly hear the fan clutch cut in and out on the climb..

  • I've driven on this road a few times, the largest truck at the time was a 6-tonner. Last time I was through, I was surprised to see a dingo by the roadside. For those of you unfamiliar, the dingo is the Australian equivalent of a wolf. Highly intelligent dogs, as this one sat by the roadside waiting for the road trains to pass

  • what kind of a grade weer you climbing there? its hard to judge from the video. here in western canada we pull superbees and weigh 63500 kg when loaded. regularly come across 7% - 10% grades or sometimes more depending where you are going. some of our hills are several km long..in mountains some are `10 - 15 km long. different type of trucking i know! what spedd do you run on the flat? what gears ratios do you run?

  • That's a 6% grade. We are speed limited to 100 kph (62 mph) which is the open road speed limit for heavy vehicles here. At this time of the year (summer) ambient temperatures can be as high as 45 - 50C with the bitumen getting over 70C it pays to slow down 10 -15 kph to preserve driveline and tyres

  • is a 100% grade 45 degrees or vertical?

    did u say 50psi boost?

can u shift in fully automatic mode?

  • tpvalley, a 100% grade means the road would rise 100 feet for every 100 feet you go forward, so that would make it 45 degrees. And yes, he said 50 psi boost. This engine is series turbocharged. And yes, you can usually override the transmission in automatic mode.

  • so u can have steeper than 100%!

  • @kiwitruckerman

Bitumen over 70 C, does it not liquefy, getting sticky.

  • 6% grade... speed limited to 100kph on the flat ... I think we run 4.1 or 4.3 diff ratios

  • That's really cool. Makes a 53' trailer here in the States seem kinda small. ;)

And that land looks a lot like my home town of Eastern Washington.

  • The deeper you go out there, the more it starts to look like Arizona's Monument Valley, but with more colour

  • utube always has a surprise.

if you told me i would watch a truck climb and hill and find it interesting, i probably would said no way.

But it was, made better by great commentary from a guy who knows what he doing.

    good, interesting, thanks

  • howdy great vid

i would like to break down out there looks very hursh landscap. cheers. keep trucking

  • If you are kiwi, you've been in ozzie waaaay to long coz you have picked up their 'lovely' accent. hah

  • Needs a engine fan switch to lock the fan in when climbing. Less damage on the fan clutch. Great video.

  • PavelJanda1

    Good video 5*****

  • Loved the vid! Can't nothin' pull like a kitty CAT! ^_^ Keep them good vids a comin' brother. I just subscribed!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the great video, what a beautiful creature (the truck, not you, Kiwi). When can we expect another video, can't wait to here that CAT purring again.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Great vid! If I didn't know better, I'd swear you were in Southern Idaho!

  • Top video!and nice driving! I love the sound of a truck working hard and boy was she working hard up that hill! I bet the turbo was glowing red by the time she got to the top! Pity we don't get them that size here in Endgland!

  • You'd never fit a road train down many English streets. You'd need to redesign the road system to accommodate them

  • i love the end of this vid

    of she powers great truck

hoping to get hgv training in next couple of years

  • real nice vid mate, she was just chilling up there no stress at all!!

  • Great video and narrating mate! Well done!!

  • man you're workin that C-15. I bet the transmission's heat'in up. Awesome sound with the radiator fan blowin. American/Aussie trucks rule.....lets see a Euro truck pull like that!

  • let's see what would do a truck this size on an average european road...

  • the same its doin here....pullin like a locomotive. There's American trucks on European roads doin the samething Euro trucks do.....haul cargo.

  • Where would you leave such a huge combinaton, within 5 minutes it would get stuck in Holland,it cant make a exit of a highway because the angle is to small and the traffic light to short on green haha..

  • Australia was never silly enough to make their roads that small and twisty in the areas where truck travel a lot

  • @6V92TA scania v8 would pull that easy, and without the ridiculous stacks or smoke coming out of it!

  • @05clenharth A Scania V8 will smoke jus as much as a CAT C-15 when pulling under power.....
