  • After I finished painting the helmet, I clear coated it with gloss clear spray. I spayed many thin coats over a couple days and then polished it. Hope you enjoyed the video.

  • @drewbrophy:dear drew.kindly elaborate hw u managed to get the glaze and shine on the helmet surface finally.coz as long as were designing the helmet, the finishing looked dull.bt at the end it had a shine.

  • @JS202 Sorry, man, I've never been on your forum. Don't know what you're talking about. There are guys out there painting in my style everywhere, I never give them a hard time. I'm bummed someone used my name to write that.

  • @drewbrophy - Well if I am mistaken I apologize, but the whole thing seems rather strange. You may want to keep an eye on it.

  • I'm looking at painting this ugly wakeboard helmet. What advice could you give me for the kind of paint to use and the clear coat? Waterbased probably wouldn't do it ya? Unless the clear coat had superman seamen mixed in to keep it from bleeding.

  • how did you make it look shiny after you painted it?

  • This is great stuff!!!!!

  • this guy know what is do!i love it!

  • tried using krylon clear coat seemed to sot give it as much shine any tips on wat i can do to get a better shine out of the art i do ?

  • tried using krylon clear coat seemed to sot give it as much shine any tips on wat i can do to get a better shine out of the art i do ?

  • That looks amazing!

  • DUDE! you are fucking awesome love your work :D

  • Hey Drew. Have you tried using the clear coats like SEM, or 5 Star rather than Krylon? Seems they'd be more durable and offer better shine.

    Thanks

  • freaking awesome unbelievable

  • im just beginning to paint easy designs and experimenting with painters tape on longboards with spraypaint for a couple bucks. im thinking about getting some paint pens like these cuz i would like to do more detailed stuff. is there a good brand i should use and what should i start out on?

    great helmet btw!

  • @scawty0118 Use Uni Posca pens they are waterbased but blend great, Have fun.

  • Sick design!

  • holy shit thats awesome

  • totalmente diferente ,demais

  • how did you get that glossy shine finish and what paints are you using?

  • Hey Drew, can anybody tell me what camera was used in that video?

  • Those paint fumes don't give you a headache?

  • I thought you had to paint these with airbrush, I guess I have a lot to learn.

  • You're from San Clamente I think Ive passed your shop a few times while I visited some family there.

  • that chick has a nice arse :D hahaha

  • Sharpie vs Posca? Which would you recommend as the best? Or what is the main difference? I'd love to know - Thanks!

  • chick needs a tramp stamp on he lower back

  • I heard painting can damage the structural integrity of the helmet, how can I prevent this and can you tell me how to prep the helmet for paint

  • this is so sick man you did a phenomenal job.

  • You mean you used a Krylon pen for the clear coat, or a krylon can? Im not sure what a 'fat tip' is.

  • its a pen with a long or tip(the bit you write with)

  • What for sharpe is it on 0:53 ???

  • I use it to blend into the light blue.

  • Nice work man.

where can i buy these sort of pens?

eny site i culd order from cuz i live in Finland.

  • order from drewbrophy . com - they ship overseas

  • nice work,I was thinking about painting a japanese symbol on the forehead of the helmet. Will it turn out right if I just prime and paint that area of the helmet?

  • You still have to polish it, and the fat tip is key to getting an even coat. Montana Gold makes a gold tip that is great. I use polyurethane on my nicer projects, when people want to pay more.

  • Wow, Krylon on the helmet. I would have guessed something different. Thats cool! (and cost efficient!)

    Thanks for the reply.

    John

  • One other quick question... How many markers did you use for one helmet. if you used 5 colors, would you use up all of the marker (maybe use 2-3 each color) for a job the size of this helmet. Or does these markers last quite a bit more than one per job?

In other words, how much paint do you get out of (lets say) the medium tips?

ps. I just bought your DVD. Looking forward to it!

  • The clear is Krylon with a fat tip, The pens last for a long time, I never could use a full pen on one job, yellow and light blue are the colors I go through the quickest. Good Luck Life is Good Drew

  • @drewbrophy , I was wondering; on your website where you have the instructions for preping the helmet for painting, is that the same process to take for stock helmets that have that reflective vinyl on it? do i have to strip that vinyl layer or just sand down the gloss then prime?

  • Hey Drew, I am buying your DVD this month. I did surfboards about 15 years ago and you inspired me then and once again, you inspired me now.

Question: We are doing some helmets for some friends. What did you use as a clear coat (what brand?). Do you know how well it held up over a bit of time?

  • Hi Drew, I just bought your DVD but couldn't figure out what is the best way to clean the paint. Would you help me out? Thank you.

  • did you have to seal/coat it after words? im looking to paint a friend's helmet with sharpie paint pens. i think their oil based. is this ok?

  • no you want water based and yea you clear coat it.

  • hi! could someone tell me what's the name of the song¿?

  • hey, err what pens are you using ?!

  • where did you buy the plain white helmet? I purchased one of your DVD's and i am excited to start painting! Is there a place I can buy them cheap? Thanks!

  • your better off starting with an old used helmet first, sand all the clear off, mask up the helmet and then spray with primer.once the the primer sets its best to rub back with 1200 wet/dry paper. this will give you grey/white smooth surface to then ad your graphics to.

  • thanks for buying my DVD! I hope it answered all your questions. The helmet - some girl brought it to me to paint. I didn't buy it....

  • you have real talent, good job man.

  • why is she kissing the guy in the blue jacket. she should be kissing the guy who made the helmet. lol.check out my cbr rr

  • Is it ground painting with some color before? and then witch color?

  • what kind of paint pens are those? Also, did you have to spray on a fixative after you were done?

  • they are just sharpie permanent markers
