He was only 24 years old when he acted in this role. It was a very mature performance for someone his age. A very deep character, he portrayed the neurotic, megalomanic, inadequate nature of Commodus with great precision and natural flair.

This is what makes Joaquin a talent above most other actors.

Russell Crowe was perfect though as General Maximus.

Yes, I agree with you. It should have been Joaquin Phoenix by far. There was no comparison. His acting ability alone was by far the hardest. His character was so full of hate. Joaquin did such a magnificent acting role with that character it was unbelievable. What hurts the most, is that he never received any gratitude for the demanding and hated character. THE REAL JOAQUIN PHOENIX IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PERSON INSIDE AND OUT.

totally I know its a cliche to say but his lips imperfection just makes him all the more gorgeous.....also check out the documetary he made on a tribe in the Rainforest....Yawa i think. Theres a feature in this months Marie Claire, also there showing Walk te line and Buffalo Soldiers, one after teh otehr, i ha ethm both on DVD but its just better onTelly!!!.....thats british channel 4 and british Marie Claire duno of you get them in Canada??

Exactly...omg yea Ive seen parts of the documentary hes done in the rainforest with the Yawanatribe tribe....looks like Im going to hav to buy an issue of Marie Claire lol ;) oooo and It looks like Im gonna hav to check my local listings for those movies but for sure I kno wat u mean its always a treat to watch one of Joaquins movies on the telly lol but I actually do hav Walk the Line but I dont hav Buffalo Soldiers on DVD but Ill check for them both lol ;) its worth it to watch Joaquin =) xo
