You guys are all missing the point. The original by Celeste Holm is so effective because she doesn't do anything until she gets to the parts of the tune that refer to suppressing her urges and it's like she can't help it, she starts to move. Look at the end where she says '......I have a funny feeling that I won' She can't suppress the movement that seems to come naturally. It's actually brilliant.
@savasahottie5 Rodgers & Hammerstein musical "Oklahoma!" More Adoani number "and say No is." Studio Shot by 1998 London Cast version. Seats - are synthesized.
Im Doing this play for school ! Though Im not playing Ado Annie.... Im actually playing Laurey ! :D Either way I love this musical. Hope I can actually do a good job(:
This version is all wrong. I understand this is a stage production in a large theater. But this is horribly oversung, too broadly acted, and the accent is all wrong. Gloria Grahame's version in the 1955 movie is far more appropriate to the character. I can't understand why people prefer this
@DFDalton1962 Because Gloria Grahame puts no emotion into it, and her voice sounds awful. Vicky may overact, but I'd rather someone overacted than not at all. And I love her voice.
Nah! Not gettin' all you 1955 haters (lol..kidding). Gloria offered a very credible interpretation of Annie...and it was consistent with the character in the rest of the movie. It's just different. I prefer it. :-)
I prefered Gloria Grahame because she was genuinely funny in the role and in her numbers, she nailed the accent, she looked great and she was...Gloria Grahame! But I can say nothing bad about this historic London Production. If it were still playing with the original cast, I would try to fly there tomorrow to see it!
@Hijodelaisla I think if you were 100 feet away in the audience rather than in a camera zoomed in to close-up, you'd be more appreciative of her over-the-top (read: actually visible) facial changes.
Ado Annie in this production is just soooo funny! Much better than Gloria Grahams in the movie Okalhoma. This Ado Annie is very animated and I live her chuckle. Really a fun character to play. And this Ado Annie is soooo adorable! Thanks for posting this
Only recently discovered this film version, and her part as Ado Annie is truly marvelous. How i would love to be cast in this role in our local production of Oklahoma..
@Dollypig She also implied that she's a virgin when she was speaking about Ali, that he wanted to spend the night with her, and that meant that he wanted to marry her.
i was Ado Annie and this musical! i love the character of Ado Annie shes so fun!! i love this ado annie!!! :) shes the best! i was pretty good at Ado Annie too!
I have also spoken to people who queued up for over a block to try and get 'left over' tickets... here is a bit of trivia.... it was John Travolta's wife who saw the show with a friend when visiting England who told her husband about this amazing young man named Hugh Jackman. Travolta then became interested / a friend and then opened all the doors for Hugh in America.
They filmed it, then filmed an audience later, and added them in. It looks live, but it wasn't (Which explains why there's no laughter or applause or anything from the audience until a scene is over.)
@OohcoolProductions thts a movie and this a broadway show and there is a big difference the annie from the film is an actor and this a professional singer and there are many differences in the movie and the broadway show
@katguid2005 Still. The actress who played her in the film had a tin ear and was very dull to watch. There really is no way around that, film or show.
@JeffyJeffjeffm31191 ik shes terrible! Shes tone deaf, i heard they fed almost EVERY note to her and her upper lip was paralized... what were they thinking?!
@JeffyJeffjeffm31191 I agree! It also seems to me that - I know this is mean - that the lady who plays Ado Annie in the movie isn't pretty enough. She's supposed to be super hot. It doesn't make sense for all of the guys to be all over the lady in the movie.
In Nunn's production (this one), Laurie was portrayed as a semi-rebellious tomboy. The first time she's in a dress is at the end of Act One, during "Out of My Dreams". A choice that really worked in this production.

Or is it because that Gloria girl's singing made you deaf?
