I will never forget Freddie Hubbard and Rahsaan invading a late night talk show and ripping them for not hiring black musicians. I believe that was the late 60's because I was still in HS.
AMAZING for a live performance i dont think i really care to hear what the sax player was about to play cause it wasnt going to match that. There probably only three people who could play behind that and sound decent and thats Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, and Clifford Brown
There really aren't many people who can come up with a line as firey, intrecate, or as tastey. Truly a gem that will glisten well into the 21st century
one of the sickest tunes ever. Shorter's solo on the original recording might be the greatest string of sound ever produced...sends me into alternate realm of reality
Oh my word I've loved the album this was originally on for years, great to see and hear the Messengers at last. Great that Curtis Fuller's on the gig, it's his tune
You might try shooting an email at the calicchio company. They made his horns. I found the video through their link. Or type the title in Itunes or on google and listen to the song till you find a recording of this session. Good Luck
@SoulPower89 Hey I pulled this info off the net. The album is called on Baystate (Japanese release) 1984 RJL2025-26 (2 LP's) Live "Nakano Sun Plaza Hall", Tokyo, February 2, 1984. I only have it on disc though
Talk about kickin a man when he's down. Show some decency. What if his family is reading these comments. Forget the fans for now. I wish someone would dig up one of your dead relatives and make fun of you like that, Thats so low.
Notice that I wrote that before his untimely death... Sorry.. But ha, It's true. Too much coke. But man C'mon... I was just stating how did he and other dudes like Dexter gordon stay alive soo long compared to the others.. Like Joe Henderson. I worship Freddie's playing and I have done nothing but transcribe and listen to his recordings..I bet you haven't. You are all just trying to find someone to put down. I don't care. I hate the era we are growing up in. Why can't we just do what they did..
If you really wrote that before he died, then I can understand what youre sayin. BUT dont tell me I dont transcribe the cats I love to emulate the most. I transcribe bari sax players more than anything since im a bass trombonist and dont love the typical trombone soloist too much. I just want you to respect the greats the way I do. But i guess you were just trying to be funny and it happened to be at a bad time. No foul. It happens to everybody. Do you play trumpet?
i really don't understand how the crowd could be so unemotional to that... i'd fall to my fuckin' knees hearing him play this solo... fuckin' awesome!!!!! RIP champion
rip Freddie. truly one of the giants. buddy bolden, pops, roy, diz, miles, fats, brownie, and freddie. i know there are more. it's not a competition, but you gotta mention freddie whenever you talk trumpet. thanks so much for all of the great music.
1971. Trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and his quintet, of tenor-saxophonist Junior Cook, pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Art Booth and drummer Louis Hayes; are joined by a chorus, a string orchestra, several reciters, an organist and a variety of processed sounds emanating from tapes.
The project was composed and realized by Ilhan Mimaroglu .
The topical and anti-war messages expressed in the music are marvellous: the abstract sounds will be enjoyed by the open minded
yeah man even i felt it!!,there was a feeling in there, walter davis felt it too, cause he was playing a mischeivous diminished riff that sparked that moment of magic!!!
!!!Super!!!!! Он просто бог!
